No fee if you spend over $1000 per year in your Commonwealth Bank account too. Good deal op, will help pay for my student flights next year!

    • By the way: http://www.studentflights.com.au/blackmarket would be the one to go with. Cheap as hell.

Probably even factoring in the $200 discount…certainly assuming it's Europe.

Always check adioso.com for their best options as well before you commit.

Also, if there's a negligible difference between booking through a site like kayak or expedia and the airline itself, book direct with the airline. makes it WAY easier to organise changes, add luggage etc.

  • So what can one do with a $200 Flight Centre Gift Card without incurring any additional expenses?

    • +3

Return flight Sydney Brisbane is about $200

  • +2

So it seems existing customers could potentially get this deal by opening a 2nd CC?

    • Yeah that would be awesome!

    • Yep, I've taken advantage of CBA offers to new card holders by opening up a second card before.

  • Is there a minimum spend at Flight Centre?

  • +17

$200 at flight centre would give me roasted peanuts…

  • +1

Any issue signing up for the card and cancelling after you receive the gift card?

    • Yes, can anyone confirm…

      • +3

An extra entry on your credit file.

        • Yeah, definitely not worth it for $200.

    • +2

yes, as someone who used to work as a mortgage broker i can tell you a thing or two about credit history profiling, if you apply for lots of credit cards in a short period of time it doesn't look good because it appears you may be in debt or unable to manage your expenses, same goes for applying for credit/loans and being rejected, if you get a 'no' wait until your history clears which can be up to 5 years and try again

      • There should be a disclaimer on all credit and loan-related deals on OB reminding people of this.

  • Mmmmm i'm planning on booking a holiday very soon (for late jan).

Not sure how quickly this will arrive.

However being a student this is a brilliant deal.

Thanks OP for posting. Not sure if I should apply though as its another dent on the credit report. I personally would value the ANZ QF50k more if that deal was to come up again(or similar).

    • What do you mean by a dent on your credit report? Surely if you paid it off in time, there shouldn't be any problem? I've never owned a credit card so not quite understanding

      • Each credit application is recorded on your report. Enough of them and it will act disfavorably on future applications.

    • I don't know how bad credit affects you, but I can tell you this: my partner and I just got a pre-approval for our mortgage. Neither of us have any form of a credit history…I don't think they are overly important this day-in-age when you can prove you can save your money so easily.

      • Having no history is probably the reason why you got approved. Australia has only just moved on to positive reporting, most of the banks haven't really properly implemented it yet and are still basing lending decisions off negative reporting.

        • I spoke to the mortgage consultant at Commonwealth about it - she seemed to be under the impression that they were not overly important if you can prove that as long as your in-going and out-going money is within a reasonably comfortable range for a reasonable period of time (say a 75-25% split for a couple of years), you show yourself to be reliable for a loan.

  • I never owned a credit card ( only debit card) so as long as I pay on time i won't ve any issue ? (Subcharge?)

    • Correct: pay in full on time and you're safe

      • As a follow-up - can it just directly be taken out of your account at the end of the month so it is essentially a post-paid debit card with an overdraft?

        • Talk about over complicating it.

You've just described every credit card out there :)

All credit cards I've seen so far let you set up direct debit directly from a bank account which would be taken out on the due date automatically.

Really? I didn't realise this was a common feature. Does 28 degrees card offer this?

          EDIT :

Yes 28 degrees card does support this. Just fill in this form :
          http://assets.gecapital.com.au/forms/cards/direct-debit-requ…

        • @Shadowsfury:

I just don't understand the appeal of credit cards in general…it's like a debit card…which can get you into financial hardship.

  • Need to get this, good offer

Thanks Op, I'll get the low rate card and cancel my low rate gold card i got when they had a $100 cashback deal :D

    Declined, that's frustrating..

  • Applied and got accepted.
Now to await the rewards :) Thanks OP

  • +1

Conditionally approved >__< fingers crossed! Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP. I applied and got approved.. Like a Boss!

  • +1

$200, isn;t that the agent's commission fee for Flight Center?

  • Declined :(

  • What if you are already with CBA and have a credit card with them; can you apply for a second and be eligible?

    i.e:
"•Business, Corporate and all existing credit card accounts are not eligible for the offer."
Does this mean existing cards are not eligible or existing customers applying for new cards are not eligible?
    I’m guessing the later.

I got approved! First credit card eva, yayyyy!

    • As simple as one transaction.

  • +1

Hey guys, I called commonwealth up to double check the validity of this deal, and I was informed that it's actually an old offer which expired in April. Can anybody confirm that they've actually received the voucher, and not just another credit card?
