Sennheiser HD598 $205.92 (Incl. Delivery) Brown/Cream @ OO.com.au

160

Long time Ozbargainer but first time poster so correct me in places where wrong.
Been heaps of headphones/earphones posts lately, so here's another one =D
Amazon us is currently for USD 181 without shipping. Lowest price recorded according to camelcamelcamel is USD 171. Would have to wait for longer shipping times as well.
eGlobalDigital's price is AUD 217 but I think its greymarket stock?
There are other 50% off RRP headphones such as:
Sony MDR-RBT1
Sony DR-BT200B
Sony MDR-NC200
However since I've been using Sennheiser my whole life can't vouch for their sound quality. Just putting it out there that they are 50% off RRP.

Got one of em' Amazing headphone !! It's an Open end, but if you are after a pair to enjoy quality sound. Get it !! Also pair them up with headphone Amp…. you will be changing the Game !!

    • Agree with above. If you are into quality live sound with big soundstage this type of headphone really opens things up, especially coupled with a headphone amp.
      OP, great 1st post. Thanks

  • I've used these, they're awesome, great sound and comfort and look great too! If only I hadn't bought those Parrot Ziks a few weeks back… (They look cool and are noise cancelling and Bluetooth but aren't as comfortable as these ones.)

  • Spend an extra $100 for the hd650.

Careful, that requires a good headphone amp to power it while this does not.

      • Headphones, I have the older 595s, what headphone amp would you recommend for it?

    • they are completely different headphones. i had both. although i sold HD598, i still love them.

      btw, the price is ok.

    • I'd also love to know where I can get HD650s for 305 aud

    • -@bjonbjonbjon Not everybody has such a big budget. There will always be a better ( much more expensive model ), especially for audiophiles. I can speak for personal experience as I used to spend a lot on good gear. Sound, like food and drink is very relative to the individuals personal experiences.

    • i found the hd650 to be too muddy/dark. The 600 and 598 imo were better, but I prefer neutrality above all else so ymmv.

      • Dark, perhaps (more like warm), but the HD650s are definitely not muddy. What are you amping them with? What source?

        • They were on some snobby chord gear at a shop. Chordette i think, using other chord gear well worth over 2 grand each, source was I'm guessing cd rips ota, they did have some ultra high bitrate stuff straight from the studio but i didn't know nor like the instrumental, so I didn't judge based on it.

Didn't help that i was testing the hd800 and the t1 aswell on that same set up, so it really made the 650 slow and muddy. I still think the 600 was better as it had less bass/dark tone to it.

Had I not gone with the T1, I would've gotten the hd600 over the hd800/650

Don't forget the 3.6% cashback from Cashrewards!.

Great headphones, although imo the plastic feels a little bit cheap. Doesn't require an amp to run well (but it won't hurt if you already have an amp)

  • I have a set of these to run with my stereo and love them, very comfortable and the sound is awesome.
Can't vouch for their portable use in terms of an amp as never tried
