"Feel at Home" Limitations

*Unlimited Data is capped at 25GB when using it in the 16 countries
*You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) outside of the UK.
*Three restricts your ability to use your data allowance for file-sharing (like peer to peer download services) and using certain sites to download or share large files.
*You should be able to stream and connect to VPNs, but you'll find this is slower and the quality won't be as good as it is in the UK. For example, Three doesn't recommend streaming TV programmes and films.
*Other Add-ons that include video or audio content (such as TV, music or games) can’t be used either when you’re in a Feel At Home destination.

  • Your link says it includes Australia.

So can we get this and get unlimited data in Australia for 30 days ?

    • Hi Jv

Yes one of the "Feel at Home" countries is Australia. The sim card does come with Unlimited Data in the UK - however, the data is capped at 25GB in the 16 "Feel at Home" countries (as noted in the "Feel at Home" information page).

      • Hi Rep,

Does this mean using this sim I have up to 25GB of included data per month and can renew for up to 3 months in Australia?

        • Hi Rillen

Yes that is correct. Every month when you refill your Feel at Home data will reset, hence you will get 25GB every month

  • Hmm, references to T-Mobile, didn't pay attention did we?

This price is pretty much the standard price for these sims ($26-27), so not really a deal except they are already in Oz.

Note the data isn't all you can eat outside the UK; tethering isn't allowed and data is restricted to 25GB in a month. Mind, the words 'limit' and '25GB' create a hollow laugh in Australia - land of the 1GB per month data allowance …

Also you can only have 3 months in a 12 month period without use in the UK - eg its for UK holiday makers.

    • Hi sane

Thank you for noting that. We have updated the information.

We realise the price isn't significantly lower. However if you are traveling to those 16 countries, it is really handy - especially if it is mobile data that travelers are after. Also this sim card wouldn't be available to purchase if someone's first stop was say France or Italy.

    • Hi sane, where did you find those restrictions, do you have a link? Until I saw your post (no tethering) I considered ditching my slow ADSL line (and Telstra home line) and just using this one instead…
Which network are they using here, Vodafail?

  • +2

A reminder of what an utter ripoff mobile data is here

    • Hi Merlict

Yes, Australian Telcos have a long way to go to be price competitive with other countries such as USA or UK. However in saying that - you should see the mobile data prices they charge in Canada :|

      • Simcorner what does it mean on your site with add~ons that dont work include tv,music and video. Can i still watch youtube etc?

        • Hi KiTau,

This is noted on Three's website. Three in the UK have Add-On features that you have to pay for that allow you to stream TV shows, music etc which cannot be accessed in the roaming destinations. This is irrelevant to Australian travelers as no one will have these add-ons.

YouTube is not blocked however as mentioned by Three and noted in the description above:

"*You should be able to stream and connect to VPNs, but you'll find this is slower and the quality won't be as good as it is in the UK. For example, Three doesn't recommend streaming TV programmes and films."

  • can someone advise if this is a good deal? planning to use when O/S or are there better sims for short stay in UK/France/Ireland

  • Heading to the UK and travelling around a bunch of countries there too soon, looking for the best option to cover me through the trip.

Reading this makes me a bit worried.

    http://prepaidwithdata.wikia.com/wiki/United_Kingdom

3 (Three) has the smallest network of all operators in the UK but the most agressive pricing. Three is a 3G and 4G network only with no fall back to 2G. As this is not so important for data, the text and call coverage is much worse on the countryside compared to the three big ones.

    • +1

In general it's not much of an issue. Most of the places without coverage are places you don't want to go and all carriers have issues in particular locations.

The thing you do have to realise however is that 4G coverage, on all networks, is poor. The UK is behind Oz in rollout, and the biggest ("EE") overprice almost as much as Telstra.

Three (with an All in one package) is the best bet for a traveller, particularly if you are going to multiple countries.

As this is primarily a UK prepaid Sim Card, perhaps the rep should provide a link showing how much this typically costs in the UK.

Let's use this to determine whether this is a bargain or not.

Previously, for most countries I've visited in the last few years, I've found it easy enough to pick up a local SIM after I've arrived, and don't believe I've suffered a financial penalty as compared to buying that local SIM here.

In the UK it's even possible to buy local SIMs in some airports on arrival, reducing inconvenience. Probably not available to activate at the arrival gate, however, if one needs it that soon.

(even though it says no tethering) I'd love to know what would happen if I stuck it in a pocket wifi in australia.

How does a provider block tethering? Does a smartphone somehow report to the provider when a tethering session is initiated?

    • Hi OzBen,

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I would think so.

In the USA, customers had to pay their provider for tethering access otherwise it was blocked.

  • Pretty slack here In Philippines i can get unlimited data on my phone for $25 a month.

  • In addition, you get 300 UK minutes which can be used in those 16 countries.
+ what needs to happen to bring my own number with me _for convenience sakes?
+ best if those UK 300 mins can be recognised outbound as from my number.

    • Hi Daver,

Unforunately, you will not be able to bring your own number. It's a UK prepaid sim with a UK phone number already attached and will not be able to bring an Australian Phone number on to it.

  • @SimCorner Will this activate outside of the UK? About to head on a trip around Europe that doesn't stop in the UK at all. Also, does the 300 minutes include calls to another Three roaming sim?

    • +1

      Hi jsjc,

Yes this will activate in any of the roaming destinations listed. Remember you will need to have Data Roaming ON when using this sim outside the UK to access the data.

Yes, you will be able to call any other person who has a Three UK sim in any one of the roaming destinations. You will actually be able to call most UK phone numbers from these Roaming destinations however this is not particulary relevant to travelers from Australia other than the fact if you were traveling with other people and you all had one then you could call each other using the 300 minutes.
