  • I'm getting $30 for Shipping, must only be some parts of WA, I'm North Metro, usually I get the cheapest shipping rates based on my location, so I'm not considered Rural/Remote

    • Yeah I'm in Perth and it says $12

      • Hmm maybe you live closer to the City or something, lucky.

        • Still a good deal for tv with dvd $129 delivered

    • yep i am getting $30 shipping to Melbourne metro areas too

  • $30 shipping to metro sydney ew…

was this the same deal that was posted last time?

    • +1

nah that was a 42" with no dvd in built $190 delivered. That was a nice deal.

  • +1

    FAQ:
Q: How much does shipping cost? Is there a minimum purchase amount required to receive free shipping?
A: Delivery is free for all TV orders within Metropolitan areas (Australia ONLY).

    • Not free for me and im in metro area but $12 isn't much to ship a TV

      • I'll give them a call tommorrow to see what's going on. Maybe I can pickup from Braeside

        • Yeah they might credit you the money for shipping if the site says free metro delivery :)

        • I didn't bring that into it, but they are refunding the shipping and letting me pick up.

  • +8

very tempted by the 51 incher. great price. however i'll probably just mmm and aahh about it until it sells out.

    • +1

      lol, that's exactly what I did with the previous Refurbished 42” Soniq 1920x1080 LCD (L42V12A), $159.01 (+ $30 Shipping) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165427

and this ones a tad more expensive, sooo mmmmmm ehhh maybe….

      • +1

i'm kinda in the market one for one. have a 720p 32" and it was all fine, up until i bought myself a ps4… now i want bigger and full HD. first world problems.

        • lol
I wanna upgrade too from an old school 41 inch "HD" with no HDMI input, just RBG
Then I can use my $34 chromecast and raspberry pi. Truly 1st world/ozbargain problems :P

edit: also wonder hows the image quality of these plasmas?

    • Buy it, it's a great price and good warranty if there are any problems

  • -8

SONIC = CRAP pow pooooww ! I mean utter CRAP ! Get ready to say bye bye to $349 after 14 months. I been down that road, my brother, my mates… why do we keep on buying utter rubbish and never complain about it .. Come on people ! we need a technology revolution, make it good, make it last, there we have the best way to sort out one of our environMENTAL issues and sort out our thin wallets at the same time !
Example, If I added up how much money I have spent on crap phones or TV's over the last 15 years and compare that to someone that bought 3 decent quality phones ! or one Decent TV , makes sense.

    • +2

Not expecting high quality with all the bells and whistles but more value at a fraction of the price for the size and will hopefully last a number of years.
You make a point if it doesn't last long (eg 5 years).
But for technology thats 15 years old… hahahah, thats soo funny you should do stand up comedy :P
I got a quality plasma (high end at the time) from my uncle that's about 10 years old with no HDMI so I'm pretty sure thats destined for the trash soon even though its going strong and super inefficient.

    • +4

My extended family have had between 3-6 Soniq TVs between us for three years now and all have been great! The last few we bought came with two year warranties without having to pay any extra.

    • +3

My family has had about 3 as well and they have all been perfect. Lasted longer than any other tv brand we've had and better looking than any of my friend's tvs I've seen

    • +8

Adding to the good Soniq experience crowd - 3 in my family too. All 3 still work and they're 5-8 years old.

      • WOw so much love for Soniq - I had no idea

        • Not love, just reality. Had 3 of their TVs. They still work. shrug

  • thanks..

  • -4

A worry there is so much stock that has been returned faulty.

Someone who works at JB told me it's a daily routine, dealing with this brand.

On paper, the price and product looks great but it sounds like more trouble than the savings are worth unfortunately.

    • -1

The JB guy was probably trying to flog you a Samsung or an LG, where they get higher commissions for each sale. They use SONIQ as bait and once you're in the store they will try to sell you something else…don't fall for it.

  • +1

Have ordered a 51", funny my shipping is $12 to Newcastle (nice to get a break against some of the usual extra shipping charges!)

    • Kool same as mine $12 :)

  • Assuming this is the P51E12A -
Speaker Output Power: 8Wx2 Power Consumption: Normal Use (Maximum): 280W (typical 250W).

    • Yes that's the model of the plasma

  • Does it have a digital tuner? Looked at the manual and it doesn't seem to mention it?

  • I dont know much about plasma tvs but how would this be for gaming (ps3 and 4) and to watch movies through a chromecast ?

    • should be fine for both

  • +1

Not sure why you guys negged my comment above. I simply said it's concerning to see so much stock that has come back faulty.

No need to take offense just because you want to buy something that someone else doesn't.

And for the record, the JB employee wasn't telling me about the massive faulty rates so I'd buy something more expensive. It was a friend saying he wishes they'd stop selling the brand because the returns take up too much of their day.

  • Wondering which model is it? (Soniq 55" FHD LED 3D Smart TV Refurbished $599)

    • E55SI2A Is the model num :)

      • How does it compare to DSE Saiki? Any deal coming soon for 55" Seiki?

  • $349 for a 51" I'm not expecting much. Lot's of backlight bleed? Dragging picture?

  • I'm looking for a cheap ~32", but tried both Mooroolbark VIC and Footscray VIC and it's $30 shipping either way. Cheapest model would be $179 which isn't bad, but not spectacular for a low end 32".

  • Your title says FHD but specs say otherwise?
Also can't seem to see if it has its own tuner (although I presume it does).
Might be finally time to put away the ol' 26" Grundig CRT and upgrade to one of these new-fangled big screens.
Farewell, old friend. You have served me well.

    • +1

The specs in the OP are wrong - according to the manual for the 51" in the link, it is full HD (1920x1080).

      • Awesome thanks for the info, I ordered it. Thanks also OP for the heads-up.

  • purchased.. thanks op

  • +1

So is it full HD or not?

    • +1

The specs in the OP are wrong - according to the manual for the 51" in the link, it is full HD (1920x1080).

      • Thanks for the confirmation…Resolution is FullHD (1920 x 1080).

I'm in Melbourne and picking it up on Monday from Braeside…FREE

        • Good to hear - hoping mine ships soon, looking forward to it!

  • when you get your TVS Guys please come back to comment on how they are :)

  • Is there anywhere I can find out the size dimensions for the 51 inch?

    • there should be a manual in the link

      • Thanks. Had a better look at it and found it on p33 :)

  • Got my 51" delivered to Taringa Brisbane for $12. Do they send a shipping confirmation?

    • $12?…that's cheap as. They're quirky with their shipping cost…it's like pot luck.

They do send shipping confirmation…includes tracking number.

If you are in Melbourne, pick it up for FREE from Braeside. Make the purchase online, call them up to arrange pick up and they will refund the initial shipping cost you paid online.

  • Just received the tracking number today for my order, shipped through Toll.

    • Anyone else got a tracking number yet? Or even taken delivery. Websites FAQ says ships in 24hrs and 2 to 3 days to qld. I orderered it really late on Thursday… Getting antsy, wanna watch walking dead but waiting for plasma goodness.

  • Be warned. The 51 inch TV deal is no longer available, and likely hasn't been for a number of days. Just got this email (I ordered my TV on 24th):

    Hi,

Thank you for your order. Unfortunately, we have sold out this model. There was an issue with the site, that was why you could place an order.

We don’t have any more refurbished 51” TVs, here are some alternative models:

    T2E46Z10A Refurbished 46" FHD LED iDTV 100Hz $429 + $30 shipping

    T2E46Z11A Refurbished 46" FHD LED TV 50Hz $429 + $30 shipping

    T2E48S12A Refurbished 48" FHD Smart LED TV $349 + $30 shipping

    T2E48W13A Refurbished 48" FHD LED LCD TV $379 + $30 shipping

If you are interested in one of the alternative models, please let me know. If not, could you please provide your credit card no and expiry date so I can arrange refund for you?

Not keen to purchase any of the models she's listed, and definitely not keen on sending my credit card details through via email - surely it's just a case of them automatically refunding?

    • :(

      Edit*
Erg, sorry, I just got my shipping confirmation, looks like they ran out sometime on Friday cause I placed my order close to midnight on Thursday.

  • Pretty pissed now.

    Recieved 2 emails at 3:07PM,

1st- Your order has been shipped.
    2nd- "Hi COR80,

Thank you for your order. Unfortunately we have sold out this model. There was an issue with our site, that was why you could place an order.

Could you please provide your credit card no and expiry date so I can arrange refund for you?

    Sorry about the inconvenient caused.
    Regards,
    Beatrice"

This was after recieving an email confirming my order at 1:48pm on Thurs 23/10.

Pretty half-assed effort from Soniq in my opinion.

    • What did the toll tracking thingy say?

      • I got an order number and a password number, and also an SKU number, with "Your order status is: Shipped".

I did not see a tracking number, but some of the email has been blocked by the work email filter.

The request "Could you please provide your credit card no and expiry date so I can arrange refund for you?" was particularly galling, especially after "the incovenient" caused.

Also, my online debit card was charged on 23/10, the money was taken off "pending" status and received by Soniq today.

        • I only got two emails, order confirmation on Thursday night and then shipping confirmation this afternoon.

There's a lot of HTML framing etc in the email I think.

          Your order Total: $ 361.00

          Your order status is: Shipped

          Tracking no: TWAF694xxx

          Tracking link: https://online.toll.com.au/trackandtrace/

Sorry dude, doesn't seem fair since you ordered well before me.

        • @jonathonsunshine:
Thanks mate, not for you to be sorry.

I would be interested to hear the locations of others who received the cancellation ie. whether they underestimated or are looking on saving money from the Perth/WA-based orders.

        • @COR80: I'm Adelaide based - seems to me to be a simple website error.

        • @adelee: I don't really buy that, seeing as my order was paid for and confirmed before others, who are still receiving what they paid for. If it is a "simple website error" why not rectify it by honouring purchases in the order they were received; they obviously have that information in the form of credit card payment records even if there was "a simple website error" on their own site.

Even better, a more trustworthy company would simply honour every order that they had accepted, processed and received money for, treating it as a learning experience and not losing goodwill.

Soniq is not a single-mum making perfumed soap in the kitchen to sell on Etsy, where "a simple website error" would be understandable and easily tolerated; it's a multinational business being run like a backyard operation.

Refusing to honour earlier orders while honouring later orders gives the appearance of cherry-picking, whether it be for transport or some other reason. (Some Perth buyers were quoted $12 shipping which seems well on the low side for a 35kg item going 3500-ish km's by road.)

It's not good enough for Soniq to cough up a dog's breakfast, grab as many orders as possible, then wave their hands helplessly in the air when it turns to sh*t.

Did I mention I'm not particularly happy with the dodgy behaviour of Soniq?

        • +1

@COR80: Fair enough, that does sound suspicious. Given the experience I had speaking with a rep on the phone today m(called to collect credit card details as I refused to pass them on via email), however, I wouldn't be surprised if the company was a single mum making soaps for Etsy! Very unprofessional, and no apology received at all.

        • @adelee: I have sent a few emails back and forth and seem to have had some success. The reason given seems plausible, but still the fact that it happened in the first place was not a good look for Soniq; apparently each order was allocated a TV, which was then retested. Some of those- ie. mine and yours for starters- were found to be faulty, and were not sent despite being ordered earlier than others.

The contact at Soniq has apologised and been polite throughout, and I feel a little bad for her that she is bearing the brunt of the customer dissatisfaction (assuming she had nothing to do with the haphazard process in which the TV's were dispatched).

Thus far it appears Soniq is in the process of rectifying the situation in my case, although I will actually wait till I receive the item, and the condition it is in, before confirming this.

  • The email from Soniq (specifically the request to email through credit card details) seems very unprofessional, and makes me uneasy. I've asked them to process a refund without this information - surely that's possible.

  • received our 51" Soniq TV by courier yesterday. When I helped the driver get the box out of the van I noticed that the TV was moving inside the box. I opened it up to check what was going on and found this:

    http://prntscr.com/515blm

Basically what they had done was put a few scraps of styro at the bottom of the box, and nothing on the sides or the top of the TV itself. Result was that the whole panel had no protection and was free-roaming inside the carton.

I pulled the panel out of the box and this was the condition it arrived in:

    http://prntscr.com/515ca2

This is their idea of appropriate packaging for a 51" LCD panel:

    http://prntscr.com/515cpy

Looks like a bunch of scraps of random packing from the floor of the warehouse. Not good enough.

I rang them, and they agreed to send a replacement. It will probably take about a week to get here.

Seriously, though, what sort of idiots pack a TV like that to send by interstate freight?

Won't be buying any more TVs from them, thats for sure. Very disappointing experience.

    • LOL!

    • Geez they are having a shocking run, all self-inflicted unfortunately. Feel a bit bad for the lady who is having to deal with all the mess emails/calls etc, but seriously what were they expecting when they put this little operation together, that we're all mugs?

  • Mine has a big crack running from top to bottom and doesn't seem to want to turn on the screen. I hear the start up sound but no picture.

  • Just opened the box at work. Has big cracks in the glass. And the call centre is closed.

    • This is depressing… I don't have any ill will towards Soniq, I just want my TV…

  • I picked up from Braeside. Got home, packing materials was quite on the light side but luckily I had a smooth ride home. No cracks on the screen, just a scuff on the bezel - acceptable for a refurb. Quite a large patch of dead pixels in a 10mm x 30mm area on the edge - not acceptable. Hopefully they have enough parts on hand to be able to fix it, really keen on the TV it is great otherwise. I think that we OzBargain'd them and they got quite rushed getting them ready and sending them out. I would have preferred if they delayed the order and put more time into checking the unit first and packing it better.

At least they have me a special code to do a factory reset… obviously that didn't work… but some other goodies in there like running a Burn in test which I'm doing now on the off-chance that the pixels will become unstuck. When you run the Burn in test, the dead pixels are plain as day and would have easily been picked up if they ran it before shipping.

  • Anyone else have any luck calling them on 1300 765 663? I called yesterday but it was outside their hours, this morning it doesn't even ring.

    • I have been emailing and have had them all answered within 24 hours. The content of the emails hasn't made me any happier, but they were answered.

      • Lol / Cry, After calling them all day and the phone not even ringing, not even engaged, just like a dead disconnect, the answering machine finally picked up to tell me I'm calling outside of office hours.

  • Wow… Now I'm kind of glad I just accepted the refund instead of fighting for a replacement product!

    • I'm also getting a refund, they said they would send a replacement, then get a call this morning about how it was cancelled… well they should have let me know when they cancelled it. Just bad communication.

      • Are we able to get a replacement under consumer protection laws? I really want the TV. even if it only lasts the 18 months…

  • +1

After some back-and forth emails when first discovering my paid-for order had been cancelled, I received my replacement order from Soniq on Friday, and am very happy with it.

Soniq did not handle the original orders well (which was my complaint, as my order was randomly cancelled), and "Beatrice" (at Soniq) bore the brunt of my unhappy correspondence, and no doubt many others as well.

Beatrice handled my dissatisfaction with complete professionalism at all times. She promised she would make amends, and certainly did so.

Much of the problem appeared to be in the warehouse, with staff inadequately packaging TV's for transportation. Beatrice expressed her own disappointment with news of this, did not try to excuse herself or the company, and simply rectified the problem.

After a bad start that did not seem to be any fault of her own, Beatrice turned a completely negative Soniq experience into a positive one; thankyou Beatrice.

    • What's the TV like? Black levels etc?

      • +1

I'm no expert. Can't see any dead pixels, but haven't run any tests either.
Looks a little grainy from a couple of feet away but really good as you sit at a more reasonable distance, and the blacks look good to my eyes.

Has a separate soundbar haven't hooked up yet, but am on days off tomorrow and looking forward to finally setting it up. I've long had an awesome Grundig 26" crt (no hdmi) and 360, but purchased a 2nd hand PS3 recently just to play "The Last of Us". It was only $90 but unfortunately was hdmi only, hence the excuse to finally upgrade to a proper big telly. Stoked to be playing "The Last of Us" for the first time soon, on a huge screen.
