I got the basic model (machine, 1ltr bottle 40L gas) for sale price of $49 in January 2014.
HN sell the 40L refills at $12.95
So bought this for the 60L gas bottle, the flavors and spare 1ltr bottle!
      Winning

      • Can I get you to get me one and post it to me!?

        Awesome deal.

        • Its heavy! Dicount would be void with ausposts rates

        • More than 3kg? :) Bummer.

        • +1

There are plenty in Melbourne Kmarts.

        • +2

@fluffyduff: Which ones? None at Richmond, Burwood, Chadstone!

        • +1

          @ozy: WTF is Dicount?
Thats what you get for posting while shopping..

        • +1

          @ozy: shut up you!

  • does this include the machine to make the drinks?

    • +1

      Yes

  • So is it $19.50 for the soda stream machine, gas bottle, bottle and the flavours?

    • Yes, updated description.

  • noob question - would it be cheaper to make softdrinks using this or simply it's more of a healthy alternative??

    • +5

It is neither more healthy nor it is cheaper. Calculating the cost of syrup and gas cylinder it cost roughly 90c to make 1L of Carbonated Softdrink with sodastream. You can get a 1.25 bottle of cola from ALdi for 89c. That is not even factoring in the cost of the Maker and your water bill.

There are still sugar and preservative in it and it doesn't even taste as good so it is definitely not healthier.

It is good if you want to buy it just to drink carbonated water or I mix it with cordial instead of sodastream syrup to make cheaper drinks.

      • +4

Having a Sodastream means less pollution by way of plastic bottles though. PET bottles are a huge pollution problem worldwide: http://www.cleanup.org.au/au/Whatelsewesupport/avoid-bottled…

        • @Davo93: Yeah, who gives a (profanity) about the environment, right?

How dare anyone take that into consideration, ever.

      • water bill

so like, a fifth of a cent per litre?

      • Actually it is healthier, obviously not entirely healthy but the ingredients are 1/3 of Coke/Pepsi

        http://www.sodastream.com.au/auretail/generalPage.aspx?pageI…

Once you get used to it its alright as long as you get the carbonation right. The sample packs don't taste as good as the retail packs due to the packaging material

        • +1

Its generally healthier because they use E950 sweetener etc

Why not get coke zero etc if you are ok with artificial sweeteners?

        • @samfisher5986: convenience factor & cheaper

        • +1

          @backslashio:

Sodastream isn't more convenient and while it is cheaper it doesn't taste as good.

    • +2

if you get into the ozbargain spirit, you can use normal cordial and hack it to fit a large co2 canister that is much cheaper to fill, then it could be cheap, especially if the kit is $19

    • +16

I have my SodaStream hooked up to a 2.6kg bottle of CO2 from KegKing

      http://www.kegking.com.au/gasbottlesandregulators.html

After the initial set up cost, you can make sodawater for about 4c/L.

Combine it with cheap syrups you can pickup during sales and cordial, it works out much cheaper (probably not for your health)

      • +4

        Err, why am I downvoted?

Hacking your sodastream is the best way to save money in the long term.

        Edit : thx :)

      • Target have 3 syrups for $12 ($4 each). These are the smaller bottles, and it's not as good as it used to be ($10 for 3), but if you have just bought one…

  • How much are new cylinders for these things from the future?

    • +12

      from the future

while you're there do you mind picking up a few things for me?

      • Yeah, I'm with M9! Could you please get me a Hoverboard and a winning lotto ticket? Cheers :)

    • I don't know Kmart prices but its $19 at big dubs

      • LINK? (Proof)

      • -1

        With the bonus syrups?

        • No I'm talking about the gas canisters

    • 20 changeover, I'm thinking to buy this so once gas runs out. i can do a quick swap over

      • There are 2 size canisters. (actually, i think they are the same size, just one has more gas)

  • +1

    can someone confirm other kmarts?

    • -1

    "Flavours" in Australia.

  • Spoke to 2 airheads at the Launceston store who instantly said no to having any…without going and checking, its a 30min drive each way so I'm not going to check myself.

  • being drinking soda water, purely soda water no flavor, for years and buying from coles and woolworths.

can anyone help me to clarify how this works? i buy this machine, put in tap water and what's next? how do i get the soda waterout of it?

please make me understand before i go and buy it…………

    • The gas cylinder carbonates the tap water (via the machine) and makes it soda water. Gas cylinders are similar to bbq gas (swap n go) and cost about $20 for exchange which will theoretically make you 60 litres of sodawater

  • You just then press down the button for a second or 2 and it carbonates the water…watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvjkDIbxcAY

      • Thank god for Israel to develop such a revolutionary product and so damn cheap

They invented… a Soda Fountain. Behold.

Something first revealed to the rest of the world world in the mid-1800s.

    • -3

The boycotts sort of don't work in anyone's favour: http://www.israellycool.com/2014/08/26/bds-victory-sees-500-…

  • +1

Wow, cheap as… but does this indicate the demise of the latest SodaStream marketing uptake I wonder? Seems like a very 'fashionable' device to me that's all ie. they were popular here in the 70s & 80s then died off big time. They redesigned the plastic housing and poured lots of cash into a new marketing campaign a few years back and off they go again… until they units break or the owners realise they're not what they expected or like me they just don't like the way the product tastes.

Makes you wonder how many broken or unwanted Sodastreams have contributed to landfill over the last few decades. Hmmm, ponderous, truly ponderous. I suppose the same can be said for a lot of trend fueled products (Thermomix for instance?). Not bagging, just provoking holistic thoughts on such matters.

    • +1

Not the demise, there's a new model in the upcoming myer catalogue (p40, the one with Jen Hawkins on the front - http://catalogues.myer.com.au/catalogue/myer-catalogue--summ…

      $115

    • +1

very, very valid argument. What's wrong with the taste?

      • not so much, it just doesn't taste as good as the well known brands. Except the orange & maybe lemonade, that's pretty much spot on with Sunkist

      • Can't put my finger on it… too 'sodary' but then too 'sugary' at the other end of the scale. I've had many people try to make me like it (Cola mainly) but I still haven't tasted anything that justifies the purchase of the system versus just buying pre-made softdrinks… even home-brand at 75c per 1.25L.

  • Innaloo Kmart is not accepting this deal. :(

    Thanks

  • Any kmarts around sydney accepting?

  • +2

Just call Chadstone in Melbourne. They have about 10 left in stock, but without the samples. ie it is only the soda stream with a gas bottle for $19.50. The girl also said, "There had been about 10 calls about this in the last 30 mins… so be quick if you want one!"

    • +1

There's still at least 18 there!

      • What time did you see them?

      • +1

@notreallyacat & @d123, Thank you, Chadstone is normally the last place I look as I always think it's the first to sell out. Can confirm there were 17 there at 9am this morning.

        • +1

So they'd probably only sold one since I was there. Glad you got one!

  • About 10 left at Shellharbour, NSW - although only the ones without the samples left and most of them have 40L bottles instead of 60L. Only the black scan through at $19.50, red models still full price at $69

  • Just bought this from Kmart in Belmont, WA.

They had the ones with the flavour sachets (red) at $69, and ones without flavour sachets (black) for $19.50. Mind you they were all on the $69 shelf, but I checked the price check machine and the sachetless ones were $19.50.

Still a bargain considering I needed a new cylinder, so picked up one. They had ~5-6 left.

  • My friend was at kmart, he texted me. I was 8 minutes late sigh

  • I just purchased one from Kmart Fairfield (NSW) The shelf price was $69, but they scanned at $19.50.
We got the one without the sample flavours, as when we checked the date on the sample pack, they expired in Jan 2013 (ewwww)

    • I didn't get the sample flavours.. Do I need to ask them?

      • If they expired Jan 2013, you'll probably find some in the rubbish bin.

        • :) I am trying to find out whether they (expired or not) are in the box or packed separately.. In the box that I got there is this machine and a 40L CO2 bottle..No 1L bottle and flavours.. Are they in a separate pack?

        • +1

          @quiteguy:

I don't know. I picked up one for me and two for other people. They all have the same bar code. The boxes look the same. Two of them have a 60L gas bottle, and one has a 40L gas bottle. They all have the 1L drink bottle but no flavour samples. I thought the bottle was missing in the 40L one, but it was in the area where the gas is installed in the soda stream. I doubt the flavours are in a separate pack.

I forgot to screw the water bottle on. I pressed the button and it blew off and soaked me. :(

        • +1

@quiteguy: all in the same pack.

        • +1

@quiteguy: The bottle is within the back. Freaked out that all 3 I'd bought didn't have it until I opened it! Not all packs have the samples.

Found that Big W sell the full-sized syrups cheaper than Kmart.

  • They had some at Redbank Plaza QLD. They sold out. I got one :) I didn't get any free samples in the box. It has a 60L gas bottle.

  • I checked a Kmart in WA. Similar machine has a shelf price of $39 but scans for $19.50. But no flavours. And the gas bottles attached to the pack all are very worn off from previous use and only 40l. Did not buy.

  • +2

Brunswick, Campbellfield and Airport West (all vic) stores have no stock left.

  • i normally buy sparkling/soda water in bulks at the local woolies/coles at $0.75/1.25L. I've pretty much replaced 50% of my outright fluid intake to sparkling water, may I ask if this is a more economical approach, with all the consumable canisters and all?

    • I say it is. The gas canisters are refilled so they are reused, and you're not emptying soda water bottles constantly, just using the same one over again. Is that what you mean?

  • +1

No clearance ones at Southland but plenty of $69 red ones.

    • Thanks for saving me a trip

  • +1

    EXP SEP 2014
still a few with and without Flavour Samples at bateau bay

  • I got only the machine and the CO2 bottle. Does the flavors and 1 liter bottle come in a separate package?

    • +2

Did you check inside where the gas cylinder normally would sit? They normally pack in there.

    • +1

Give the spare machine to a friend or give away on the forums

    • Stupid fat fingers gave you a + vote for this very wasteful attitude.

    • -2

Is this a joke, it is a figure of speech.

  • +3

Just Bought 2 from K Mart Joondalup WA they had loads on the shelf the 1lt bottle is in the body of the Machine

  • +3

Bought 2 from Queanbeyan (ACT), there was 4 left and all had 40L cylinders and not 60L.
All had a singe bottle however no flavours.

    Belconnen had none left.

    • Thanks for this. Saved me a trip.

    • Means a different deal then,
As this is all pre packaged in one box
