Hmm.. this is a good phone and price too.

would you guys reckon buying this or the redmi note 4g?

I'm with TeleChoice, so no 4G is needed.

    • -2

Guys tomorrow it will have 10% off as its Wednesday. DO NOT BUY until tomorrow

      • Is this a regular Wednesday thing with expansys?

        • -2

          yes it is

        • @shamid202: what time cos not showing like this atm

        • Hello! Just doing a little more searching online for the 10% off, I think the 10% off is just for 'Asia Clearance Items'. So not applicable in this case? Too late for me if it is! Paid total of $172 for the 16GB.

      • +3

Shamid, you are full of !@#%

    • +1

Depends on your needs for storage. The 16Gb has less than 12Gb usable space plus you should keep at least 10% free space to prevent sluggishness of the file system ie you're down to 10.4Gb, even less after installing Apps (my current list of installed apps take up 3.6Gb).
So if you like to load up your phone with music (like I do) 16Gb isn't really big enough.

    • ????

    • Who sells RedMi Note 4G in Australia ? What price ? Singapore price is $185aud,but for locals only.

I wonder how many toilets they've been used in?

    • +19

The mind boggles what goes on inside your head ;)

      • +7

        The investigation continues :-)

        • +2

I can only imagine a never ending episode of twin peaks within your cranial cavity :)

        • +3

@stemcell: We digress, but there's 9 new episodes due out in 2016…

      • Worst case scenario is best preparation

    • +1

I have a colleague who told me how he dropped his phone in a toilet once. A few months later he got a call which required my input, so he passed his phone to me.
Yes, it happens more often than you think. No refurb phone for me :)

      • +1

We really should assume the worst when it comes to other peoples phones. I rarely take a poop without bringing my iPad. Have i ever cleaned it? Lol, no, of course not.

In summary, don't use my iPad.

        • +14

          Your ipad or your bottom?

        • +6

you wipe your bottom with the iPad? is there a special App for that?

    • +1

      dirty cheap!

    • +3

      It's a phone, not a refurbished toothbrush.

  • +1

Is this a good price and has anyone on here bought a refurbished one from this site before and care to share?.

    • Cheapest ive seen 8gb one is on ebay for $119 but 8gb isnt enough to be of much use.

    • +3

I bought a refurbished Google nexus 7 tablet from them last time - I have been very happy with it -in fact it appeared just like the brand new one. Well, with refurbished stuff it remains a 'buy and wait to see' game

      • Me too. Just got mine yesterday, actually. Indistinguishable from the brand new versions. No scratches, no dents, etc. Top notch condition. BUY BUY BUY.

  • +7

Google have recently announced these should get Lollipop (Android 5) so these will have more life left in them.

    • +1

This guy sort of did a review on this phone, comparing it to modern phones.

Conclusion: the nexus 4 still stands on its own. The AmigoTips - The Perfect Smartphone

Maybe the article will will help others. Great phone.

  • +2

good price considering you can still get Android updates for it with Lollipop coming soon! :)

  • +1

Seeing this makes me worry about what sort of price I can fetch for my 16gb unit… :( I might keep it as a backup instead.

    • nexus devices start out cheap so not worth very much.

      • I checked ebay and used ones seem to sell for more.

        • +1

some people nhave no idea how much phones for go.
ive seen galaxy s3's being put on ebeya over $500 used.
someone people have no idea about prices and what price to put if they want theres to sell.

        • @holden93: theirs

        • These refurbished ones are second hand

        • @holden93: Exactly. And they seem really disappointed to be told/met with the realisation that people don't want to pay what the sellers want them to pay. They don't quite understand the old adage, "it's worth as much as someone is willing to pay".

        • +1

@alizzan: But I paid $4000 for my plasma 8 years ago and took good care of it so it must be worth at least $3000.

    • +1

Yeah you pretty much can't sell nexus phones. Mine became worthless after they dropped the price by $100 right before releasing the n5. It was worth about $200 used then, now about close to nothing. Definitely keeping for backup in lieu of selling for peanuts.

      • Hey mate there a used shop called webuy they buy used phones andother stuff they give 130 cash if you take it in to there shop ive sold a few to them some things they dont give much for like dvds lol

They had condition rateing thing a, b, c, c b3ing worst condition then dont take cracked screens.
        .

        • -6

          their

        • +1

          @McFly:

          Once was enough

        • Hopefully. (Didn't notice the timing.)
Still, can't be stingy when it comes to correcting… others!

      • Don't be silly leonheart1.

  • +6

Can't speak for refurbs in particular but I have a Nexus 4 and it's a good phone. Was planning on upgrading but the Nexus 6 is too big and not worth the price for me. Will be holding on to the N4 for at least another year, which I don't mind since it is getting the latest Android Lollipop update :)

    • +3

I liked my N4 (stolen) but replaced it with a 2nd gen moto g . For $140 I definitely would of just got another N4 . The N6 is a premo product priced accordingly . Couldn't have justified the price and not sure It simply wasn't too big anyway .
What I miss most is the quality feel/heft of the N4 . What I don't miss is the below average battery life , The moto's battery life is better but still not stellar .

      • I had a Nexus4 with crap battery life.
I turned off location reporting and i reckon it tripled the life.

    • I really wanted to get the N6 but they made the screen too big :(

  • +5

I've been using it since feb last year and I can tell you the battery life is so terrible. It's even worse than my 4.5 year old iphone 4. And if I browse chrome on 3G for like 15 minutes, the upper part near the camera lens gets really hot (normally around 35c but sometimes even more).
You will need to turn off 3g manually everytime you turn off the screen as it drains battery a lot.
Other than that it is a good phone in terms of size and design and especially for $150 it's a bargain

    • +1

      battery life…

      is what keeps me away.

      • had one for quite a while, battery is fine

    • Yeah N5 so much better.

    • +1

Another nexus 4 user here. Can confirm.

    • IPhone 4 had awesome battery life

It was iPhone 4s that was shitty

      • im comparing it to 4.5 year old iphone which barely lasts a day now

        • +4

Compare it to decade old phone 3310 then

        • +2

@astarman: was trying to show how poor the battery is. and only smartphone ive got is iphone4 so that's why i compared it to iphone 4

    • Can confirm the battery life is absolutely horrible. Great phone in it's day but yeah not worth buying now really.

    • BS. I think some people just got a dud battery. My wife had a N4 and never had a problem with the battery in the ~18 months she had it.

    • +3

totally agree, the battery life was really bad and the phone used to switch off because of overheating when mounted on the car windshield because it is black and covered with glass on the back

    • +3

Another N4 user here. Always have to bring a powerbank or turn off sync when I'm outside & don't have access to charger for a day :(

      • Time for a new phone scotty? I was waiting for the Nexus 6 but too big :(

  • Would be a no brainer if it was free shipping :(

  • +2

Well I've bought a 16gb one, if I don't like it I'll just pop it on gumtree for the same amount I just paid, none near me going for less than $200.

Thanks for the post SmartJo :)

    • +1

HAHA i bought it and if I hate it, I can trade it in for $150 cash at cex!!! LOLOLOL. should be a decent upgrade from my kitkat S2 (this was only getting 2 hrs screen time)

    • Cheers!!stemcell

  • +1

For a bit more I would get the Motorola G 2014 version

    • Which has half the ram and far less xda activity.

  • -2
    • +4

      That's a tablet!.

      • Opps! my bad.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just ordered one :D

  • +1

Lillipop to start rolling out OTA on Nov. 3 for Nexus 4, 5, 7(both models) & 10

  • +2

only 3 months warranty a concern for a refurb phone

  • re warranty - doesn't look like they have an Australian office, if there is a problem you will have to post back to Hong Kong, only some couriers will accept items with lithium ion batteries so will be expensive.

    • +1

why would someone neg my above comment? this is a fact and buyers should weigh this in their purchase decision.

  • +1

I got mine when they were first released and used it for years without a hitch.

Since then I got a Moto G (needed dial SIM at the time) and went back to the Nexus 4 and only then did I notice the run time was lacking.

Its a great phone if you aren't playing games on it a few hours a day though.

  • +1

with a phone this old, expect the battery to be clagged, unless they specifically say they've replaced it.
    Nothing to see here IMHO

    • +1

Yeah, doesn't say anything about a new battery.
I'm reluctant to buy a (device with a) second hand battery, especially given the battery life when new.

      • the battery life is quite good on my refurb nexus 4. I have done 2.5 hrs screen time and still have 50% battery left. The phone was on aeroplane mode (wifi on only) for a lot of the time however….beats the crap out of my old kitkat S2!

  • I wonder if these "refurbished" ones are anything other than plain brand new stock that has been gathering too much dust. Economics 101 sell to the rich for a high price and the same product to the poor for a cheaper price (but perceived to be inferior).

    • +2

that's not really economics. more like marketing 101

  • +1

Good phone. Still pretty snappy. These had great specs for the time (quad core, 2GB ram etc). Only missing 4G
With the Lollipop update they'll have some life left.

  • where's the 16GB one? No way I'd get an 8GB phone.
    Link??

    I found it
    http://www.expansys.com.au/google-nexus-4-16gb-black-officia…

    $172 with shipping.
I'm pretty sure you could flog it off as second hand for that price if you didn't like it.

    • +1

Like shamid202 said at the top tomorrow you get an extra 10% off (I'm not confirming this), would have saved me a little as long as stock did not run out in the meantime.

  • always wanted one of these since it came out….

    not sure now

hearing the bad battery is killing it for me

they should remake the nexus 4 =]

    • +3

Get it, it's a great phone. The battery problem has been over hyped here, at this price it's a steal.

    • +1

Yeah, like andysa said, the problem is hyped. Excellent phone, great features, and handles most things except high end games very well. Get a $10 power bank, if you're really concerned.

  • +1

Would not consider unless it has a new battery. Even then the runtime is an issue.

  • Refurbished quality good or not ?

    • +1

I suspect "refurbished" is just a sales gimmick to offload old inventory without upsetting distributors and retailers too much. Also so as not to cannibalize their full priced stuff.

  • +1

I have a Nexus 4 8GB from last year's $249 delivered deal through Google Play Store - It's an excellent phone (admittedly let down by battery life - you must have a charger handy at all times!) but 8GB is fine if you manage your phone! Use online backups such as google photo (don't store jpg files directly on your phone, keep your phone free from useless unused apps/media and for $139 you have yourself a massive bargain!

  • battery can be replaced with a bit of effort. If all else fails, you can trade it into au.webuy.com for $150 cash (8gb version). So worth a punt!

  • +1

    purchased! thanks for posting.

  • -1

    10% off todaoy?

    • +6

does not apply to nexus devices. so stop waiting and BUY!

  • Have a nexus 5 but still looking for an excuse to buy.
    Always wanted this phone.
