  • Can you cancel the month to month plan after 1 month? or earlier?

    • +1

I did last time. Signed up for a $20 month to month data sim, followed by the service with the free modem. Cancelled both few days before the billing renewal date.

just watch your data usage! I went over by a few mb and got stung $10 for another gig!

      • Cool thanks, I might pop into a Voda store to sign up one.
Don't really need it, might come in handy.

  • "MUST BE AN ADDITIONAL SERVICE on an existing acccount to qualify for this deal." so you have to be a vodafone mobile customer for this deal to work. Dammit

    • maybe get a friend or family member already with VF to get it for you?

      • No one I know has vodafail. They are either on telstra or optus

        • hmmm..i wonder if i can get more than one..

  • When I'm check out still see the one off-cost 99$ is that normal ?

  • Make sure you don't get this and then add the 50% off $50 SIM ONLY like some other guy who made a fuss afterwards.

  • Any promo codes? The $99 one off cost is still there on checkout.

    • Not sure why it's doing that. Maybe not updated online yet
      Maybe call them?

    • Are you signed in? or does the signup allow you to?
Or can you order this from the member's area?

      • I do have an account, and was trying to add it as an additional service using myvoda account. Guess jimbo is right, it hasn't been updated online yet.

        • yup. I'm signed in and added it to the cart from the member's area. Went thru all the way to the direct debit authorization page with the $99 fee still in the cart. Might be more worthwhile heading in store to grab one.

  • Can I use a provider that only provide 3G on this 4G modem?
I assume this one is unlocked, based on google search.

    • They are unlocked, however you will need to re-configure the device with the APN settings of the other provider every time the device is turned off/on as the device will auto load Vodafone settings every time it is power cycled.

      • Thanks, didn't know this one.
So I can use the 3G only provider like Aldi?

        • You can use it with any provider that has a 3G service.

      • The settings will remain the same if we just set the device to standy/sleep though, right?
Would be a real PITA otherwise

  • Grabbed it over the phone. Great deal. Thanks OP.

How is this "back". Last promotion is still ongoing, as I have commented on in other deals. Signs always stated it may be continued. Some Vodafone stores may not have stock.

    • -1

      Wrong!
The deal was pulled about 3 weeks ago and replaced with a USB stick offer.

      • Not according to 2 Vodafone stores in Brisbane. Both said if the store has stock the deal is still active. They had stock.

  • can you get more than 1 per account? if so might be able to help out kei

  • As an existing Vodafone customer, I've successfully changed over to the Vodafone $50 RED SIM ONLY plan and here's how I did it. Of course with the help of this deal hence why I am sharing my experience here.

    1. Refer to this 4G Pocket Wifi deal and get yourself one of those as an existing customer, preferably in store so you get the product and activate it almost instantly - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/167312

    2. Now that you have 2 services under Vodafone, port your existing number out to a pre-paid service. In my case I chose to port to Optus and did it free of charge by walking into an Optus store and asking for a $2 blank sim and tell them you want to port. (My Vodafone Postpaid to Optus Prepaid Port took under 20min to complete, cost $0)

    3. Walk yourself back to Vodafone store and ask to be connected to this $50 RED SIM 50% off MTM offer on the mobile number that you've just ported out. (Optus Prepaid back to Vodafone Postpaid Port took 10~15min to complete)

If you follow the steps above and manage to go between the two stores (eg. when they are next to each other in a mall) you should be able to do everything comfortably in less than an hour.

All you need is to bring 100 Point ID and sign a few papers. Total cost of this is $20 by obtaining the 4G Pocket Wifi device and that gets you 2.5GB of data.

Disclaimer This is how I've obtained it, does not guarantee it will work in your circumstances, please take my advice as a suggestion.

Is this available for prepaid customers?

  • Grabbed one of these today! Great little device with a lot of advanced routing features like NAT and firewalls.
Will be cancelling once it's a day after my billing period resets!

  • Expired?

    • Nah I just got one!

  • For the guys who signed up in store, did you sign the contract saying the modem was $99? The guy showed me that on the screen it says special bonus yada yada, which doesn't print out onto the contract, but assures me that this credit will go into my account the next billing cycle.

Does this mean I'll have to pay 2 mths before cancelling?

    • I haven't personally done it but I read in the forum post that someone managed to cancel it a few days after signing up and that's before the end of their current monthly cycle. He only paid a few bucks.

  • Hmm… Well I rang VF and they looked up my account. Apparently from what they can see on their system, the credit will be done in 2 parts, a $70 and $29 credit. My billing cycle ends in 15 days so I will wait to see if I get the credit before calling up to terminate the mobile data plan before the 30 day limit.
