        because via that link its $10 more expensive?

        • -8

          because via that link its $10 more expensive?

          but why is it $10 more expensive when you search for the product within the website?

        • +16

          @jv:

          Ozbargainers usually don't care why something is cheap, they only care that it IS cheap.

        • I think the point jv is making that the OP has clear affiliation to megabuy

        • +5

          @dosada:

          The delivery cost for the $19 link is $15.95, whilst the $9 one only has $9.95 postage.

          What is going on here !!!!!!!!

          @jv:

          It's a conspiracy mate. They are all after you, They have found you. They will get you.

          RRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

        • @jv: But wait there's more! (No, not steak knives.)

          On the $19 one there is a View pick-up pricing link, and voilà! It's now $24.50.

        • +1

          @McFly:

          and voilà! It's now $24.50.

          So you pay $5.50 for them not to deliver it to you ?

        • +2

          @dosada: GET TO DA CHOPPA

        • @jv: Pretty dodgy behaviour there at megabuy. Bought one anyway, should do as a GB switch.

    • Because Megabuy and some other stores show the prices direct from their suppliers. So in Megabuy's case they have two suppliers. I asked them about this a couple of years ago. They receive prices and stock inventory direct/live from the supplier's systems and may then throw on their mark up.

  • Thanks.
    Just bought one. Any good on this?

    • +15

      It's awful, the reviews are terrible.
      One person commented that a carrier pigeon can route data faster.

      • +4

        Turn off the routing and wi-fi and voilà - cheap Gb switch!

        • +27

          Turn off the power and voilà - cheap paperweight!

        • @jv:
          I have the router and there is now way to turn of NAT. Wanted to use it an an AP in WAN bypass. but the damn NAT cant be turned off. And i get the feeling it some how is a pain even in WAN bypass

        • +3

          @dy4me: you shouldn't need to turn off NAT to use it as a switch and AP. Just disable DHCP and don't plug anything into the WAN port.

      • +11

        Great … where do I get these pigeons on special??? Any deals out there? Would need a few for 15Mbps. Do they also fly at nighttime (offpeak) or do you need to upgrade to bats or owls …???

      • +4

        Looked on static ice. Looks like carrier pigeons are out of stock

        • Dick still has them. Online only. Pay Pal in this case not accepted.

    • That's $19 too…

      • Sorry, good point. Looks like IT spot are megabuy anyway. If not their sites look pretty similar!

    • In your link the total I get is
      Delivery Cost: $15.95
      Product Total: $34.95

      compared to 19.95 in the megabuy link

  • Bought one because I don't have a spare router and it's handy to have one.

  • +1

    Had this for about a year now, it's pretty terrible. If you only want slow wifi within a 5 meter radius, then this is the product for you! Best usage is the gigabit switch

    • +1

      have you tried custom firmware on it? often it helps with connectivity issues

      • At a guess, given the size and the price it's likely got too small a wifi amplifier. It's possible that it has enough to deliver N300 speeds for one user if they're next to the router itself. The hardware list on whirlpool didn't reveal much.

        If you were really interested in getting this as a switch it's not going to be bad provided some of the security vulnerabilities have been patched. Being a 2011 model it's unlikely so maybe consider it for network printing and other utilities (guest network etc.)

      • Well I guess I don't want to risk it as the last router I tried to put on bricked despite having followed the instructions to the t. Not that it was any good before anyway (being a linksys and all :p ) still works as a switch though.
        Also my previous dlink router saw no improvements after flashing ddwrt. Must be our crappy house.

    bought this last time it was on sale at megabuy.
    range seems pretty decent to me, but yes it is just single band.
    note that to do printer sharing (using the USB on the back), you need to use their Shareport software which is quite annoying.

    Thanks Op grabbed one for a spare , came to $19.82 with paypal and shipping insurance " 19 cents " .

    Review from here looks quite good http://www.trustedreviews.com/d-link-dir-645-smartbeam-route…

    Perhaps the wireless problems were with the the 657 model ? .

    Quote . At two metres the DIR-657 manages 49Mbit (6.13MB per second) – a respectable speed, but the SmartBeam equipped DIR-645 maintained a steady 82.4Mbit (10.3MB per second) genuinely delivering powerful performance from its 'N 300' (300Mbit

    Cheap router… For under $20 nice

  • probably it's the cheapest router that can run Open-WRT (custom firmware), thus massively improving its usage.
    Having said that, I bought one from D-Comp the other day for $19 as a standard price.
    Reception is terrible (used it as client)

  • When did D-Link make a consumer WiFi device worth buying?

    All the ones I have had are rubbish. The price sucks you in to buy another one and the only thing of value is the power supply.

    Poor performance, firmware that forgets settings and poor long term support.

    • +1

      Firmware sucks, but thats standard across the board. If you get one that is *wrt or Tomato compatible, then they're pretty sturdy.

    officeworks pricematch? i wouldnt touch megabuy with a 10 foot pole.

    • Never used them before but mine has already shipped.

  • My BOBlite router is playing up… Do i avoid this then?

  • Clicking on the link comes up with "Product not found". Is it all over?

    • +1

      Dissapeared from my cart as well… oh well

      Edit: yes, sold out… Maybe some eba seller bought 100 again

  • This thing is shaped a lot like a Mac Pro. Anyone know if it'll fit?

    • Sounds like the other way around.. Came out late 2011 compared to 2013 on the Mac Pro.. Way before..

  • Just arrived. Wow.
