Wow very good price for the Xperia T2. Tks u :)

    • I got excited, until I saw the resolution, 1280x720…. :(

      • +1

The t2 was brought out as a mid range phone not a top range :)

  • Yeah great prices on last year's Sony models. I like that purple.

    • We have 3 xperia Z phones. Tried to get the purple back then and it was sold out each time, as so as stock got in it was gone. Ended up with black and white. Great phones still and smaller than the z1 with same screen.
Never had a problem except for my silly son breaking his carrying on with his mates.

      • The Z1 is a bit sizable, but that's because they put in a 21 megapixel camera with a sensor that normally comes in a "bridge camera" (between compact and SLR). The photos it takes are incredible.
Keep in mind that although the Z1 is bigger, it has better rounded corners and supposedly a stronger but less blurry screen than the original Z.

        • I wouldn't trust them after they were fined for misleading consumers on warranty

        • @TRENT86:

the warranty is with sony anyway?

        • @CVonV: Yeah by the looks of it. I wonder why they don't show the ram on it

        • +1

          @CVonV:

The warranty is ALWAYS with the retailer - https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

"You can claim a remedy from the retailer if the products do not meet any one or more of the consumer guarantees, with the exception of availability of spare parts and repair facilities.

The remedies you can seek from the retailer who sold you the product include a repair, replacement, or refund and in some cases compensation for damages and loss.

The retailer can’t refuse to help you by sending you to the manufacturer or importer".

    • I believe the xperia z1 is worth the extra over the xperia z. Is it the same for the z1 ultra vs. Z ultra?

      • There is no Z1 Ultra. Just the Z Ultra. Been waiting for the new Ultra (Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4?) for a while and gave up and pre-ordered a Note 4.

        • Love the ultra…oversized but brilliant in performance, display and thickness

      • +1

Z1 is much higher spec than z1.

  • Anyone else getting the order is getting "reviewed" email?

  • A question for the more technically inclined. There is a recent deal I was eyeing, for a $172 shipped refurb Nexus 4 16GB. It's got 2GB ram and a 1.5GHz quad core snapdragon. Where would this sit amongst all these phones? Am I right to say quicker than the T2 and M2 due to the double ram size?

    • Nexus 4 should be faster and with a better graphic chip, but be wary of the battery life and camera.

  • These are funny looking TVs @TRENT86

  • good price for T2

  • Perfect timing, need a new phone

Moto G vs T2 - any advice on the better of the two?

    • Completely difference size …. decide small or big first.

    • +2

T2 will likely have a better camera.

  • Thanks op.

  • -1

No offence but knowing who I know those prices are actually pretty average. Don't forget to google the model and see what prices come up first. HN haven't been known to give things away.

    • +3

The only good price is the T2. Maybe the M2.

      The rest are meh.

MSY had the Z at 300-320 for a long long time before selling out. Z1 at about 400 as well. Then obviously the Z Ultra at 320 as well. Moto G 4G has been at this price by Good Guys and DSE previously

      • YEAH, agree the T2 is probably the best out of the deals. but with 1GB of ram is it still capable for modern days use?

        • iphone 6 & 6 plus have 1gb ram too - although different phone os

        • 2GB is better and smoother.

        • For me, it probably wouldn't matter, browsing, watching videos, just basic stuff. More ram would be better, more tabs while browsing, better gaming etc. But for 220 odd, its a good mid range.

  • Wow why is the T2 Ultra's 3.5mm jack on side? If you don't have an angled jack seem like it would be the biggest pain in the ass to use

    • practical or not it's so you can watch movies/play games while holding onto it.

      • hmm fair enough, that actually makes sense.

  • I had a t2 ultra 4g (not dual sim) which I bought in the ebay 15% off sale. After 3 weeks screen started flickering then died entirely. It's on the way back to hk for (maybe) a repair, the seller has already refunded me in full.

Thoughts about the phone- huge screen was good, incredible battery life, performance was fine for emails and web, never tried gaming on it. Terrible, terrible, awful camera. Bad white balance, contrast and lots of flaring/purple fringing. Lightweight because of plastic construction. If the screen hadn't gone bad, I would recommend it providing you didn't care about photo quality. If I get it back I'll keep using it, otherwise will probably look for a moto g, oneplus etc.

    • +1

From the reviews, the photo quality is supposed to be decent enough. If you think its terrible, probably stay away from moto g and other mid range phones, coz they are supposed to be worse.

      • It's probably fixable with a firmware upgrade. But I assume that Sony may have included a camera sensor that is at the budget category, so don't too much from a mid-spec device.

I'd look at the new Samsung Galaxy Mega 2. The previous Mega 6.3 got fairly good reviews and Samsung usually does pretty well in the imaging department.

        • From the GSMarena review, they think they actually used Xperia Z's sensors in the T2.

          http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_t2_ultra-review-1075p8.p…

However, Xperia Z's camera isn't exactly that great, but it should be better than other mid-range phones such as Moto G and Zenfone, where the camera is decidedly mediocre.

        • @garratt torlesse:
The camera on the z is not that bad really especially when the os was updated and anew camera system was in place.

  • I'm looking for a new phone as well. As an Ozbargainer, anyone know of any good websites that you can price match for these phones? Thanks!

    • +1

mobileciti had the T2 Ultra for $100 more on special the other week so don't think you can do much better for that one :P

      • +1

Also, Kogan and Unique are selling grey stock at 300 currently.

    • DWI

      • +1

They are 275 for 4g and 320 for this particular model (3G dual sim).

Not to mention they are grey and won't PM.

    Key feature
    512GB RAM

    Get it while you can.

  • I currently own a Motorola G 4G. My main issue is the depth of the handset, 11.6mm compared to say the Xperia Z which is only 7.9mm. Any advice on if it would be worth replacing my current handset with something like the Xperia Z, I don't like the Z1 as it's very heavy, around 176g from memory.

    • +1

      The weight of;
      - Xperia Z, 146g
      - Xperia Z1, 170g
      - Moto G, 143g

Would you really notice the extra 24 grams?

      • I know it sounds stupid but I'm very OCD about this kind of thing.

        • The Z1 does feel a bit heavy. But it is significantly faster, as it has a much more modern chipset (snapdragon 800, versus 400). Battery life is also quite amazing (I get 3 days out of mine).
But frankly, looking at the list above, I would say the best bargain is the T2. But if you are a heavy user, you will need 2GB RAM.

        • @Make it so: Can't even went though even a day with it. How come u have 3 days battery life?

    • Mentioned before that we have three z phones. Size wise the phone is great better than z1 and z2, really thin and light and top and bottom bezel (black area top and bottom) is smaller.
Never upgraded to the newermodels cos they didn't seem nicer to hold, z3 is great though.

  • Any idea when the special ends?

    • +1

I asked the HN staff online and they said it ends on the 10th of November

      • Thanks

  • +1

What do you guys think the Sony T2 Ultra? Is it too big at 6" (I wonder if it'll fit in a pocket!) Thanks

    • Doubt it will. My 5" Z1 barely fits. And when wearing jeans, it certainly isn't comfortable. It's what put me off from buying an Ultra, in spite of the great MSY special.

    • I had such concern too at first but now start getting used to with it :), great price for a work phone ^_^

    • Just got one. Bargain for that price. Kitkat 4.4.3
Not going to fit in pocket. Between the side pockets maybe…..

      Dual sim

  • Channels for the T2?

    HN chat didn't know…. 0_0

I jumped on the T2 anyway- hope it's not a mistake?

    Anyone know the SIM size?

    Ta

    • i just bought one t2 it uses micro sim, i like it good at present at this price.

  • +2

Dont forget that sony has promised android 5 (L) for all z models.
So even the original z I have will get it.

  • +2

Just wanted to thank OP for this great deal! My Z1 screen shattered few weeks ago and the cost of the repair exceeds the cost of a new T2! I know it is a less powerful model but looks like it does what I need! So I just ordered one in white:)

  • Hi,

What do people think about the M2, as a phone and it's price?

Not too keen on it's 8gb, would prefer 16 at the very least.

I'm keen on the 16gb Sony Z1 compact, but wish it had 32gb.

I'm not a big mobile user, so it's size (or a bit smaller) is about right for me & it's water proofing is a huge plus, as I dont have worry about buying a waterproof compact camera, as my current camera isn't.

    • +1

Compared with T2 side by side.looks grainy….. speed fantastic for the price tag

  • +1

Thought I might add I visited harvey norman who had no stock of the xperia Z, went to joyce mayne who not only beat the $349 price, but had an ex demo model which I picked up for $294. Brand new he was offering for $338.

  • After 24hrs of umming and ahing i pulled the pin on the T2, Waiting for the ready for collection email now. Cheers OP!

What cases and microSD cards are people getting?

    • Got my today - second last actually! Double check it is the colour you want, good I opened the box in the car since they gave me wrong colour:) Still think about the case, I have purchased 16gb sd card for $10 at the local Post office.

  • +2

Loving the t2's battery life, I picked up the shoppingexpress 32gb sd and am thinking of either going with these two for cases

  • Glad you guys like them :)

  • Ah I foolishly waited too long. T2 Ultra is out of stock near me :(

Edit: black out of stock, looks like white is the colour for me

    • FWIW it seems that the $5 off coupon never expires despite the email stating it will expire in 100hours. I just used one from 3 months ago.

  • Thanks to the OP getting mine sent in white (that is all that was left). I put the wrong email address in and so I have no delivery information being sent. Does anyone have an idea of how long delivery takes? I have mine delivered to Sydney central.

    • Its via Auspost, but it depends on the speediness of the store thats handling your order. They don't have a central distribution centre, the orders are processed by your closest store with stock.

      • Thanks. I thought it might have been couriered like TGG which only took a day. If it's by Auspost I presume it will take a bit longer

        • Got mine today. It's huge. Only used it for a few hours but love it so far! Android is the way forward. :)

  • Got the phone, T2—- beautiful, I'm chuffed..but-

Cannot connect to the internet? The SIM says data is enabled & I can get email…I'm on BOOST unlimited.

Any ideas? Is it a bad mobile?

    Weird.

    Ta.

Just a side-note: have had an "update" message from update centre drop in— "Ready to download" @ 409-MB! Good grief— kind of frigging bloated for an 8GB mobile??

Seriously- anyone have a clue why I cannot get online? It works fine still in the old mobile I'm trying to replace (because it shuts the freaking ringer off!). Gah…I just want a phone to do very basic stuff & it's a drama- sigh

*I take it back- I thought I got email- but no.

    Wtf is wrong? Help?

  • I just went through a reset & am now looking at mobile settings>

I see SONY GPRS under APNs- is that correct?

When I press "Network operators" it searches but doesn't find anything?

Old mobile is Huwaei- finds no issues, so not my location or chip…

    ???

PS- tried both SIM slots, too.

  • *Update: I did have to manually add tesltra.wap to the list of APN's.

Also, this being the 3rd opening of the msd slot, the nice, gloss outside layer simply "popped off". This is the layer with the msd logo on it…not impressed, as I have been very careful lest I might need to return it…

With these issues, not happy w/Sony. Very clunky connectivity & VERY weak covers.

    Imho

    • Don't say these things, my order hasn't arrived yet :(

      • Well, at least you know that you might have to add in your own APN?

I mean, that's just weird to me? I've had a few mobiles in the past years and NONE of them needed ME to input my APN?

As far as the covers go— I've always hated those little dangling plastic bits, but for $213, was going to overlook it this time. In my case, maybe I just got a dodgy one- a one-off, poorly glued outer sheath…

Last quibble (or, agreement to previous posts): the volume is weak. Sony has this "boost" setting for the internal speaker, but it doesn't do much. Volume on max isn't very loud. I can comfortably listen to music w/earbuds at max volume (set at 50% is nearly mute)…being Sony, you'd think to expect "great sound"?

To make you feel better—> other than those niggling issues, the phone is a beautiful thing. Good looks & responsive. Imho

        • For me, when I started the phone with the SIM in the first thing it did was a wizard and asked "do you want to connect to the internet and automatically configure the SIM card" (or words to that effect). Shortly after (<5 seconds) it popped up asking if I was Telstra or Boost mobile (I'm neither, Aldi Mobile) but I chose Telstra anyway at it worked right away.

  • My T2 Ultra arrived today, it is BIG. Very nice so far and I like that most of the pre-installed rubbish (facederp, twatter etc) can be uninstalled. Can anyone suggest a good screen protector (but <$10) for it?

  • When does this deal expire?

    • I think it is as good as expired. Most of the Sony phones are not listed on the site anymore, and many of the remaining phones are no longer at the discounted price.
