New month, new Amaysim Deal:
Unlimited calls, unlimited text plus 5GB of data for $22.50 for a month. Its a half price starter deal so it reverts to $44.90 after that but Amaysim is very flexible, so you can just change it to "As You Go" after that with no ongoing commitment or choose whichever call and/or data deal suits your needs.

As per the drill, click one of the referral links below and you and the referee will receive $10 credit to be used for your following month. Very nice. High five.

  • is it still a good deal after the first month?

how does it compare to vayas 18$ plan

$22.50 is for the 1st month, after that you have to pay $44.90

    • +1

Unlimited deal is $22.50 for the first month, $34.90 for the second month (with the $10 referral credit) and $44.90 per month after that. Its month to month, so you can change any time.
I used the first month Unlimited + 5GB on a deal like this one, and then I changed my SIM to "As You Go" and just use it for data and overseas calls (quite good rates for many countries). If you just want data you can leave your SIM as "As You Go" and add data packs anytime you need one.
It is easy to swap your deal from their dashboard and if you use the "As You Go" one there is no or very long expiry.
Have a dig around the site and you'll see the different combos.

I'm with Lebara for $29.90 unlimited calls, SMS and 2GB data. And I'm what you would consider an average user. I don't find I even go over 1GB data usage per month for ordinary browsing, even with the occasional YouTube video thrown in.

My partner was with Amaysim before they raised their prices from $39.90/mth with the "so useful extra data" that no-one uses. She has now moved to Spintel. Once Amaysim went over the $40 mark they no longer represented a good value prepaid unlimited plan. There is too much competition in the sub $40 market.

    • I agree regarding the full service Unlimited at $44.90 per month but they way to extract to value is to go with a half price deal for the first month and then change the deal to As You Go and use it when you need.
It makes a very handy light use data deal as per above and the overseas rates are good for the countries I call.

I'm on Telstra Prepaid on an old plan that gets me 5GB a month (2gb + 3GB data pack using the credit included in the recharge). While I don't use the full 5GB every month, I do get through it every third or so. It's really not THAT much data, especially if you're letting larger apps update over the air.

Agree both my wife and myself have noticed out data appetite seems larger the past six moths. I havent really noticed any change in our habits, so it could be more data rich content, more HD views on Youtube etc but its creeping up for sure.

    Many Options

Amaysim is good, ive been with them for a while, but they have their ups and downs sometimes. But in general im happy with them. Although their customer service is starting to be hard to deal with at times

  • +2

I remember there was uproar when the price of this plan went from $40 to $45, but they only gave an extra 1Gb of data. There are many more competitive plans on the market nowadays.

  • New customers only……
    Hate that.
    Wheres the loyalty thanks.
Existing customers still pay full price!!

Only bad thing about amaysim is that it is 3G not 4G. If your phone is 4G compatible you may as well get a 4G sim.

  • I just swapped over on the 24th. Is there anyway I can still get the half price?

    • I cant think of any way once it is up and running.

Has anyone used this to switch back and forth with Boost unlimited, getting the first month half price from their respective starter kits (then switching each month)?
I know in previous Boost deals, people switched from Boost to a $2 sim on another network so they can switch back to a new Boost starter kit.

    • You could do it but its a lot of fancy footwork.

    • Currently with amaysim & swapping to $20 boost at end of my current 30 days. Can l buy the $22.50 amasyim deal while l am currently with them? I want to swap back and forth to get the best deal. I've always found trsf times are quick.

      • You can buy another SIM with a new number, sure.

        • Can l keep my existing number?

        • @taneh:
You can only have your number with one company at a time and you want to cycle to Boost for a month and come back. There would probably be some lag time between purchasing and activating but I think its too far away. This is a November deal and you are yet to go to Boost for a month? Probably best to wait for another deal.

way better deals add $6 if you dont have a health care card

runs off optus 3/4G network and data is counted in kb ……on it now for 2nd month

not a single problem with them

    • The closest deal is $43 and you need a health care card, so $49 without?

This one is $22.50 for the first month, then $34 for the second then $44.90 for the third.

The smart way to play it is to sign up @ $22.50, use the Unlimited and 5GB for a month, then from your dashboard flip it over to "As You Go" and use your $10 referral credit for overseas calling or another 1GB or asual calling, it is very long expiry.

      • If you have more than one SIM, then should be fine. But if you have only one sim and make calls then its a hassle. Especially if you want to post your number after 30 days Amaysim and the delays with the porting can be troublesome sometimes

        • Yes though a lot of people are OK with porting in and out. Others could use this for 2-3months as a spare/ phone for the relatives over the holidays etc. There are smart ways to play this for good value.

How to get maximum Ozbargain value with this deal:
I would like to point out a few ways to get full value from this deal. As others have pointed out, some other phone companies such as the ones EC listed above offer similar or better ongoing deals, but Amaysim $22.50 Unlimited with 5GB of data is an excellent deal. The only problem is that it reverts to FULL price the following month, although this is reduced by $10 to $34.90 if you signed up with a referral link.
First, I would like to point out for clarity's sake that these Amaysim deals are month by month "pay as you go" not on a contract and from the dashboard, you can flip between the three deals they offer at any time. They are Unlimited (this one), Flexi - which is $20 per month with 500MB of data at a cheaper calling rate than "As You Go" and "As You Go". I like "As You Go" because you can park your SIM there (it has long expiry) and use it for overseas calling, occasional casual calling when you need an extra phone, and data packs.

    — The overseas rates are the same for all the deals. http://www.amaysim.com.au/international-call-costs
    — Data Packs can be added at any time ($9.90 for 1GB) http://www.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/amaysim-mobile-broadb…

Three Suggested Ways To Use This:
1/ As An Unlimited Deal for Two Months.
Handy as a phone deal for the relatives, for example.
Use the first Month $22.50, the Second @ $34.90 (with $10 referral credit) and then move on. You get two months of Unlimited calls and text plus 10GB of data over two months for $22+$34.90=$57.40 or Total cost $28.70 per month

    2/ As a Data SIM.
You get 5GB of Data so you could just use that in a modem/dongle for the first month and then flip it over to "As You Go" and use your $10 credit to buy another 1GB. Total Cost $22.50

    3/ My Preferred Method
Sign up to the Unlimited $22.50 deal, use it over the month, then flip it over to "As You Go". You can then use your $10 credit either to add 1GB OR sit on the credit and make overseas calls over the nest few months. Deals are pretty good for many counties 6c per minute to the US, UK, NZ, France Germany etc (see rates above) and the expiry is long. Total cost $22.50

  • My biggest concern with Amaysim is the Security on their website. Connection isn't encrypted, CC details very easy to get stolen. :-(
