  • Includes Mac Mini. Nice…

Click and Collect; can you use the Gift Cards to pay when picking up?

    • You can pay online with Wish cards, unless they're new ones which they don't take anymore.

      • New ones as of when?

      • is this true?

  • Wow nice. 10%-11%-12%-13%-14%!!! the discounts get bigger and bigger!

  • +2

That's $419 of the retina iMac.

I notice Dick Smith aren't taking Wish cards anymore (except old stock of them you might have).

    • The $250 value wish gift cards still works for sure. Other smaller nomination ones without DS logo on them don't work.

      • Where do you get these at a discount from?

  • Harvey Norman won't price beat this as they don't don't have it in stock atm.

  • I stocked up dicksmith $100 Gift cards with value of $110 from Coles last week.

Do you guys think this is the best time to jump on to MAC ? or wait till Nov end for CLICKFRENZY/Thanksgiving ?

    • Depends what model you are after. If it's the top of the line MBP I doubt there will be a better deal. If it's a an Air then your chances of a clickfrenzy special might be higher.

      • Thanks mate.
I am after the old version of macbook pro
        http://www.dicksmith.com.au/apple-computers/apple-macbook-pr…

        • That's around $1065 after 14% discount and gift card discount. I don't see it getting too much cheaper than that.

        • Thanks mate.. hitting it.

      • +4

Not sure why you're here on OzB if you're here to ridicule an entire race for trying to save a few bucks?

  • +1

need one for son going to high school, not sure whether to jump on this.

    • +1

They're usually aren't any more sales (apart from refurb, ebay etc.) until around June next year. I suggest you jump on this, I purchased at a similar time last year and have not been disappointed.

      • *They're usually aren't any more sales (apart from refurb, ebay etc.) until around June next year

What? Dick is always on sale! I have got 12-15% OFF during Christmas, Easter

  • damn, didn't see this one coming. I got it when it was 12% off. Good deal. Would have saved $36 bucks off my Macbook Pro Retina if I got it this time.

  • +3

Pretty good discount, considering that staffs at apple store are able to get 15% off for 10-15 friends/family member a year.

  • Can we combine with Cash back ?
    http://starthere.com.au/Dick-Smith-Electronics

    • -2

      Of course :)

    • Unfortunately you can't :(

      Conditions

Excluded products: Cashback is not paid on Samsung, Apple or Chromecast products. Cashback is not paid where a coupon code is used that is not listed on this site.

  • REP

Are you guys doing deals on gift cards before Christmas just like previous years?

    • there was one few weeks back, from Coles.
      55 Value for a $50 and 110 value for a $100 GC

  • Do I get another 2.3% with starthere?

  • 2 questions and I hope someone can help to clarify.
Firstly, is there limitation of the quantity of gift cards to used when checking out online? I got a bunch of $50 DickSmith gift cards.
Secondly, is it possible to customise the Mac product coz I am interested in getting a new iMac with Flash storage?
    Thanks

    • as per the discussion last week on the mac discount, it was said that there is no limitation on usage of Dicksmith Gift cards online

    • No to the gift card question

  • anyone know how much discount apple give to students / education teaching staff if buying through apple store?

  • +2

    Purchased the iMac Retina, thanks!

  • Really tempted on the retina iMac.

  • +1

Bought an iMac Retina 5k display thanks! Shame that we cant use this on BTO! :P

    • Do you mean CTO?

      • CTO means ?

      • BTO = Means "Build to Order" iMac, I wanted to up the GPU or CPU (BTO) more but no discounted on BTO :)

        • I don't even see a BTO option on DickSmith page?

    • That's a 1TB HDD

      • Thanks. Weird that they leave that spec out in the dicksmith site.

  • I'm looking for a LEGIT reason to spend the $$$ on a Macbook Pro. I'm just a casual user… internet, videos, word processing, little gaming if at all…

    Anyone?

    • +7

Macbook Air is an easy pick then. I have the 2013 model, and in comparison to people who have the new MBP, its a lot lighter, has far better battery (8 hours vs around 12-15), has a nice feel for typing due to the tapered front, bright screen, louder/better speakers, great for gaming (cs/go runs fine at native, med settings). Only reason I would go the pro is for screen quality, which is far better. IMHO not worth the price unless you work with photoshop etc.

      /TL;DR Get a Macbook air.

    • -2

Apart from thinking you look cool.. you support Apple Shareholders and Tim Cook!

    • My partner was in a similar boat. Same usage as yours but she ended up buying the Pro instead of the Air because the screen looked a lot better. That's because the newer Macbook Pros come with the Retina display which is like 2880x1800 resolution or something whereas the Air comes with 1600x900, I think? I may not have the numbers exactly right but the screen difference is incredible. Other than the screen, it's all like Huntsmanll said. The battery life is similar but the Air will be lighter to carry around. But you have to see one in person before you decide on it. The resolution makes everything look really nice so, while it's probably the only real big difference between the entry-level Pro and Air, it's a pretty big difference.

EDIT: Actually, if screen resolution makes no difference to you, Chromebooks would be a far, far more affordable solution for your usage. But almost every Chromebook comes with a 1366x768 resolution.

  • Is it worth getting the 2.6ghz mac mini over the 1.4GHz mac mini? An extra $250…

2012 model is faster, but otherwise I would definitely go the faster model.

      • +1

But you cannot buy the older model anymore?

        • That's true (apart from second hand). Apparantly the turbo boost on the 1.4ghz is only 15% slower than the higher end model. As such, choose as per your needs. Just remember that if you choose the low end model, you may regret it as/if your current needs change.

        • I picked one up from JB HiFi on Friday for $618. Ring around.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't gift card thing from Coles for 10% expire last week? It's not 10% when you buy it from Coles, it's when you actually check out at dse which expired?

    • Coles had DSE Gift cards on sale with 55 value for $50 and 110 value for $100
along with 10% checkout at dse.

Combine them and have fun :)

      • I bought it be used for mbp before. Unless it's different to the deal I got a couple of weeks ago, it's not discounted at Coles checkout but at the Dse checkout. But the sign said expiry date on it which was like last week?

        • It just loads an extra $5/$10 onto the gift card.

        • coles offer wasn't a discount as such, it added a bonus $5 or $10 onto the gift card depending on the value of the card purchased. That offer has finished though. The only discount you'd get now is the current one dick smith has (unless you held onto your gift cards then you could combine the two)

        • -1

you are right… but the only problem is that we wont be able to claim TRS(if flying overseas in the next 60 days) if paid by gift cards

        • +1

@saipavankumar: why can't you claim TRS? payment method is irrelevant. as long as the total on the invoice shown is >$1k, it shows the GST component and has your name and address on the invoice there is no problem.

        • -1

@insular: Agree, I don't think the payment method should matter. GST was still paid on the gift cards when they were purchased.

          Edit: this is incorrect.

        • +1

@saipavankumar: I've got the gst back before on things paid by gift card

        • -1

          @insular:
No mate, as soon as i enter a Gift card and apply total.. the total value of the product gets reduced along with the GST.

        • @G5:
You mean i need to carry the Coles bill which i have when purchased Gift cards and claim GST showing them ?

        • +2

@saipavankumar: I bought a MacBook air a few weeks ago paying only with gift cards and the receipt says total includes GST of $95.92.

        • @saipavankumar: No, you should only need the invoice for the laptop. Gift cards are basically the same as cash in this circumstance - the GST should come off the gift card balance.

        • -1

          @rmk:
Even i expected that, but to my surprise. when i apply a Gift card online.. GST also gets reduced. Which means… If i pay the total amount using Gift cards, GST will be 0 :(

        • @saipavankumar: You should see something like this underneath where the gift cards are listed:

          Total(paid now) $241.14
          GST (included in total) $171.92

The GST is based on the total value of the product (in this case, $1891).

        • -1

          @G5:
No, GST shows 0 on the invoice.. for the gift cards purcahsed

        • @saipavankumar: But what about the invoice for the laptop? That's what you give to customs.

        • @G5:
when i place online order, GST shows 0 if i pay the total amount by gift card.
Do you think the invoice that we get in store when we pick up, will still have the GST figure on it ?

        • @G5:
          Sorry guys for the confusion

I reckon I am looking at the remaining balance and GST after applying the Gift card.

        • @rmk: so if you bought it before but didn't use it till now, and you buy Mac now and check out with those gift cards will it still give you 10% more? My understanding was that you needed to use it when the offer was on.

        • +1

          @youngchul76:
GC are valid for 1 year from date of purchase

        • @saipavankumar: hi all, i can confirm that you will be able to use the receipt for TRS because it shows both the GST component, full total amount (after all the gift cards) and your name and address.

        • DSE would have paid GST when they bought the goods (from Apple) and they will need to collect the GST off you (based on sale price) to claim what they paid back

  • Did you guys know that paying by Gift card will deduct the GST as well ?

    • Gift cards don't affect GST

  • +1

Thanks Guys. I was looking at paying full price or 6% off for Employee Program for iMac Retina.
Now this is too good to miss! $419 off.

  • 13" or 15" MBP? If only there were 16gb 13" versions!

  • Multiple dse cards work online. Isis this a few weeks back.

    • if you paid the total amount using a Gift card, wasthe GST 0 ?

  • does the voucher apply to apple accessories, super drive etc?

  • +3

I can confirm that the apple store at Bondi junction is price matching this offer.

    • Wow, they usually will only do 10% off at most

  • If I pay by gift cards, can I claim the income tax back as a business expense? I'm a teacher, so it should be legit. I'm just wondering if because I payed by gift cards, I won't be able to claim it back as a business expense

    • DOes your invoice show GST amount after paying by Gift card ?

      • I'm not claiming gst, I'm claiming the purchase price as a business expense

    • You can but only for the portion that is used for actually work. And you have to depreciate the machine over xxx years so you can't actually do it in one year.

  • Dick Does Deals

  • Excellent offer, sprung for a 13" Macbook Pro Retina! Does anyone know if Click and Collect will be available on a Sunday?

  • How come I can't see the discounted prices?

    • +1

you need to enter the promotion code

    • +1

did you apply the discount code?

      • Doh. Thanks!
