Open a NAB Smart Everyday account by 11:59pm AEST tonight (16/9/09) and get $100 deposited to your account by 20 November 2009. Direct deposit your salary into the account by 31 October 2009. Monthly Fees apply but will be waived if you deposit the required monthly amount. More details on the link.

I guess not exactly a freebie because you need to deposit a certain amount to get monthly fee waived. But it's easy to get.

  • oh wow nice

  • can i just open it for a while until i got the $100 then close it?

    • I dont see why not.

      #

"If before your $100 Bonus is received, your account is closed this offer will no longer apply to you and you will no longer be entitled to receive the $100 Bonus"

"You must then ensure that you deposit your salary into the NAB smart everyday account by 23:59 AEST 31 October 2009, otherwise you will not receive the $100 Bonus"

      http://www.nab.com.au/vgnmedia/images/Personal_Finance/money…

  • "6. $100 Bonus cannot be taken as cash."

wtf? How do you suppose to take it?

    • Probably means they have to deposit it into your account first, then you withdraw the cash. Rather than handing it to you as cash straightaway via mail?

  • Some strings attached:
"NAB may use your name, address and telephone number for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in any media worldwide without notice and without any fee being paid unless otherwise advised by you."

Sell all your personal details that can then be used by them at their own discretion and they'll give you $100

    • Im sure a lot of people have given more for less. ie. "Give us your details for FREE USB DRIVE" promos that have been on lol

    • I guess just advise them that you do not want your details used.

  • Wow! I'm amazed one of the big banks are trying these sort of desperate marketing ideas to con people into opening with them. The big banks normally are a bit more subtle when conning people.

  • Hmm I'm very tempted but somehow it seems too good to be true..

  • What do they define salary as? I.e. for now I'm self employed - would frequent micro deposits count as your salary?

    • It doesnt define what Salary means but if you goto the NAB eBanking info it says:

"Or, simply deposit at least $2,500 per month and you won't pay the monthly account service fee! "

"You could avoid paying the monthly fee, simply by depositing a minimum of $2,500 into your account each month. This could be your salary or other regular deposit"

    too much hassle…

  • +1

agree too much hassle. However, for those keen its not bad.

  • +1

They don't really give you much time to decide do they?

    • This is in conjunction with the Money For Jam TV program they are sponsoring. Money For Jam provides tips on how to save / make money and are targeting the TV audience. I guess that's why they are providing only such a short period of time for you to decide.

It's basically to encourage people to open an account with NAB. You can open these accounts any other day as per normal, just that you don't get the $100.

  • +2

    Too many strings attached!

  • +2

If I didn't have to bother payroll I would be all over this. But fair enough no one wants to give out $$ for no return.

  • +1

    I'm a student so I have no monthly fee's =)

  • Oh yea, anyone know if there's any cancellation fee?

    • I'm pretty certain there's no cancellation fees.

  • So I open my account, set up a once off $2500 deposit from my savings account, then close the account on the 1st of Novemeber I get $100?

    • I'd suggest closing the account AFTER you get the $100. They mentioned depositing the $100 by 20th of November.

  • arent we all missing the most important thing about bank savings accounts…..how much interest do you get????

  • Im not sure what the interest is on the main account but I just opened an account and chose the option to link an iSaver account to it (similar to commonwealth banks netbank saver)

"Open a NAB iSaver on or before 29 September 2009 and you’ll receive a fixed bonus interest rate of 1.65% p.a. for 4 months, on top of the standard variable interest rate, currently 2.75% p.a."

I probably wouldn't have done this if i weren't a full time student.

    • I am also a student and I am interested in this offer. Does anyone know what amount of money do we have to deposit? Just a reminder, I am student and I am unemployed.

      • i beleive it was stated above at least $2,500 needs to be deposited a month.

nothing said about keeping it there or is there a minimum balance rule ?

my plan is to open, deposit what they need and 24hrs later send it back to my normal account but keep the account open with like a $10 balance.

  • its not very clear when it says you must deposit your salary in there, what if your salary is $10? and NAB arent open after 8pm so you cant get help from them

  • Stuff it…I'm doing it. $100 is $100. I'll just deposit $2,500 from my other bank then move it back.

    • +1. just done it. one for me one for the wife, $200 is $200 :).

I'll deposit into mine then transfer into the wife's then withdraw the next day.

      • I think the balance needs to be maintained at $2500+ to avoid fees.

      • +1

Sharp - was thinking of doing one for my wife but I think she'd be annoyed that she'd have to go into a branch to complete the application. She already gets annoyed sometimes at my "bargains" LOL

        • I'm sure a $40 worth manicure etc treatment would convince her to go the bank. You're $160 in profit :)

          • @Sharp: LOL..true. You've sold me…just did the online bit for her. I'll leave it up to her to do the branch thing. :)

      • A friend of mine had his entire family signed up for this!

They are going to organise a family feast once their individual $100s gets through. Bet it's gonna be at an expensive restaurant.

        • +1

LOL but that doesn't fit a true bargain hunters profile. - A splurge on fast food and keep the rest for more bargains to be found here

          • @[Deactivated]: You're right — the $100 should be spent on Domino's pizza and USB memory sticks! :P

  • As I read it, the only requirement is that you deposit your salary. The $2500+ balance is only necessary to prevent you being charged an account fee.
Students note that though a fee free student account is offered in the application, it doesn't qualify for the $100.

    • Good point there. Fee free student account MIGHT not qualify.
But fee free does fall under Classic Banking, so not too sure how it works there!

Guess we'll find out when someone gives them a call tomorrow?

      • Yea interesting point that you've brought up.. I hope it does qualify =/

  • If I transfer my money from another account, does that count as "salary"?

EDIT: Hey guys, I was asked to choose the Visa Debit card colour. I assumed that its free of charge right? Please correct me if Im wrong.

    • +1

Yeah, it's free. Unless you choose pink if you're a guy…that'll cost you some harsh words from your mates.

    • Yup free of charge. If you do not intend to keep the account open, go for pink! Don't see many of these around…

  • Just open the account now and ask them about it tomorrow. You have nothing to lose if you're a student.
If you're not a student, the worst that can happen is you have to transfer $2500 into the account and move it back. I'm guessing too that what they mean by depositing your salary is that you deposit the minimum amount required to waive the monthly account fee.

I have an existing NAB account and the minimum of $2500 (or $3500 for NAB classic banking) refers only to deposit amount, not remaining balance.

  • Signed up as a full time student so I'll see how I go!

  • Signed up as a full time student. Could do with a free $100 [provided this takes less than 4hours of my time = worth it]!

    Orrrrite!

    • Thanks for that, was actually thinking of signing up for a NAB account, so hopefully made it in time…wooohooo 100 bucks…nice…

    • It took 2 minutes literally lol.. Just wondering if the previous comments about signing up as a student and possibility of not getting the $100 are true or not.

  • Missed it by that much :P

  • Only few hours…why can't they extend this!?!

  • Damn too late! Is this the banks equivalent of a Myer stampede sale? ;-)

  • I work 9-7. No chance to visit a bank :(

    • throw a sickies ;)

  • +1

I think the only people who knew about this and were in a position to act on it were today tonight watchers or those who troll through Ozbargain every couple of hours looking for bargains…lol!!!

    • +1

I do that, it's very addictive!

      • +1

+1 I do that too. And check ozbargain rss much more frequently

        • Speaking of rss feeds, can you get those to come directly to your internet enabled mobile?

          • @abchakraborty: I'm using newstand on iPhone.I check rss manually (every time I open the app it updates feeds). I'm not sure if there is an app that pushes rss (ie without openning the app).

  • Just got an email saying my account is ready to go. Fantastic.

Those with Student accounts, let us know what transpires.

  • Thanks to the op, just got my 2nd email to say all systems go and info that I am entitled to the 100. Woohoooo

    • What did they accept as 'salary' or did you just have to deposit a sum? e.g $2500 I opened an account but do not have a fixed monthly salary as such. Interested to know what they accept to get the $100 bonus and what I need to do.

  • called nab, got transferred twice and both reps had NFI about the promo

  • anyone got reply whether student account is valid?

    • I'm a student and I got an email saying my accounts were active along with information about 'final steps to claiming my $100' so I'm guessing it will be valid.

      • hmm.poopehz,when did u receive your email as i haven't received mine yet :(

        • Got mine today at around 2PM. They said all I need to do now is verify my identity at a branch or give them a call etc.

Give it another day or two, if they haven't sent you one by Monday afternoon maybe you could ring them up and ask. Don't lose hope :)

          • @poopehz: Have you got your identity verified? I haven't shown them my student card and I haven't got email confirming that my account has been activated. Do I need to show them my student card before they can activate my account?

          • @poopehz: I just received their email today that i have to call their hotline to get my address updated (i have no idea what's wrong with my address..)..anyway, will give them a call tomorrow :)

If it sounds too good to be true………… c'mon guys, you know how the rest of it goes!

lol at all the gullible people ;-)

    • I don't see what you're getting at… have you ever seen the past Raboplus offers? Exactly the same thing except with NAB.

    • +1

      lol is on you mate..

  • If it sounds too good to be true, has a 4 hour window, with some people missing out and feeling sore.. then it must be true! ;)

In all seriousness, it is true. Validated by NAB staff. Just deposit something by end of Oct and you'll get your $100 before Nov 20. Those that deposit less than the required amount for fee free req will probably just have to pay the monthly fee and still get the $100.

So yup, all those that applied, congrats! You'll definitely score a $100 if you follow through with the procedure. If 30 of us applied, we just scored $3000!

  • Just got an email from NAB about this and it's real.

    It says:

"Final steps to getting your $100 bonus
All you need to do now is visit your nearest NAB branch to complete the
standard identity checks before you can access your money from your new
account. Then, in order to be eligible for the $100 bonus, you just need
to deposit your salary by 31 October 2009.

We’ll then deposit your $100 bonus directly into your new account by 20
    November 2009."

Just wondering if anyone knows what do they mean by "Salary"? Can it be $1 from my other bank account? Because I did this with the ING account and I instantly got $20.

  • I haven't received an email from NAB requesting a branch visit. Is there anyone else in the same boat? The dealy just made me suspicious ???

    • I got my letter with BSB and account number and asking me to take it into a NAB branch with 100pts of ID to activate my account.

Still doesnt define what "Salary" means.

  • Just received the confirmation email. Hmm, now need to find out if $10 deposit is OK!

  • Has anyone found out what the definition of salary is here? The lady who validated my account offered to apply some 'salary' tag code to a deposit transaction to help make it work.

    • Not sure myself but I have my slary in there and it says "SALARY SALARY" whilst a normal back transfer from Ubank to NAB says "INTER-BANK CREDIT INTERBANK CREDIT" and an outward transfer from NAB to Ubank says "TRANSFER DEBIT INTERNET TRANSFER".

So check your current bank account and see if it says SALARY or CREDIT

    • Tried to deposit my 'salary' of $1750 cash so I could get my bonus. Teller deposited it as cash deposit only, said she could not tag it as salary and that I would not receive the $100 bonus. After mentioning posts here she rang head office and they confirmed no bonus could be paid for cash deposits and it had to be electronic salary deduction from employer. I closed account, withdrew cash and left. Massive waste of time and no consideration for self employed or people who live on non salary income. Thanks for zip NAB. Never again. Good luck to others who managed to get the bonus with non salary deposit.

  • I asked them a question via their messaging system. Here is the response:

    "Dear X,

My name is *****. Thank you for writing to NAB about the Money For Jam
    offer.

I have reviewed your enquiry and I can confirm that self-employed income,
directly credited to your account constitutes as a salary.

If you would ever like to speak with one of my colleagues directly, please
feel free to call us on
    13 22 65 or internationally on +61 3 8641 9083 between 8:00am and 8:00pm
    (AEST) Monday to Friday.

    Yours Sincerely,

    xxxxx xxxxxx
Mod note: Name removed via request
    Online Service Advisor"

This response didn't really answer my question - as I was asking specifically how they could tell if the deposit was salary or not - nor is it clear what they mean by directly credited (I assume deposited manually).

    • I just got the "Hurry last days to deposit your salary
to get your $100 bonus" email from them and it ends in two days… Which is definitely not enough time for an employer to set up direct depositing. Quite a mess they've made with the uncertainty of 'what is salary' anyway.

  • keep in mind for this account you have to deposit a minmium of $5000 for there to be $0 account fees.

if not you will be charged $10

cant wait to get my $100 and close the account no way I am keeping an account that going to give me crap interest and charge me $10 for it!!!

    • they only charged me 5. classic banking plus it will be free next year on the 22nd of jan so might aswell keep it

  • has anyone received their 100 dollars yet?

    • I was wondering the same thing. I haven't. My wife hasn't. :(

  • I'm still waiting. ????

  • today is the 20th. no money in my account? didn't they promise by the 20th?

    • Same here. What shall we do?

      • dissappointing…also didnt receive it.

  • I can't call them up because it is so obvious I manually transferred money and withdrew two days later not directed my salary or made this account my main transaction acount. :(

If your salary is going into this account call them and ask.

    • Hehe, same here. What i deposited is not my salary. But could they tell? Anyone there actually deposited your salary and got the money?

  • ill wait til the end of the day to see if anyone actually did get their bonus and reported back here

  • I guess only whingers would come here whinge like us. Others already gone out spending their cashbacks :)

    • yeah i guess soo…i didnt get it..

  • I didn't get mine either, anybody get it yet ?

I did get a reminder email from them to deposit the salary before 31Oct which I did but no $100 reward shown up.

Def closing this account next week!

  • GOT THE $100
    opened account
    deposited $100 cash
by this morning(21stNov) the $100 is in the account

    • a few problems:
-$100 deposited just a week or two after the online application
-i opened a student account, i think it should be free of fees, but charged me $5 fee on 2Nov.
-and since, the account has been showing current balance$95, BUT $0 available balance
-Now they have given the $100 bonus, making current balance $195, THERE IS STILL $0 AVAILABLE BALANCE

yet to enquire about the issues with NAB, nor try to withdraw from ATM
