10L Dulux Ultimate Interior Paint - $45 @ Mitre 10

50

This was at the Mitre 10 Mega, Beenleigh QLD, but is available in all stores as far as I know. It's very cheap for 10L. Sign says Dulux, but can anyone confirm?

Dulux 10l for $45. With paint you generally get what you pay for so this is either the bargain to end all bargains or a pale imitation. My money's on the latter.

In paint, you pay for all the advertising.

Pretty much. A little bit for customer service and sales reps too.

        • If you're suggesting all paint is pretty much the same quality you're in for a rude shock.

There do exist a few tiers in paint quality. Generally paint like this (e.g. cheap paint) is not nearly as good in terms of coverage (over previous paint, not m2), ease of application, washable properties or how 'white' the paint is. One of the big reasons it's cheaper is that they don't use as much Titanium Dioxide, so the base 'white' isn't as 'white' as the more expensive options.

The above holds true for most cheap paints, I'm not necessarily saying this is cheap paint (possible it's an old batch of decent paint put in new tins or something similar). However I know that the 'DuluxGroup' do produce some cheap nasty paint (not under the Dulux brand though), so this could simply be an extension of that.

Really depends on your need, for a spare bedroom in a house without kids, then this would do the job (application probably won't be as good though) - a house with kids/smokers/pets this probably isn't a great option.

Source - years working in a paint shop.

  • 10 Litres of Acrylic paint for $45. It's a bargain in anyone's book! Interior paint in most rooms, except bathrooms, kitchens and laundries is basically roll-on and forget. This price is amazing! But wait… will they tint it for this price ?

    • They might claim that they can't tint it but they always can, there just might be a need for you to accept that the colour may not be perfectly the same as if it was put into the paint the colour card/code is designed for.

Certainly is a Dulux style SKU. 10L for $45 is low margin, but easily possible with what raw materials for paint cost. Probably either a split-fill of some other no-name paint or a way to work away out-of-spec product that would otherwise need to go in the bin.
