Waited a while for that ,eh?
Not sure if you are a patient man or a man patient.

COVID was a novel virus hence why one could justify taking vaccines initially and not needing boosters now that it is no longer novel unless immunocompromised.

I didn't neg you FWIW and some people did vaccinate as their job was threatened. Not sure it's a "scamdemic" though whatever that is

            • +8

@easternculture: and you all knew all this before it started? genius!!

            • +17

@easternculture: But COVID was a pandemic. Just because you didn't die doesn't make it a "scamdemic".

Pandemic definition: "a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease over a whole country or the world at a particular time"

            • +19

@easternculture: Death toll in Italy was a scam?.Bodies piled in the street, morgues full.Refrigerated trucks taking the overflow.Generations of some families wiped out.All a scam? LOL
The point of this fake event was what? Flush out the lunatics and cookers on the right? Mission accomplished on that level. But what a way to find out.

                  @easternculture: Own eyes.

My best mate was stuck over there mid holiday and we video chatted often.

It was horrific. He lost a lot of family :(

                • +4

@easternculture: As someone who had family members who passed away from covid and first hand experiences covid effects and the severity of the conditions it brought me, i find you to be the same as those that believe the earth is flat.

                • +5

@easternculture: Myself, my wife and most of my friends are doctors. Yes, we saw it with our own eyes. It's your choice to not vaccinate (unfortunately many have died because of decisions you and other similar minded people made). What is sad though is the misinformation you spread based on next to no evidence… #sigh

                  • @AFM7: " (unfortunately many have died because of decisions you and other similar minded people made)."

How so? I recall there were many 'studies' showing that vaccinated people are just as likely passing it on as non-vaccinated. Did a quick google search and obviously it's all censored now, I guess they want everyone to forget…

                    • @johnnytran: You might want to google herd immunity while you're at it. Hopefully influenza doesn't knock you down… Would also like to know what your health background is?

                      • @AFM7: I'm not giving health advice, simply stating facts and I'd rather take my advice from professionals in the field without a bias than regurgitated bs from my GPs who don't even think I need to have a blood test because I live a healthy lifestyle.

I've never had any concerns about the flu, do you live your life in fear all the time? I recall having the flu twice in my life - both times shortly after I opted for the flu shot through work. I look after my health, I haven't even had a cold in over 5 years and if I remotely feel something coming on, I isolate myself to reduce the risk of spreading something. I had covid last year and the worst bit of it was losing my taste for a couple days. The flu I had was worse.

If you're not a healthy individual, live a sedentary lifestyle, are overweight, have other health issues etc. then by all means keep taking your jabs but I don't think you should be accusing healthy individuals that didn't take the clot shot responsible for other's deaths.

                    • @johnnytran: Mate, some early "studies" did get "retracted" for "poor methodology". Leave off with "they want everyone to forget". Some grifters got videos based on retracted studies taken down, sure. But it is well understood that the vaccine is not a magic spell.

Back when the NSW govt was still doing comprehensive testing and tracking to stave off full blown community transmission, they had stats on what proportion of Covid infections led to hospitalization, and what proportion of those went on to ICU or death. Guess what? Of all the Covid cases being tracked, unvaccinated were proportionally much more likely to end up in hospital, and in my age cohort of Covid cases, the incidence of severe (ICU/death) symptoms in hospitalized folks was 6x higher in unvaccinated than vaccinated.

          • +2

            @Chocobros:

            not needing boosters

There are new strains going around, and it's still a bad, bad thing to get for most. Even if for a few days. We are still uncovering long term effects and the damage it causes, though yes, it's highly variable from person to person.

You can choose not to get boosters if you like.

            • @Ademos: Huh? Last I checked it's opt in for boosters now so not opt out…

Not saying covid isn't bad… That's that other oddball calling it a scamdemic. But my point was that when covid first arrived it was a novel virus so we had no form of immunity. Now having had covid we will have some form of immunity. Its like the flu now…

              • @Chocobros:

Now having had covid we will have some form of immunity

That isn't proving reliably true with every new variant, and there have been dozens, as it isn't necessarily true with the Flu from season to season.

                • @Ademos: Proof?

                  • @Chocobros: Is readily available, if you go and look for yourself. Always preferred before you start speaking as an authority, instead of after, but these are the times we live in.

                    • @Ademos: Says the person doing exactly that. Follow your own advice that you preach

                      • @Chocobros: I'm not asking for proof, because I got educated before I spoke. I know it to be true, you're asking if it is. Only one of us is uncertain. Spend your own time, stop expecting everyone else to spend theirs when you haven't made the effort.

                        • @Ademos: I'm not asking if it is true. I am asking for proof because you state things like you are an authority on the matter when in actual fact you aren't.

You have mistaken me requesting proof as being uncertain. It's an easy mistake to make for some I guess…

        • +1

It's because current covid strands are way weaker than the original ones so no one gives a shit anymore. Back then it was causing hospitals to get clogged all around the world.

            • +8

@easternculture: You mean the health system wasn't overwhelmed in Australia after the virus was transmitted widely and 90% of the population was vaccinated.
              Huh.
Must mean the virus that killed a million people in the US was not real. Only possible explanation.

Thanks for helping us out with your research and evidence.

              • @mskeggs: Yep. Apparently Newmarch House was a phone box and Ruby Princess was a kayak to the cooker burrough dweller cohort.

              • -8

@mskeggs: Nah , this was before vaccination started.
First lockdown, alot of hositals were way below capacity and staff forced to take annual leave.
                Second lockdown, the same.

                Then vax started

                • +1

@easternculture: So you were suspicious that the hospitals weren't overwhelmed by COVID a year or more before the virus was common in Australia?

                    • +1

@easternculture: How convenient that you can make baseless claims and accusations but are unable to provide the slightest bit of evidence.

If you want to spread your cooker nonsense, go somewhere else. I get that your family and friends are tired of hearing your nonsense, but we don't want to read it.

                        • -6

@easternculture: I didn't expect this many OzB users to be a bunch of Pro Vax, narrow-minded Sheeple… The media uses the keywords 'sudden deaths' to report theses cases and still they refuse to believe the consequences. Either they're that delusional or refuse to admit guilt for their actions. Unfortunately a lot more will be dropping like flies!

                          • -7

@rexanator619: They already are. When i went to my home country, i was suprised of how many people had died sudden deaths or have new health conditions after the covid vaccine.

Main ones were Vit B12 deficiency (even in young healthy people), upper airway respiratory conditions (appears high number of the population are affected) and cardiac conditions (again in young healthy people).

Here in australia people dont talk openly about their health conditions. But there, they were open when i asked them.

                            • +11

@easternculture: Absolute troll fest going on, complete with "I have proof but confidentiality stops me from telling you."

I was involved at the forefront of the NSW response, and those in the front lines of healthcare in the most frightening periods put in monumental efforts to try to save as many as they could, and manage the critical pieces of hospital equipment that were in dire shortage across the country.

It's insulting to their effort and many that died to imply there was no pandemic and to imply people died in a way that was misrepresented. If you have any proof of any of the rubbish you're claiming, take it to the NSW Coroner and they'll give you all the protection you need (no matter if it's a commercial NDA or any other kind).

But I totally expect you to have zero evidence and to just continue eating popcorn as you bait folks to reply to vague implications and medical jargon-dropping.

PS: Just for the record and back on topic: high percentage Isopropyl Alcohol is great for getting a surface seriously clean of bacteria, etc. ;)

Yes, it’s next to Gordon’s gin at my local

    • Not a branding. It's a slightly more toxic, non-drinkable replacement to ethanol. Originally used as a replacement to ethanol in places with restrictions but now it's an more generic alternative.

  • +3

    $32.91 shipping :/

$9.46 for 5kg to Metro couriers please

        • +1

They've delivered exactly this item six times to me already.

      • +2

Thanks for this, all of these "shipping killed it" type comments made me nearly pass this up. Couriers please kinda suck but $32.86 shipped for 5L of 100% IPA is fantastic; i typically pay around $45. It's a staple in electronics repair and 3d printing (yes bed plate cleaning with FTM but with resin it is used to dissolve the uncured resin).

  • Is this good for hand sanitising?

    • +13

Yes it sanitises all germs, and your hand

      • +5

It is good hygiene to keep your germs clean.

    • +6

Yes, but not just pure 100%, best to mix with around 1/4 aloe vera, they even mention it on the listing:

"Hand Sanitiser: 3/4 cup Isopropyl Alcohol and 1/4 aloe vera gel"

You can find some more elaborate recipes if you google it.

      • Is that what everyone using during covid

        • -2

That's basically what I was making during the covid overreaction. I sometimes added a bit of lemon juice to give it a nicer smell.

        • Yeah I did the same thing.. still have a big vegemite jar with all of the leftover aloe vera gel in it.

    • +3

you should dilute it to make it more effective.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol

      Medical
Rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting pads typically contain a 60–70% solution of isopropyl alcohol or ethanol in water. Water is required to open up membrane pores of bacteria, which acts as a gateway for isopropyl alcohol. A 75% v/v solution in water may be used as a hand sanitizer.[28] Isopropyl alcohol is used as a water-drying aid for the prevention of otitis externa, better known as swimmer's ear.[29]

    • +2

Ignore the joke comments, and the stupid ones. No, it is not good for sanitisation. All sanitisers are a lower percentage (diluted with water) to give the alcohol time / contact on surfaces to disinfect. Pure alcohol evaporates to quickly.

      • Hence is excellent for sanitisation i.e. just dilute it as noted above.

    • yes, it dries the skin , so depends how often you sanitizer your hands.

    • it'll wreck your skin eventually. People used to do it all the time. It's in the MSDS to say no, don't do that. Anyway if you did, you'd get better efficacy by diluting it to around 70% with water.

So don't really think of it for sanitising hands, but for other surfaces, possibly yes if you dilute it a little.

        $30 for 5L.

Great stuff. I don't use any of that off the shelf crap for cleaning. Just use this and water it down a bit and a few drops of dishwash liquid. Cleans everything better and cheaper than your supermarket spray cleaner junk

        • This is very poor advice for many surfaces, and things like leather. It will dry out, crack, dissolve, etc a vast array of finishes and materials.

          • @Ademos: Use your brain. No one with an ounce of intelligence is spraying it on leather, delicate clothes, silk or similar fabrics.
Use it hard surfaces, glass, splashbacks, cooktops, mirrors, car paint prep.

            • +1

@Lt Frank Drebin: So when you said "cleans everything", were you intentionally lying, or simply wrong?
