  • How does the Sony KDL60W850B compare to the SAMSUNG UA60H6400AW?

    Dicksmith $1849
    HN $1696
    JB $1998

    • Way better from what I've heard

    • The Sony has better blacks, easier to calibrate and settings are good out of the box.

  • Interesting the 55" 800b was exactly what i wanted, hopefully tgg can price beat it

  • +3

this panel is in Cnets top HDTVs list for 2014:
    http://www.cnet.com/topics/tvs/best-tvs/

"Sony's wedge-shaped KDL-W850B TV offers better picture quality, albeit for a higher price, than many big-screen LCDs."

i've always used these lists as a reference when suggesting tvs to friends or family.

FWIW I bought this 2 weeks ago from JB and it is a real winner in my mind. I dont know if its because I was coming from a 5y old Sharp 46", but it is a great TV. The default settings need a bit of tinkering, but after that it looks great.

If only I needed a new TV. :P Nice find Trent!

If only my 42" plasma tv would break down already!

    • LOL

I'm in the same boat: I've been daring/willing my 50" Panny to fall off the wall for a year or two now!

$1800 for an UHD is awfully tempting to go and loosen one or two bolts…

  • It's already very good price but I don't know if I should wait for Christmas - if they decide to do the PS4 deal again, then probably you can get a 55" 4K TV plus a PS4 for $2000, which could be a dream deal.

    • only just a dream

    • Same, hoping the PS4 promo comes back soon too. Hanging out to upgrade my bravia.

      • +2

Sony don't need to give away free PS4'S they are flying out the doors and they can't keep up with supply

        • these deals are getting very hard to resist. TRENT based on your experience/point of view is there any reason whatsoever to hold out for xmas and the holidays or would these be as good as it gets for this year? Cheers mate.

        • @TRENT86: Sony aren't giving away free TV's with PS4 purchases…

        • @jas0n: You mean post xmas and It's too hard to tell what retailers will do post xmas.

        • @McFly: what he means is you won't get the deal either way, maybe a different bundle offer

  • Hope sony 55w800 will drop under $1000.

  • Wait for the boxing day sales, price will fall a further 10-20% of current price.

    • As far as I can remember last year they said it was the last intense discounting year and the next few would be more average

  • My 46" Samsung is on its way out…wish it were already done for!

  • Shipping hurts the deal for me ($268). Good luck if you live close :(

    • I read that as "shopping hurts" and I thought I'm with you there!

  • Thanks! TGG beat the KDL50W800B price by $10 (store was closer also :D )

  • i bought the same tv for 14000 dsplay piece from costco

    • +1

      14000

      Bargain!!!

  • Has anyone bought the UA55HU7200, RRP is $3K, so close to 50% off, is there a problem or it just a good deal

    • +1

      It's just an awesome deal

      • It must be a super awesome deal coming from a 4K sceptic ;)

Trick question, this one or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168587

I know the price is higher, but is 3D and it is Sony

        • Yeah I didn't want to put it up but some people seem to want them

    • I am tempting on this TV too, very good price.

    • Why are there no reviews anywhere for this?

      • +1

I think it came out in August this year !!!

I found this link http://www.streamingmedia.com/Articles/Editorial/Featured-Ar…, which is a bit scary.

But I found that this TV should play 4K on Netflix according to this https://help.netflix.com/en/node/2250

        • read somewhere that the minimum bandwidth for netflix 4k streaming is 25mbps so unless you have a really really good connection i wouldn't be holding my breath.

        • @turkz1:
Well, I am hoping that the NBN will come and save the day. NBN is being layed down in the area where I live.

I only used Netflix UHD as an example as the Panasonic UHD wasn't compatible if you read the first article.

      • it should be a new model in 2014,not sure about month though.

  • Sony are definately not giving away any PS4 this year or early next year.
Their Q2 Q3 promo schedule has no mention of it.

  • That's cheap as. My sis bought the 60" in Jul/Aug for just under $2000.
