  • What are the apps on a windows phone like compared to android?

    • Overall there is a huge difference: very few if any banking apps and Google doesn't support windows phone at all (no gmail/youtube/hangouts) but you can get third party apps which mimic them.

New features for the big popular apps are rolled out much later on windows phone compared to iOS and Android. New apps will appear on iOS and Android but not on Windows phone. To get an idea of the problem, just look at ads for apps on TV or in print - do you see the Windows phone logo? Probably not :-(

That being said, I love the UI of windows phone compared to Android as it is much faster with less lag for the same level of hardware :-) The Windows phone UI guidelines are very different than android - some apps just look amazing, are really easy to use, and seem years ahead of the other two OSs.

      • BS, all the banks have windows phone apps and although there are no official google apps, there are unofficial apps for all of Google's services. Gmail and google calendar are supported by the native mail and calendar apps

OK out of interest I checked app support for WP, iOS, and Android from the Big 4 banks. There appears to be an unoffical WP app for Westpac that is just a web wrapper written by someone calling themselves madness_kid but I wouldn't recommend sharing banking details with them.

CBA - yes has a WP app. Last update 4/12/13. Last iPhone app update was 23/10/14. Last Android app update 8/10/14.
NAB - yes has a WP app. Last update 12/8/14. Last iPhone app update 18/9/14. Last Android app update 28/5/14.
ANZ - no WP app. Last iPhone app update 28/8/14. Last Android app update 14/03/13.
Westpac - no WP app. Last iPhone app update 29/10/14. Last Android app update 6/11/14.

I like WP as well but I think that someone entering into the ecosystem should do it with their eyes open and be aware of the limitations.
