Jetstar 2 for 1 Japan Sale - Tokyo $447 Return from Melbourne, $377 from Cairns

2680

Must book for a minimum of 2 passengers.

Various travel periods from Jan to Oct 2015. Dates vary depending on origin and destination.

Examples

  • Cairns to Tokyo $377 per person return
  • Melbourne to Tokyo $447 per person return
  • Gold Coast to Tokyo $451 per person return
  • Cairns to Osaka $351 per person return

Other cities to/from Australia and Japan are available. Refer to website for more details.

It's probably best to treat the "2 for 1" bit as the name of the sale only rather than the idea that one person can fly for free.

  • are those various travel periods noted anywhere?

  • +2

Weird, as soon as I choose two people from Adelaide return, it will only let me choose the Max Bundle on the flight back, making the trip more expensive than before :/

  • :( not luck for me as i can only travel on school holidays.
    anyway, thanks OP.

  • +3

    Some in snow season?!
    You the real MVP, Jetstar.

  • +1

Where are the return airfares at that price? The sale page only shows one way flights.

  • +4

Anyone just receiving a large sign with an error when trying to search for any periods of flights?

    • Yep I have got that error too. Search doesn't work.

    • +2

Yep, but just go back to the normal page and search as per usual and I found flights at about $280 one way, so it works that way.

  • Yeh search doesnt seem to work at the moment. Good to see Jetstar have learnt from the recent previous website stuff-ups.

    • Haha nice one. But seriously though is it SAFE to go there?

      • It is as long as you don't plan on visiting any nuclear powerplants in Fukushima.

    • +4

No it's just you that's radioactive.

  • It's for one-way, and double that for return.

"Fares quoted are one way and only available online. Checked baggage is not included with Starter fares^ but may be added for a fee. All sale and special offer fares available until sale ends or sale or special offer is sold out. Please make sure you read the important information about sale and special offer fares."

    And more…

"Fares are web only, one-way. Starter and Business fares are non-refundable. Limited changes are permitted, charges apply. Availability is limited (not available on all flights or days). Limited availability on public holiday weekends and school holidays. All travel on Jetstar is subject to the Jetstar Conditions of Carriage."

    • +2

You'll get the reduced price when you have minimum 2 people. Then when you add the departing and returning price of the ticket it would match up what OP has posted.

  • it says "sale fares are one-way starter fares", not return

    • +2

      are you jv??

  • Look I will post a positive…radiation suit will be able to claim the TRS on leaving!

  • Found 2 people return Melbourne to Toyko - Spet 30 to Oct 10 - $895.94, So it is possible for return flights.

    • possible… means impossible somehow

    • +6

I don't believe Sydney is mentioned anywhere in the deal.

      • Maybe connecting flight to Melbourne or Cairns.

      • It is listed from the link BigBuddha posted above.

        Can't edit my neg now…

Looking at the week ahead, I can find flights for $260… Brings the total down to $1000. Still not the two for one as we are getting charged for two people.

I think I'm doing it wrong.

        I need to report myself…

      • No no, Sydney's in there (via CNS or OOL)
        http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/special-offers/japan2for1

        • Thanks. It IS in there. I just can't get the 2 for 1 on any dates (on multiple dates). It charges me for 2 people.

MOD: Thanks for taking away my neg.

        • +2

          @bhm133:

The mods didn't take away you neg. Once your comment gets to -6 votes, it gets revoked automagically :)

        • +1

which means yor neg being neg several times more, which make it invalid neg. like maths, neg x neg = +

        • @tightarse: Cool! Didn't know that. Thanks Mr. Automagic.

  • +8

How about for 1 person? Want to solo the country and hopefully return as 2.

    • nice one

    • +2

      Not three or four? ( a son and/or a daughter I mean)

    • +3

Careful. You might return as 3…

      • +1

One not born yet with free ticket!!!

    • the hentai is strong with this one

  • GRRRRRR

FYI some days are not available, I was getting $500 return for 2 but now even though i'm doing the right days its not giving the 2 for 1….. annoying.

" 2-for-1 Fares. Flights Not Available on Thursdays, Fridays & Sundays." its different for other cities

  • +3

Thanks OP. Now I'm heading back to Japan for the 8th time.

    • Any tips for cheap accommodation? :)

  • cant seems to get the 2 for 1 price.. or did i missing anything?

    • Same here - it's not clear at all which dates qualify, which ones don't. Are we supposed to just keep trying different date combinations ?

      • +1

Use month View to see the sale fare days.

    • "When you book your fares, these prices will be displayed and booked at half the total price per person of the lowest non-sale Starter fare."

Sounds like they will charge 2 at 50% rather than 1 at 100% and 1 at 0%.

  • any good dates are gone

  • +1

how come when i do the quote it still shows up as paying for 2 tickets and taxes?

or are the prices adjusted to be half price but still shows up as 2 tickets?

  • Very skill fully lined up so that us people with kids cannot take up the offer, but there are still plenty of cheap flights (just not 2 for 1) so will probably still take them up on the offer :)

    For fellow Melbournians, the 2 for 1 dates are 30 Sept - 24 Oct & 7 Jul - 15 Sep.

  • +2

Adelaide to Tokyo (via Cairns) return $604 for two people

    • Wow, good price. Can you tell me which days? I am from Adelaide too! But I saw the tickets are over 1k per person.Cheers!

    • Pretty good. I need March into April and could only get business class on the way back making it $3400 for two people.

  • +3

dam you kids… :) ahh the good old days when you could get cheap filghts… how i miss you,,,

  • +2

Sigh.. two young kids going to school and stuck to the wife = no Japan.. :(

They really do wreck lives I think..

    • Haha… same.
I could get the end of June and Sep school holidays but only like 3 or 4 days which is not enough. Could make it a week but they'd have to skip school. :D

      • TGIASS.

Thank God I Am Still Single!

      • I think School can wait. (depending on grade obviously)

    • We plan holidays outside of school holiday times. We just came back from NZ, kids missed 2 weeks. School understands it, besides I would tell them where to go if they had a problem.

My parents did the same when we were younger. Why pay double the price just to do it in school holidays, plus if you are like me you are educating your kids while travelling as well and making sure they experience the culture and learn.

But, booking some tickets without the kids, adults week away in Tokyo, yeah baby!

      • +4

'We plan holidays outside of school holiday times.'

Coming from a secondary school teacher of almost 10 years I'd have to say that (depending on the age of your children/number of weeks missed per year) this is likely to have have a negative impact on a child's academic ability. There is a significant link between % attendance rates at school and academic results (both Primary and Secondary).

'School understands it, besides I would tell them where to go if they had a problem'.

        Great philosophy there buddy.

        • Bullshit.

I was the eldest of 4 boys and we all missed a couple of weeks a year for 5 years in a row because my parents used to do the same thing with us. I was grade 6 the first year we did it and grade 10 the last time.

I graduated with excellence awards, won the all-rounder in my senior year, and am now an engineer.

I guarantee that the amount the parents care about their kids education (formal and informal) has a far greater part to play than missing a couple of weeks of school.

        • @ASeawright:

          haha, insightful comment.

In terms of I, I, I; Congratulations, you are clearly an exception to the rule. Your 'success' isn't common; everything in life isn't always about 'I'.

Yes, nutrition, socio-economic background, family love, care and a whole range of factors play an integral role in ability but the statistics are there and aren't 'bullshit' as you've stated.

Look at http://www.telethonkids.org.au/media/472779/final_report_201… (yes, it's only an WA study etc etc) which I think is a well written document.

Maybe do some light reading and come to understand that absenteeism for most students is statistically not a good thing.

      • Yeah, I couldn't fathom taking my kid out of school just so I could save some money on holidays. There's no amount of worksheets that can make up for valuable face-to-face time with teachers and peers.

(Yes I'm a secondary teacher and it also annoys me that I have to cater for these kids in the form of providing a bunch of work in advance, rescheduling assessment tasks etc.)

        • just took my kids prep, grade 2 + grade 3 to middle east, europe and singapore for 5 weeks ( missed 3 weeks of school). I'm with ASeawright.

a good parent, who is supportive of their child's education, will foster their learning.

rawm - your attempt to discuss the statistical relevance of absenteeism on educational growth from that WA study is pointless in this "travel Vs schooling" position which ASeawright is arguing. Absenteeism correlates strongly with economic status. the lower the economic status the higher the absenteeism.

statistics are misdirected for the most part. they are so generalised. they can be swayed to push a popularist (or any) position. people blindly accept them without looking at how they are collected. I dislike statistics for their shallowness and how people accept the "truth of the figures".

how do I know that? well despite my parents taking me out of school for at least 4 school weeks a year through my school life I am some how half way through my second post grad degree where statistical research has been the mainstay (psych thesis to be completed for graduation).

I guess I am an except to the statistics as well. fancy that.

  • Damn, would've been perfect for me if I could get oneway flight from Tokyo - Mel. Its available if I bought a round trip.

  • Well from Auckland to Tokyo return for 2 = $1500 NZD with a bag.

Not bad actually, most of the cost is the Auckland - Gold Coast flight.

    Thanks for this.

have been japan three times, love that country so much!! fantastic food, very clean everywhere, really, far ahead of us!

    • much far ahead from other surrounding Asian countries as well, which make japan more expensive to live in

      • -4

Most Japanese deny Japan is an Asian country, you know that? Unlucky they were not born like westerners. (No offence to anyone, since I have some Japanese friends.)

Friend from Saitama said spending in Sydney is cheaper than Tokyo, so we are poor in deed lol.

        • +7

Spending in Japan is NOT expensive. A friggin bottle of coke here is about 4bux for crying out loud!

        • -2

          @tchi6:

Buy me a whole watermelon in Tokyo please…

      • +6

Japanese is not expensive. Australia is expensive. In addition to that, the yen went to 102 vs 1 Aussie. The whole "Japan == expensive" isn't true at all.

      • +1

japan is far ahead of Australia as well!!! and living cost japan is cheaper than Australia!!!

      • Grog is definitely cheaper over there. Nomihoudai here I come!!!

  • after all the bs fees they put on top 4 adults melb to Tokyo return with 20kg lug for $2100

  • Has anyone found dreamliner flights for the sale fares from Melbourne?

  • Osaka or Tokyo?

    • Tokyo.. Just found the Osaka ones.

    • Kyoto, if you can.

  • What happens if you travel by your lonely self? Will they still let you on the plane if you've bought two tix?

    • Yep. Buy 2 tickets, travel by yourself on one of them, and reserve the seat next to you on the other ticket so you've got room to relax.

      • This is how plus-sized people travel.

  • Did anyone get charged "Passenger Movement" and "Passenger Security" fees? Just wondering what they are…

    • Just airport taxes.

      • Got another fee called "AU Int Passenger SC", thought that one was airport tax

  • I would like to bring my infant son along with us would this promo still work? Or would we need a separate ticket.

    • Jetstar infant fee is about $40, he'll need to be part of your booking as there are limited infant life jackets on board each plane.

      • Cheers

  • Unreal! Got 2 x 30th Jan - 14th Feb for ~$930. Arigatō OP!

  • Any people from Sydney have any luck?

I'm trying to book my departing flight within the sale window, but the price does not get adjusted.

  • Bought tickets from Cairns to Tokyo return for $764. Friends who we will meet there have booked Hobart to Tokyo for $1,037 - excellent prices. (Sept 1 returning on the 16th)

  • +1

    Why not from perth??

  • Sydney to Tokyo $1100 for two people for Sat 7th March to Sunday 23rd March. Extra's we got are
-20kg baggage for one person each way: $108
-Extra leg room for each passenger each way: $180
March seems to have good prices.

  • MEL-OSAKA Late Jan period for $850 per person(baggage inclusive). Good deal?

  • I cant thank you enough OP, nearly bit the bullet last night at $1300 per person in March from Melbourne… just paid the same for the two of us !!! Come @ me sushi

  • Does anyone know if we can sell this ticket to someone else?
Or how much will it cost to change passenger name?

    • "SALE" fare is not transferrable or refundable unless you pay extra for "flexi fare"

      • Thanks for clarifying that.
So, that means I need to pay additional cost for "flexi fare", and does anyone know how much will it be the price?

  • Bought 2 for travel between 18th June to 4th July paid $1044 thanks OP!

  • is February good?
