  • Wasn't available to me.

    I got this message:
You don't have a license to use Office 365 with the user ID assigned to you by your work or school. Ask your admin to assign one to you. If you're an admin, you can assign one to your account.

It might only be working for universities who use Microsoft's services for email and skydrive.

      • You might be on to something.

      • It's not the case. My uni uses GMail, and I managed to grab it

        • They'll have their domain registered under 365, however would've left their MX records set as-is. This would be common practice for a department who is either experimenting/testing the 365 platform or is implementing at least one component provided under cheap/free licensing (usually OneDrive/SharePoint)

Seems to be working with my old UTS email, Is the licence permanent?

    • seems permanent as I see it.

    • how did you make it work with your UTS email? Mine isn't working. (The UTS Email itself though definitely works, I still use it)

      • what actual link are you guys using?? I've tried :
        https://login.microsoftonline.com/login.srf?ct=1416442896&id…

but i don't know what email your logging in as, are you using your microsft account? I have a hotmail

        I've also tried:
        http://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-education

        I'm with UTS btw

      • you have to log in using your [email protected]

        • +1

im missing something fundamental, what password are you using? how are you using a UTS email, when you have not setup a account with password yet??

        • cheers, working now :)

        • @wired00: You don't need to sign up for an account. Your UTS email is your account, as UTS use Microsoft services (behind the scenes). Basically you use your UTS email, and your UTS password!

          @steb89:

Ahhh haha, far out I feel like an idiot, all working now (its just as the standard uts email works of course because it already uses outlook online) but i download my email into a local email client.

Anyway I realised it wasn't working because it wouldn't let me log in with my standard email format ie [email protected] I had to use my [email protected] format. now working fine but yeah, as others have said it seems to just allow access to outlook, both online and via the download

          thanks for that help :)

  • works for me. didnt need but cheers

"Office 365 ProPlus is offered as a monthly subscription. If you cancel your subscription, Office 365 ProPlus goes into reduced functionality mode. In reduced functionality mode, users can open and view existing Office files, but users can’t use most of the other features of Office 365 ProPlus."

I'd be 100% sure before doing anything that might override an existing permanent version.

  • How I miss my university days… maybe I should go back to uni to get cheap software!

    • +1

A lot of Unis now offer .edu.au emails to alumnis — UTS and UOW do.

I've used both for Microsoft EDU offers before.

      • +1

Unfortunately UNSW gave me UNSWalumni.com :(

  • worked like a charm with my uni email!
    thanks

  • +2

Will you get 1TB on OneDrive with this as well?

    • +1

No, you should get unlimited OneDrive storage.

  • nice!

  • Seems too good to be true.

  • You don't have a license to use Office 365 with the user ID assigned to you by your work or school. Ask your admin to assign one to you. If you're an admin, you can assign one to your account.

    No deal :( MQ

    • Hey mate..MQ id does not work?

      • not for students

      • I used my MQ ID. It doesn't work — I can actually login and change preferences, but cannot use Office 365.. I don't think it will work if you have graduated.

    • I get the same error, do you get this when logging in with your microsoft account?

      I get:

      Sorry, that didn't work

You signed in with your Microsoft account ([email protected]).

Sign out of your xxx and sign in with the xxx user ID assigned to you by your work or school. Sign out of your Microsoft account and sign in with the Office 365 user ID assigned to you by your work or school.

    • My mq is working [email protected]

Redirects and tells me to login with [email protected]

      Where 0 = studid

      • +1

i can log in, but i can't get a license.

        • nvm, you are right, I can't get the license, was working on the phone…

          sorry for the neg

  • My current TAFE (TAFENSW - OTEN) uses Google Apps for their student emails. So no free Office 2013 for me.

  • +1

We don't recognize this user ID or password

    for UWA

    • where do you actually get that error? I download the setup run it, try to login with my hotmail account and just gives a random error and crashes. It doesn't ask for my student email anywhere

      • hell i cant get past the page linked by op. If you put a uq email in it'll re-direct you to the uq login page. But for uwa it doesnt do anything and if i put my password in it just says error.

  • anyone @ qut got this working?

(got my old UQ email to work) :)

    • Didn't work with my uq.net.au email. When running setup_en.exe which I downloaded and entering my user id/password I get "We don't recognize this user ID or password".

      • Worked for me at up, just need to use uqconnect.edu.au as the domain.

        • OK thanks. I got past the login using uqconnect.edu.au as the domain instead of using uq.net.au but then I get a screen saying "Configure desktop applications and install updates". On this window it only shows Microsoft Outlook as the application to configure. I have Office 2007 installed on my PC. Are you sure you have downloaded the full Office suite?

    • QUT - from what I can see, it's only a portal to Outlook

  • University of Newcastle: [email protected] seems to work for me :D

  • Got through via mobile on USYD. Will need my computer to try fully

    • I only managed to get Outlook on my account. Let us know if you have any luck getting Word, …etc. to work!

      • +1

OK tried at home. Seems like "Exchange Online (Plan 1)" which means only outlook.. is this due to graduating and not being a student no more?

        • +1

Nope, due to licensing that your uni has/hasn't paid for, or activated against your account. For example, to save licensing costs, they may provide full licensing to faculty and admin staff but restrict student licensing to the lower tier, which is free.

        • UQ shows Assigned Licenses: Exchange Online (Plan 1) for me in Office 365 settings and I can only get online access to outlook as well.

  • Worked for SWIN

  • Worked for UON, got MS for Mac 2011

  • anyone else getting

"Sorry, we can't process your request.

edit: nvm tried again with firefox. Working with unsw zmail

  • Got it but seems to install automagically after downloading a small exe file. How to get the complete installation file?

    • that's it. it's a one click install, it will install the full office.

      • So no way to get the installation files?

        • nope you won't get any, just that small exe file

  • +2

    works for UNSW

EDIT: NOPE only lets you download outlook

  • Works for anyone at fed uni, Although when logging into office once it's installed you'll need to user your student number instead of your name in your fed uni email address. Well atleast i did.

  • UWS - YES

  • +1

    UniMelb - YES

  • curtin - yes

    • how did you get it to work? When I sign in with my email it just gives me outlook :/

  • So I already have Office 2013. Is it worth getting this?

    • +1

When the new Office comes out, you'll be able to update to it free of charge. But at the moment: No, unless you use some of the extra programs on ProPlus.

  • Works for UniSA.

  • +1

    Works for Unimelb!
Thanks so much OP, you rock! :D

  • deakin email works

  • Office 2013 and 365 for free. Sounds good. :D

    MS stuff is useless….
Trying to bribe people to use their crap software so when they go out to work that's all they know. Better staying from these crap

    • +3

Useless? Try industry standard. Flexible. Cheap. And it works.

Good luck finding any established company in the western world using anything other than Office for their work (for good or bad). Thankfully the standard is actually decent and stands up on its own.

    • Seriously! What are using then if not Ms

  • +1

    ACU - works

    • +1

I have a friend who tried theirs and it only offered Outlook

      • Looks like Outlook only after further checking.

        • This is due to the subscription your uni signs up for; most might only have the basic version while in testing, or decide to not pay for the next access tier.

  • Have any UTS students been able to get the full office suite? I tried it on my tablet, and the installer only gave me the option of installing outlook.

  • Curtin Uni works

    • +1

Are you getting full office, I'm only seeing outlook

      • Yea I only got outlook too

        • Same here.

  • +1

    Works with Deakin Uni

  • This should include ulimited onedrive too!

  • La Trobe working. :)

  • I'm with UTS and only Outlook seems to be working. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Monash Uni works, but we only get Phone or Tablet stuff :(

EDIT: Actually, there's literally nothing. For all types of phones/tablets, it says the Office 365 licence hasn't been set up.

  • i get this when i click on any of the 'choose your phone or tablet' services; http://prntscr.com/58keme

    any ideas?

    • If you get nothing, that probably means you have no access to 365.

  • The normal version is 17.4 per month. How does this free one work? Is it like a free month of pro plus or is it forever or until we are out of uni?

    • Normal version is NOWHERE near that much - drop the first digit and you're closer to the mark.

Free until your uni either cancels their 365 subscription, or your account is removed after you leave.

      • Thanks. Good find by OP then.

  • Outlook only for me too

  • did it work for anyone from GU?

  • +1

Can confirm it works with a "@education.nsw.gov.au" NSW student email. Thanks OP!

  • +1

This isn't a bargain - it's a result of the respective school/uni admins signing up their domains to Office 365 (requires a few DNS modifications, that's it; they don't even have to add MX records unless using Exchange).

May be unknown to some though, and if your edu institution does proper account maintenance, you'll only have access for the duration of your enrolment. Probably worth bearing in mind.

    • No, its a result of federating their directory with o365

      • Not necessarily. You can use DirSync to do it which synchronizes credentials without having federation enabled.

    • -1

      Did you even login?
It should use oAuth and allow you to login with your schools credentials.

This has nothing to do with DNS at all…

      • If you can re-read my post, you'll see it mentions that the ADMINS are the ones doing those steps to register their domains with 365.

That part has nothing to do with end users.

        • I did re-read your post and you said all the ADMINS done was make a few "DNS modifications"….. its more involved that that (eg. settings up VMs, VPN to sync creds)

You tried to make it sound like the ADMINS done this in 5 min and downplayed the entire setup. It is definitely not just "DNS modifications", however this might be unknown to some (i.e. you).
