  • This is the ipad mini 1 so there is no confusion. Non-retina screen.

If it comes with iOS 7 don't update to iOS 8. You will be sorry.

  • If it comes with iOS 7 don't update to iOS 8. You will be sorry.

    Why?

    • +3

I had one, no issues with IOS8.

      • +1

Updated my iPad2 (same internals as this iPad Mini 1st gen) to iOS8 and it's running fine. No lag.

      • +2

        Same…

    • +1

The iPad Mini 1 is basically an IPad 2.

The iPad 2 is in its last legs and probably will not get iOS 9. Do a search, the web is full of unhappy iPad 2 owners regarding iOS 8.

      • +1

I got a retina purely because of this. It's old tech repackaged.

      • The web is full of unhappy iPad users on iOS 8. Loading up webpages on my iPad air was slower than my nexus 7 and switching between tabs means reloading pages. That's when it wouldn't crash or randomly restart. WiFi would also crap out all the time. I'd say the only people who are happy with iOS 8, are probably the people who only use iOS.

I won't neg the deal, because this is pretty much the cheapest option for those that need to have Apple, but if you want a good experience, do yourself a favour and buy an air 2 instead. If you want a good experience and can't afford anything better, than I suggest looking at an Android or Windows tablet.

  • And no iPad on Target eBay store this Sunday?

    • i didn't say anything about a Target ebay store

      • You did mention not as cheap as prior ebay deal.

        • Cheapest was $199 del. from an Ebay group deal. Supplied by Kogan so grey stock.

I know the retina is quite a lot more, but its a much better device if you plan to use it daily. I sold my 1 to get the Retina, much better processor, screen, less reflection issues.

  • I posted a deal for iPad Air 2 and got the post removed by administrator for some reason.
bought 64gb air 2 yesterday at Myers. Original price was $739. spent extra $11 for adding the sum to $750. Managed to spilt payment by using 3 AMEX and got the $150 rebates. Will travel overseas soon hence can get GST refund as well. Net cost will be Under $530.
By the way, Myer offers free Smart Cover worth $48 in WA until 7/12.

    • They had $50 off last weekend.

    • +2

it's been removed because it's not a real bargain. it's tricky thing if not wanting to say a bit dodgy practice

      • The Amex myer deal has already been posted.

    • +8

A deal that can only be used by people with 3 AMEX cards and happen to be travelling soon

Yeah no idea why that was removed mate.

  • Goodness, they're still selling this thing? And for $269 no less (on sale). It has the iPad 2's processor, which is ancient by tech standards.

    • +1

But it's still relevant by iOS standards.

You can run Windows 8 with one core and 1gb of ram. Doesn't mean you'll want to.

        • You're comparing apples and lemons :-P

        • Running Windows 8 is a bad idea no matter how many cores or GBs of RAM you have.

Mini has the same ancient guts as the the Ipad2

    • +1

Are Apple actually going to sell all 3 Minis side by side?

      • +3

Yes. So you've got the Mini 1 which belongs in a museum, 2 at a decentish price and the 3 where you pay $130 (!) extra for.. a fingerprint sensor. That's it.

        • At this stage, I'm surprised they don't still sell the iPad 1.

  • If anyone is really thinking of buying this dinosaur, please don't. Everyone above is right in saying this thing belongs in a museum because it's just simply awful. Firstly, this iPad was released a while ago already. It's already 2 generations behind and when it was released, it was already another two generations behind (being equal to the iPad 2 from 2011).

So in reality, this thing is 4 generations behind and if it were any other brand, nobody would ever buy it. If you want a nice tablet at this price point, have a look at the places that still stock a Nexus 7 2013, you get a much more modern tablet, better performance, better screen, construction quality is just as nice and in many ways, it's more Apple-esque than this iPad Mini as it has a high resolution screen.

    • I agree that this is bad value for such an old device, but my problem with the Nexus 7 is those massive bezels, especially at the top and bottom. It needs a serious refresh.

  • You can probably count the pixels on this device just from staring at it

Not to mention your video watching experience is horrible …. This thing cannot play mkvs well

  • +1

I Need a Mini 2 on sale Now gudnamit

  • +5

Terrible price for what is essentially a 3.5 year old tablet (iPad 2 internals).

    • +1

thats why i hunt down a sealed brand new one on dumtree for $200, my wife loves it watching as a video player while on train. Not worth to pay $269 for sure.

  • I sold my iPad air because it ran like crap on iOS 8, I couldn't imagine how poor this old relic would run. The air 2 is flawless though, I think the lack of ram is the main culprit.

  • +1

    Thanks guys.

It was perfectly fine for having my post removed should I did breach some rules. But it would be a good idea for letting people know what has gone wrong or people may fall into the same trap again.

My intention was letting the other users know how to save money in a legal way.

  • I have a mini 1 4g and correct, it was slow until I did the following:

Hold power button and home button for about 10 setonds which will force a hard reset. That fixed it. Now it's only the 512mb of ram that limits the amount of apps that can run before it slows down.

Updating from 8.0 to 8.1.1 may have helped a tiny bit too.

I would not consider buying a min 1, mini 2 would be ok though. The catch for me is that I want one with cellular and they cost $$$. So pls let OB know when a Min 2 with cellular comes on sale. :-)
