  • $7 cheaper just a week ago at Amazon UK

Unfortunately that's expired. A deal is on Amazon US now for those who missed out on that Amazon UK deal.

And currently 22.70 GBP delivered from amazon.co.uk, which is about $42 AUD.

      No bargain.

It is compared to the local aussie prices. Who wants to pay $119.99 for this at Sanity?. No way. Even JB Hi-Fi is asking $84.98.

        • +3

And if Amazon US was local that would make sense.

You're arguing Amazon US is so much better than Amazon UK that you should pay more there?

          @tantryl:

There's not much in it when you take into account that the $44.50 price is taken from the Amazon Currency Converter which is always a bit higher than the banks own conversion rate.

At least from Amazon US if the price goes down within a certain period after purchase you can get a price difference refund from them unlike Amazon UK won't do that.

        • @hollykryten: I haven't changed my mind, this is a pretty standard price, but hey, you seem really personally invested in it so I'll remove the neg.

        • Has Sauron poisoned your mind?

    Zavvi UK has this £19.49 / $35.47 + $0.99 shipping

Also some Zavvi discount codes For further discount. Some that expire 27th November.

Your own deal, 9 days ago it was $7 cheaper, and yet now you can't deal with the fact that Amazon UK is cheaper?!

As has been pointed out above, this is cheaper from Amazon UK

    over 26 Hours

Do these movies really need to be any longer?

  • Not deal worthy, not even a competitive price at $44 anymore…

According to blu-ray.com the BD discs are region free.

Also misleading about the content on each DVD

    No deal IMO

  • Better than JB's… they are asking for a Hobbit arm and an Elf leg for their one.

This is Ozbargain where it seems people neg over even a $1 price difference and ignore the fact that if they were to go to a local Australian retailer they'll have to pay twice as much and even more for the aussie set version.

And also ignore the fact that the UK set is BD Region B locked so you couldn't play it if you have a Region A player which some do but the US set has region free BD discs so they'll play on any player.

Personally i'd rather the US set since given the chance since the BD discs are region free unlike the UK set being BD region locked.

All they're seeing is a miniscule $1 or so price difference and ignore the other facts.

Your deal isn't the cheapest, so not a bargain. Why do you fight so hard on an Amazon UK deal, then next week you're bagging Amazon UK stuff?

And also ignore the fact that the UK set is BD Region B locked so you couldn't play it if you have a Region A player which some do but the US set has region free BD discs so they'll play on any player.

That's just misinformation, and again, why then did you make a deal for the UK version?
The Blu-rays aren't region locked, however the DVDs are on both the US and UK versions.

        You'd make an interesting lawyer!

        • Go tell blu-ray.com that they're wrong then (which they wouldn't be) because it clearly shows Playback Region B locked for the UK box set.

          UK Box Set region coding:

          http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-The-Moti…

          vs

          US Box Set region coding:

          http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-The-Moti…

The UK set was released by a different film distributor (Entertainment in Video) to the US set (New Line Cinema). The blu-ray discs in the UK set and the US set are not exactly the same discs. One is BD region free (US set) and the other set from the UK is region B locked. It's not misinformation it's fact.

          @hollykryten:
sigh ok while the UK set isn't region free, it's the same region as an Australian player

Blu-ray discs may also be encoded with a region code, similar to the DVD region codes; however, the geographical regions differ (please see below).

          Code: Area

A: East Asia (except Mainland China and Mongolia), Southeast Asia, the Americas and their dependencies.
B: Africa, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Russia), Oceania and their dependencies. (Includes Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea)
C: Central Asia, East Asia (Mainland China and Mongolia only), South Asia, central Eurasia and their dependencies.

          So again, stop, just stop

Region B blocked won't affect 99.9% of people reading this, and the remaining 0.1% that have a player from overseas, would know it was from overseas, and would know about any region issues

        • @Spackbace:

Just saying i'd rather the US set over the UK because the US set is not region locked to any region at all. It's a better release. Especially if you've got both a Region A and Region B players you can play the US set on either one it doesn't matter.

        • @hollykryten:

A point you didn't make on your post regarding the UK deal, funnily enough

        • @Spackbace:

I only just found out about it and thought i'd share the information here. People have got the opportunity to grab the US set if they want and don't already have LOTR it's only an option if they want region free BD discs.
