MEElectronics Black Friday Event: MEE What Random Earphone Promotion - US $19.99 + $6 Postage

1050
2014BF

Dear OzBargainers,

Mike here from MEElectronics again, sharing our upcoming Black Friday "MEE What?" Random Earphone Promotion a little early.

For those who have never participated in one before, the "MEE What?" is a way for us to give some of our lowest-ever pricing on select products for the holidays, and hopefully to add a little fun and anticipation to the process for everyone.

As many of you guys already know, we try to deliver the very best value for your money when it comes to headphones and earphones, and for this "MEE What?" we selected our three most gift-worthy earphones. Plus, 1 in every 100 orders will receive our flagship product - the Air-Fi Matrix2 wired + wireless headphone

Link to deal page. Here's how it works-

For $19.99 USD (use coupon code 2014BF) you will receive one of the following earphones, selected at random, in accordance with the listed odds:

Details:

  • ONE Grand Prize per 100 orders; winner(s) determined randomly at time of shipment
  • Color selection varies where more than one color is available; pink generally will not be sent except by special request
  • Products are selected randomly at time of shipping
  • All included earphones feature in-line mic and remote for Apple, Android, Windows Mobile and other devices. Check out our Microphone/remote info page for more info.

Coupon code is "2014BF". Link to deal page. Limit 2 per order. While supplies last. Offer expires November 30th, 2014 at midnight PST

Shipping to Australia is $6 total ($8.95 with an additional $2.95 discount) and does not increase if you buy 2 units (so the total cost is $25.99 for one "MEE What?" and $45.98 for two).

Delivery times vary but are typically between 10 and 20 business days for standard shipping. FedEx shipping is also available and delivers in just a few days.

As always, I will gladly answer any questions as best I can in the comments below. I can also be contacted by private message or by email at mike(at)s2einc(dot)com

  • Noice!

    Edit: When does it start, Friday?

    • Now

    • +1

      The code is already active - we just haven't announced it anywhere else yet :)

  • +1

    I love it when they do this. So much anticipation and excitement

  • I've still got M-Duo's but will jump on this to get a spare pair.

  • +5

    Odds on grand prize win must be pretty slim, with the odds on the other 3 headphones already totalling 100% ;)

    • Mike said the odds are 1 in every 100 so 1%

      • I don't get the negs? It could be 1 per 100, so 0.99% rather than 1% (1/101).

        • The odds on all 4 headphones add up to more than 100%, which is physically and mathematically impossible.

        • @alvian: Could you explain the "physical" bit?

        • @Mic Cullen: I'll be glad to. Use the odds given by mikemeelec and take the headphones out of the warehouse according to the ratios. mikemeelec will be doing the exact same thing come packing time.

          Scenario 1
          D1P: 50% -> 50 units
          M11J: 40% -> 40 units
          M-Duo: 10% -> 10 units
          Matrix2: 0% -> 0 units
          Sum of odds: 100% -> 100 units

          Put all the headphones into a bin, randomly draw out headphones, and record the odds achieved. You will get no Matrix2 coming out of the bin, thus it is physically impossible to get a Matrix2.

          Scenario 2
          D1P: 50% -> 50 units
          M11J: 40% -> 40 units
          M-Duo: 10% -> 10 units
          Matrix2: ?% -> 1 units
          Sum of odds: 10?% -> 101 units

          Put all the headphones into a bin, randomly draw out headphones, and record the odds achieved. The odds will never be 50%-40%-10%-?% due to the presence of an extra Matrix2. Thus mikemeelec's published figures are physically impossible to achieve.

    • +7

      Somewhere between 0 and 1% depending on how many orders we get, meaning if there are 350 orders there will only be 3 Matrix2 units, which is a little less than 1%. Also had to leave room for the possibility that we wouldn't even reach 100 orders (which isn't going to be the case from the looks of it).

      Edit: for the math sticklers, the percentage of Matrix2s will come out of the D1P's 50% :)

    Ordered 2.
    My last 2 from 2 years ago no longer work, great replacement and just in time for xmas :)

  • No discount for Matrix 2 ?

    • +2

      Amazon.com will be running a lightning deal on them soon, and I'm not supposed to compete. If there's still interest in a sale from us after that, I'll do one in early December.

      • +1

        umm, do you know what is the URL for the lightning deal? is it cheaper than the previous promotion here (ie.84.99 including shipping) ? I have been checking amazon and your site since last 2 weeks. :p

        • Will have to double-check tomorrow RE: date and price. The sale price will be shown on the regular Matrix2 page while the deal is active.

        • @mikemeelec: thanks mike ! appreciate it . will check tomorrow

        • @Counterpain: It'll go live on Amazon on 11/27 at 2:50PM PST (so Sydney time that's 11/28 at ~10AM).

        • @mikemeelec: thanks mike , any idea on the pricing? is it "secret"? :P

        • @Counterpain: I can give an approximation but I don't know what Amazon charges for postage to Australia. Probably will be somewhere in the $65-70 range before postage.

        • @Counterpain: Just in case you didn't get in on the Amazon promo, put up another one of my own here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173717

    Rolling the dice again. Thanks Rep.

  • Working now, awesome

    • Code worked for me just then. Have purchased a few sets now and have been quite happy with sound quality for the price.

  • I just used it though?

  • +1

    will the mic and remote work with android and iphones?

    EDIT: just saw the link in description for this issue

  • +1

    Dunno, last pair of MEElectronics headphones i got through here fell apart within a month of use.

    • Did you contact them about that? You could have just got a dud pair?

      • I did not, I probably should have

    • +8

      That's definitely not typical and there is a 1-year warranty on all of our products. Just send us an email and we'll replace it.

      • I don't suppose that applies to death by cat? I know the sound quality is great, but your earphones must be delicious too! Our cat managed to chew through the cables on 3 of the 4 pair I purchased during one of your OzBargain promos a year or so ago. Gotta stop using tuna flavoured cables…

        Anyway, good timing for some pre-Christmas replacements. Any chance you've got any promos happening for your M6's (even for additional pairs in conjunction with this or any other order)? For anyone who tends to go fall sleep whilst watching movies on tablets or laptops in bed, the M6's were the most secure, comfortable & unobtrusive earphone I've ever had. It was so refreshing not to wake up with an earbud depressed into my cheekbone or burrowing into my inner eardrum!

        • +6

          I've been pushing for cat-resistant cables but our president is a dog person…

          In the meantime there are two solutions - either buy some spare cables and keep them around the house as cat deterrents, or get wireless headphones!

          As for the M6, there will be a lightning deal on it next Monday on Amazon.com at a really good price (if you subscribe to our newsletter you'll hear about it). If there's still interest after that, I can just price match it here on a small scale.

        • Just FYI, Amazon is running a lightning deal on the M6 for the next ~3 hours at a great price :): http://www.amazon.com/MEElectronics-Sport-Fi-Isolating-In-Ea… . Shipping is about $6 to Australia from what I could tell.

        • @mikemeelec:
          Ah… missed it. Will keep an eye out for the next deal…

  • Perfect timing for my earphones to break!

  • +5

    The OzBargainer's form of gambling.

    • Well said

      I've ordered two, so maybe the odds will be in my favour.

  • How would you guys rate these headphones?

    • +1

      $19.99?

    • +1

      At $19.99 + $6 postage I really don't think it is a must buy item. It comes down to buyer preference as there is a heap of competition in this price range. Or you like gambling to win one of the expensive items.

      eg. OzBargainers have posted deals on:
      $20 Xiaomi Piston
      $5 Philips SHE3500BLK

      Brainwavz has had heaps of sales in this price range too. I'm heavily biased towards Brainwavz as they were my first decent IEM and the build quality of my $30 Brainwavz Pro Alpha has lasted me years and is still going strong.

      • Thanks you saved me from buying this, I do agree Pistons are a good competitor

  • Anyone know if USPS deliver to parcel locker?

  • +1

    Hi Mike, any chance of a code on your air-fi matrix2?

  • Any chance on a shipping deal for the M9P 2nd Generation? I'd rather get a pair of those as this selection doesn't really appeal to me.

    • Would have loved to include the M9PG2 but unfortunately we don't have inventory. We'll have a higher-end earphone deal for Cyber Monday that you might like but unfortunately there won't be one on the M9PG2.

      • Will you be getting more stock of the black M9PG2 before the M9PG2 $19.99 special ends?

        • Yes, but it won't be very soon as we had to stop production of the M9P to fulfill some outstanding orders on other products. Don't want rely on guesswork too much but I would say mid-December is the earliest it could be back.

  • +13

    I'm certainly not negging the deal BUT I have to say it is made less attractive by inclusion of the Crystal M11J earphones. Not because they're no good (I'm sure they are good like all the earphones I've got from Meelectronics over the last few years, including two of these "lucky dip" specials).

    The problem is that (being a male) I'd probably not be so happy to get the Crystal rather than any one of the other three models on offer. I suppose I'm just not much in touch with my feminine side (or perhaps they'd clash with my ear studs). Jus' sayin'

    • Seconding this. They'd make a good cheap Xmas gift though.

    • I reckon the rep should take the crystal ones out of the promotion and up the chances of getting other stuff lol

      • Yeah totally agree I don't want to end up with Crystal earphones.

    • +4

      It's a fair criticism.

      We decided to include the Crystal in the interest of not running out of stock quickly and/or having to offer 90% of the same model for a "random" deal. I did take out the pink colors, if that's any consolation :). Guys do buy the gold and silver Crystals, but not everyone can pull off that look.

      In the end, the ideal situation is, like Merlict said, that you will be able to put your haul to use as an inexpensive stocking stuffer if you don't want to use it yourself, but we're certainly not billing this as a no-lose proposition if you absolutely hate the idea of the Crystal earphones.

      There will be a Cyber Monday deal on more "manly" earphones that hasn't been finalized yet, but it won't be in this price range.

    • Should have read the deal better got stuck with the crystals. FML

  • +1

    Are the earphones produce good sounds ? I bought Air-Fi Journey last time (saw good review) and the sounds quality was horrible (bass and treble were awful). I have M11-SL and I love it (been using it for long time now). I just don't want to waste another $30 after Journey.

    • The Journey is an earbud (non in-ear) headphone and unfortunately it has a natural disadvantage in bass and treble compared to proper in-ears that seal, and also compared to larger headphones.

      The Crystal (M11J) is based on the old M11 and the EDM D1P is based on the popular M9 so you shouldn't have any of the same problems with these.

      By the way if you found the performance of the Journey unsatisfactory for the price we could have exchanged it for you or figured something else out - all you have to do is send us an email and we'll work with you.

      • Thanks Mike. I did send an email but I wasn't being offered at the time. Beside it was months ago.

        Does it mean all the air-fi model will have the same sound quality as journey? If not, can you suggest which one that is good?

        • The Journey is our only earbud-style headphone, wired or wireless. If you move to a larger headphone, even the basic AF32 Runaway, you'll get better performance.

  • +1

    Great work again Mike.

  • So the earphones will be posted once the deal ends on the 30th?

    • First ones should start shipping today - we'll probably ship them in batches of 100 as the quantities are reached.

      • +1

        Ok cool. Just purchased one. I'm really impressed with my M-Duo and your customer service. Thanks Mike

        • Thanks :)

  • Mike, still waiting for those Runaway Bluetooth 4.0 upgrade!
    You did mention it was due in November?

    • +1

      Right now we only have the black in the 4.0 variant (check the specs tab on the product page http://www.meelec.com/Runaway_s/409.htm). The rest are either out of stock or still the 2.1 version. We'll make the official announcement once we're at 4.0 for all colors.

      • Sweet!
        Can we expect this for the Cyber Monday deal?
        EDIT: If you could get in a decent discount, might get the Air-Fi® Matrix2 actually :)

        • +1

          I will do a special discount on all the models requested in this thread (4.0 Runaway, Matrix2, X6, maybe other Sport-Fis) next week for OzBargain only.

        • +1

          In case you are still interested, I put up a Matrix2 deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173717

          Unfortunately the new Runaway is largely out of stock so can't do a discount on that yet.

        • @mikemeelec: Thanks Mike! Definitely considering it, but unsure if I'll get them. The Runaways I would've got for sure.

          Really impressed with the way you follow up! MeElec should offer you a raise :P

        • +1

          @sanstorm: Yes, yes they should :)

          I'll do a Runaway 4.0 one next year when we have proper inventory. Transitioning has been messy, but it's a better product, especially the battery life and a couple of the "extra" Bluetooth features.

  • Do a MEE WHAT over the ear phones deal and I'm in. Have enough earphones. Also have enough over the earphones, but wouldn't mind more

    • Noted :)

  • +1

    No discount for sports earphones?

    • Not at this time. Can do one in December and there will also be an Amazon.com promotion on them on Monday (our time - Tuesday morning your time).

      • Mike, will the X6's be on sale in December and will they arrive in Australia in time for Xmas?

        • +2

          Good question - didn't think about it in terms of having such an early shipping cutoff what with international post and all.

          I think I will to an OzBargain special for some of the oft-requested sets (X6, Matrix2, maybe Runaway) next week so that they can arrive on time to be used as gifts.

        • Posted here just in case you're still interested: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173717

        • +1

          @mikemeelec: No kidding I just came on ozbargain to check if the deal was on, only to find the deal was posted 6 minutes ago. Love your work Mike!

        • @z00m: Good timing all around :)

  • Feedback: Dear MEElectronics, with regards to the sports earphones it lists features such as "engineered for runners…" and "…noise isolating design". How do those two go together? This would be unsafe of the dangers in their surrounding environment like vehicles, cyclists etc. Providing a bit of outside sound would be more favourable.

    • +3

      Appreciate the feedback! We find that a lot of our customers use them on closed trails and even treadmills, but safety is definitely a concern in other use cases. We do not recommend using any headphones at all when jogging near cars, trains, etc.

      A non in-ear sports model is something we want to develop next year, most likely in a wireless form factor.

  • Thanks.

    Ordered two… Will probably give one for a birthday gift.

    Cheers.

  • all i want is a M-Duo lol..

    what do i do..

    • +2

      Wait for Cyber Monday…

      • do we know what price range it would be at :P

        • +1

          Not sure, but definitely higher than this promo.

  • +1

    Hi Mike, if we buy two, are they likely to be the same or guaranteed to be different? (: Thanks.

    • They are picked separately so it is possible you'll get the same ones. I guess there is at most a 25% chance that both will be the same type of headphone (and an extremely small chance that also they'll be the same color).

  • Bah……..I got the ugliest green colour ever

    • same here :(

  • Received shipment email on 29/11, but the status is still stuck on the Shipping Label Created

    shipped via USPS, USPS First Class Package Intl on 11/28/2014

    Just wondering if the tracking system accurate?

    • Hi Mike

      I'm in a similar boat as kumak. I have had this "A shipping label has been prepared for your item at 12:47 am on November 29, 2014 in ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA 91748." for a while and it has been stuck on "Pre-Shipment" status since then.

      Could you please let us know of any updates?

      Thanks for your time.

      • USPS is not very good with updating first class tracking for international mail. Can anyone having this issue PM or email me your order number so I can try to figure out if there's a problem?

        • Just sent you an email Mike, many thanks for the response.

  • +1

    Got the crystal ones - dey be blingin'
