Dell Venue 8 Android Tablet FHD WUXGA 1920x1200 16GB SSD 1GB RAM $199 @ Dell eBay

120

Found the tablet on Official Dell Australia Store @ eBay.
Current price is $199. Wait till Sunday for eBay - 20% off Top Retailers and Big Brands (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170606) and the price will drop to $159.2, hopefully.

Not very familiar with this tablet, but there are some pros:
good screen resolution
Micro-SD Card Reader
Genuine Dell Warranty

1G RAM is a drawback.

  • as long as the price doesnt go up before sunday.

  • Current price $249?

It's $249 on the regular Dell site, $199 if you go via the link in the OP which goes to the ebay deal.

      • shows 249 on my mobile.
        199 on pc

  • The resolution is a major step up from the new Venue 7, keep clear of the 7 I had one for all but 5 seconds - I saw the screen and 5 minutes later it was back in it's box.

The prices on Dell website usually update on a Friday, so there is a high change it won't be $199 come Sunday for the ebay sale.

  • 1GB RAM isn't so bad.

For comparison - out of all the iPads, only the Air 2 released this month has more than 1GB.

    • iOS is a bit (lot) more memory efficient than Android though.

    • iOS is typically much more RAM efficient than Android though.

      edit: beaten

    • Yeah and the Air runs like crap on iOS 8 vs the Air 2, lacking ram is the main reason for it.

I would avoid tabs with only 1gb of ram, especially on a tabs with a high res screen.

1GB is plenty of RAM the OS only takes up 1.2GB

    • For comparison - out of all the iPads,

Apples and oranges do not compare. Android has always needed more RAM because of its architecture.
      But yes, 1GB is enough.

        Who said anything about android?

does anyone know if you can upgrade to Lollipop on this?

Seems sketchy, some REP from @dellcares twitter suggested that it would, but then it is written by a low-level tech - there has been no official announcement and not much development on XDA. So no guarantee sadly.

      • thanks!
