  • Nice specs, but 2kg? Oh my!

  • +7

Isn't that an incredibly high resolution for such a small screen? I hope it comes with a magnifying glass.

    • +2

It is very high. I would recommend Windows 8.1 for the scalability as Windows 7 would present it very small. Another thing our customers do is down scale to 1600x900 for Windows and or change it up depending on application used.

      • Nice laptop, but is there any option to downgrade to a 1920x1080 resolution IPS on this model?

        • +2

          http://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-p…

Same laptop except for the badge but they are both based of clevo's. This one has a 1080 IPS matte screen. I own this and absolutely love the screen. The insane resolution they put on these small laptops is quite strange to be honest. Why you would go with screen resolutions past 1080 on a laptop let alone small laptop is a bit beyond me.

        • just plug in a monitor, great HD output to TV too

        • @kasp:

No super cool special on that though. Just a 240GB SSD. Not bad, but also not 512GB.

        • +1

Yeah but I would rather a 1080 matte IPS screen than a 1800 gloss led any day of the week. However that's preference as I can't stand laptops turning to shit with the sunlight like what happens with gloss screens. Also the performance hit and dicking around you will have to do to get it to run games at 1800 or scale back to 1600 just isn't worth it.

1800 on a 13" monitor would piss you off far too much. I am surprised they offer it to be honest.

          It's also 100 bucks cheaper.

Just my two cents worth - I bought this for use at work (engineering/drafting software) and the resolution is all but unworkable. Even with Windows 8.1 - the in-app icons/etc are either way too big or way too small.
Windows itself scales ok (same obviously can be said for office) but most applications just can't scale properly.

        EDIT
I've since actually sold it to my boss who primarily uses Adobe software and it actually seems to scale ok on them.

  • Would love one of these, but the misses would kill me if I bought it!
That is an insane resolution for a 13" screen, not sure you could run many games at that resolution, even with this setup.

    • +2

I have an Aorus x3plus, which has the same resolution (3200x1800) on a 13.9".
Runs with 6Gb GTX870M dedicated graphics and i7-4860HQ.

I can just say, the scaling makes gameplay at native resolution quite difficult, as text is minuscule and straining. Icons and minimaps in some/most games are way too small for their own good. However, on the off chance that a game has good scaling, the graphics are completely mesmerising. Though, i dont know if the 860M has the horsepower to do such things. As such the best option, even in my situation, is to run games at 1600x900 making it have perfect 1:4 scaling, and run games at Ultra specs.

  • Sorry for being quite a newbie with pcs and laptops, but how much would this originally cost OP?

    • +5

Sure it works out like this:

Standard model is $1399 with 240gb mSATA.
      Upgrade to 512GB Crucial +$100
Upgrade to Intel 7260 AC wireless is +$69

      So normal price is $1568.

Also note that that 'normal' price was our previously discounted ozbargain price from last round.

      • Thanks for the reply op. ^^

  • How much would it be without any Hard-drive? Cheers

    • And also, approximately how much battery life?

  • Intel 7260AC 802.11b/g/n WLAN

Should this not be Intel 7260AC 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n WLAN?

On top of this, i'll note that i personally have a bad experience with this wireless adapter. Due to AC-wireless 'beaming' technology, wireless performance scales more drastically with distance than other wifi technologies, such as n-band.

    • you can set it to just use N if its turning into an issue. I have had to with 1 device.

  • Amazing specs and price. Wish I needed a notebook.

  • +1

I have one of these with the 3200x1800. I run my desktop on 1920x1020 resolution and my games on 1600x900. No problems with the resolution for me anymore. Also, I have the Crucial MX100 512GB also which is highly recommended, which I imagine is the same model being offered here.

    • does it heat up a lot? Wondering cause i need to replace my old laptop which burns like mad.

  • i must resist this!

OZBargain whispers: It's too good to pass this, go on, take the credit card out………

  • Can I ask if the Ultranote 1080p IPS is going to drop $100 or something soon?
It's getting a little on in time, and hasn't had any drops in a while.

I'd like to order one, but at $899, there are competitors….

Out of curiosity, how does this laptop compare with http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-14-7447-laptop/pd?oc=x5107…?

I got the latter fairly cheap through a deal at work but I had been looking at the Horize ones for awhile.

    Cheers.

    • +1

I would say the graphics card is only real difference, and screen resolution capability

      • 512GB SSD vs 1TB Sata hybrid, HDD expansion options.

    • +1

Higher res screen, better gpu, 500gb ssd and 230g lighter. I'd put my coins on the clevo

      • I was able to get the Dell for about $250 out of pocket. Otherwise I would have waited for this. Thanks for the info!

    • Keef, How cheap did you get your Dell 14 7000?

      • $1260 mate, through Dell EPP

      Yes there is HDMI output.
