  • Looks alright. Needs to find some reviews

I owned one for a week or two. It feel apart and was also very unresponsive from day one, also crap screen. I returned it for a refund from Amazon.co.UK

I then bought a Galaxy Gear which I have and use every day. For this process range have you considered the LG watch that is on sale on the Play store?

Well I've had mine for a year, other than a scratch on the silver frame from falling on it off a bike. It's still functioning as it should.

You might say 'crap screen', I say intuitive, because it's transflective LCD which means sun glare makes it more viewable unlike every other smartwatch with re-purposed phone screens.

So what's the neg for, this is still a bargain.

        • The neg was just a heads up for people to take their time and consider the facts before purchasing one of these. There seems to be a fair discussion going on now and so I've removed it.

        Thanks for the review mate.

      • just want to know, when you returned to amazon uk, who paid for postage?

        • They paid most of the postage.

      • If you care about battery life, this is the best after Pebble. Most will only last one day, including the Gear.

        • That's actually wrong, since the Tozen update the Gear gets 2-4 days depending on how you use it.

  • Battery life for the SmartWatch 2 is not as long as Sony says it is, which is three to four days with "typical usage." I found that I had to charge the gadget up every 24 hours or so with Bluetooth and notifications switched on.

I was waiting for an EC Comment

      • these are the important things that need to be considered before buying a smart watch.

i was looking at buying this, i even returned my pebble back for a refund, but reviews are not that tempting

would prefer the Samsung gear that you posted (DSE deal) over this if i had the choice but still has a poor battery life if Tizen isn't installed

        • 2 days compared to others for what it can do is good, anyway I wouldn't mind charging my watch like I charge my phone every few nights

        • @TRENT86:

The good thing about the samsung is that with Tizen, battery life extends to > 4 days

@easternculture: I don't know where you could get one of those for $99 again? any ideas?

        • @TRENT86:

no, im kinda regreting not buying one from the yatango deal i posted.

        • @easternculture: It lasted about 10 mins before it was sold out, I just didn't realise so they probably had like 2, I'm also regretting it

Would you two like a cosy sofa?

        • @TRENT86:

It lasted till the end of the month when i posted it

        • @easternculture: Kool I don't remember seeing that post, if you see it again let me know

  • Looks not bad for $93, but no internal memory.

  • Is this better than the LG G?

    • No way. Get the LG, this is old hat now and was bad in its day as well.

    • The LG has android wear so may get more development, the Sony 2 doesn't and Sony have now moved to Android Wear with the 3.

It has some limited internal memory to hold apps and widgets. Personally I think the Smartwatch 2 is still quite good and competes with the newer android wear watches. It's good because you don't have to look like an idiOT talking to your watch.
I have both the Smartwatch 2 and 3 so I speak from experience. The build quality is hit or miss. I had two of them replaced under warranty as they died after a month for the first and 3 months for the second. My third is working fine. I think sony fixed the quality issues on the later batches.

If you do get one feel free to download some of my free watchfaces from google play via www.julianjwong.com or search for JJW watchface.

    • You know you don't have to speak to your watch right? You can choose to not speak to your watch, its like an optional use lol. I have the feature on my watch and answer calls but have earphones with mic and don't need to pull my phone from my pocket.
So that said your only positive feedback that you could articulate for the Sony watch is a completely moot point. Even my rather outdated Gear completely wipes the floor with the SW2 in every department. There are many better smart watches than that as well now.

      • I know you don't have to but it is less intuitive to activate apps without speaking to your watch on android wear. It doesn't follow the typical UI you would be used to on your Android phone and instead relies on more voice commands to get things done. Plus you have to drill down several levels to get to the app if you don't want to use voice commands.

Android wear will eventually be a much better choice but if you just want to receive notifications on your watch then the Smartwatch 2 is perfectly fine. It actually also allows you to scroll through and view past notifications and messages whereas android wear dismisses them after you swipe them away. I haven't found a way of getting them back… Plus on the Smartwatch 2 they're categorised by type so you can go back and view sms, missed calls, email, whatsapp, etc. Which is quite useful.

        • Notifications on the Gear are easily read, I haven't got a Wear OS watch yet so can't comment but on the Gear I just give the screen a flick and see I have 8 emails, 4 WhatsApp, 2 hangouts etc. Just click and read so its not difficult at all. As for apps I don't really use them, like you said yourself I use mine for notifications only really. I also have watcher installed so have access to literally dozens of high quality customized watch faces. I'm using the classic Mickey Mouse watch face right now :) (the one where his arms point out the time)
I'd love a new Gear Live, Moto or Nexus watch but tbh mine does everything I want it to right now so I'm very happy with it. Especially since the Tizen update which made it so much more power conservative. I charge mine every two days with heavy usage. It usually has enough charge leftover for another half day or more but I like to have it ready for action.

  • By the way the Smartwatch 2 lasts 4 to 5 days easily. My smartwatch 3 lasts up to 2 days.

  • Can this receive Whatsapp notifications?

  • If this helps, I recently bought a Samsung Gear Live from 20% Ebay (TGG) and I am very satisfied with it.

I think it's more to do with the Android Wear rather than gadget itself however, at least the Gear is stylish and very reliable and responsive.

I'd say go for the LG G Watch deal. This one isn't convincing.

  • SW3 is out btw.

    • Yeah but you will be paying around $300 for it

      • I'm just saying, there's a reason why this model got discounted so low. This is it.

  • galaxy gear (the 1st, upgraded to tizen) still good value but too bad tied to samsung devices.
