    never mind…

  • Is this the successor to U2414 or U2413?

    • It is basically a 16:10 (1920x1200) version of the 16:9 U2414

      • That explains why it's cheaper than U2413. Thanks.

    • +2

It's probably closer to succeeding the U2412.

    • +1

According to TFT Central, the U2415 replaces the aging U2412M.
U2415 has an RRP of $459 (compared to U2412M which is now $419).
U2413 has an RRP of $729.

      • Good. Thanks.

Almost made me regret buying the U2413. Whew!

  • +2

Dayumm, I bought a U2412M not too long ago, good on Dell for continuing to support 16:10 AR screens.

  • Anyone know the successor to the U2410? is it this one? I want to be able to match my monitors.

    • +1

      I think it's U2413.

    • The 2410s used 8 bit panels, these are slightly cheaper 6 bit ones in line with the 2412/13

    • U2413 is the successor to U2410.

A bit confusing. I wish they made their nomenclature a bit clearer.

I don't see the point in spending so much more for a 1200p monitor over 1080p. You might as well just save that little bit extra and get a 1440p.

    • +2

1200p monitors are 16:10 whereas 1080p ones are 16:9. People buy them for the extra vertical screen area. The pixel density in a 24" 1200p and 1080p is the same.

      • If both were exactly 24" diagonally, the 1200p screen would actually have slightly higher ppi.

    • +1

1440p don't usually come any smaller than 27". Some people don't want a screen that big. If I could get 1440p on a 24" I totally would.

      • Dell U2515H. Not available yet though, but should release soon apparently.

Edit: oops, this was from a month ago. Ah well.

  • Are 1080p movies good on this screen?

I don't black bars on the screen, 16:10 will have black bars

    • Even 16:9 will have black bars if the movie has a wider ratio, like 1.85:1, or 2.35:1.

Unless you're going to be watching 16:9 movies exclusively, it's something you're going to have to deal with either way.

Turn off the lights when you watch a movie and you won't even notice the black bars because everything around you is dark also.

      • yeah your right..

I guess the main issue will be with regards to HDTV shows…since those are 16:9

Blacks bars is crap, if you can see the backlight

        • Concentrate on the picture instead of what's around it, and you won't even notice the black bars. The backlight hasn't been noticeable for me.

      • But I think the black bars would be bigger on the 16:10

  • +1

    I'd like a 16:10 2560 x 1600 27" monitor from dell.

Also a note for those who intend to hookup a xbox/ps: Lack of 16:9 aspect ratio option problematic for external multimedia devices potentially

    • +1

I don't know about this model, but I have two 16:10 monitors from Dell including the U2413. It's not an issue at all. Go into the panel's settings and select scaling to 16:9, or 1:1 for aspect ratio, and viola.

      • +1

From what I have read it does NOT support 1:1.

        http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm

So connecting your game console will result in a stretched picture.

        • Does it support 16:9 scaling? I would be very surprised if it didn't.

        • @lostn: Doesn't have a scaler. It is very surprising from dell considering my 2007 27" does but they have been doing this in some of their recent models. It is a shame.

        • @Assassin151: so it always expands to full screen irrespective of source aspect ratio? If so, that's a scaler just not a very customizable one. I'm quite surprised by that.

  • I have two of these monitors and they are awesome. Better picture quality than the 2413 and 2414 as they use a different panel.

    Monitor has:
    2 x HDMI
    1 x mini dp
    1 x dp
    5 x USB 3.0

  • Finally a Dell monitor that has >1080p without the horrendous bezel.

    • tell me about it, these Dell's have a good rep, but their style in the past is so OLD, especially with their big-ass bezel.

  • Anyone have any experience gaming on this one? I know its an IPS but is the input lag noticeable?

  • +1

Tempted but I just can't believe that the U2415 doesn't have a 16:9 mode or 1:1 pixel mapping.

If you plug in a console or set-top box you're going to end up with an ugly stretched & blurred image. Anyone looking for a multi-purpose monitor (PC, game consoles, Blu-ray, cable, etc) may want to look elsewhere.

    • What modes does it actually have? 4:3?
