    Nice price

    • +3

This is cheaper than they are sold for in Brazil. Amazing price!

  • +1

Went into Big W looking for them when they were $9. Unfortunately, the teenager in the department didn't know what Havaianas were, didn't help to look and wouldn't go and find out. I'll pick some up from Aldi. Cheers.

  • +13

They look like any elcheapo thongs you can buy for $5 at Coles. Whats special about them?

    • +6

you can say that for all thongs

    • +5
    • +5

Wholeheartedly agree - they look so basic!

But somehow they just last longer. I'm currently wearing a 2 year old pair in which I glued the bung when it tore out. This was now 6 months ago…

I put it down to witchcraft.

      • +1

Nice, what kind of glue? I have an old pair with the bung slipping out.

        • +1

From memory just the old tube of Tarzans Grip!

      • +2

Bought a white pair around 6 years ago from General Pants for $20. Still works like the day I bought it, just a little discoloured.

      • +3

Same here. I used super glue. Still going strong. I'll pick a backup pair when the time comes.

I don't understand whats so special about Brazilian rubber but they certainly stand the test of time.

        • Bought some nobrand thongs for $1 each 5 years ago, still wearing the first pair and going strong no glue necessary. Still got 9 pairs in different colours as backup if this one breaks.

      • +1

theyre great quality…after i fixed them after they broke ^_^

    • +2

Purely the name, they are the prada of thongs. Nothing even remotely fancy about them. Christ at least make one with a bottle opener built in or something.

      • +1

Have you seen the havianas vending machines?

      • It's not just the "name". It's the durability of the thong and rubber.

    • +1

They are super soft and don't hurt your toes :D

  • +1

    How much are these normally?

    • Hrmm, not too sure buddy, but based on the posts in the past, this looks to be a pretty decent price. Care to help, anyone?

      • +2

Around $20, even in Brazil, where I thought they would be much cheaper. nb. These thongs are made in Brazil, not China.

        • Are they better quality though? I've seen a Havaianas strap broke from the sole after a year of wearing.

        • @delfredo: the straps can break, but usually when they get pulled on something hard, they are the best I've found

  • +4

There normally around the $20 price range

  • +3

It's in the latest catalogue. For men ladies and kids
All I can say is they are good quality. Have been wearing a pair for years

  • +4

I buy the $1-2 ones at the asian stores.

Are these any different? They are also marketed as Haviananas for some odd reason.

They are all rubber though. o_O

    • +2

The rubber in these havianas thongs will last and last, I have a pair from last years Aldi sale and they outlast cheaper thongs I've tried in the past. These are normally $20 from everywhere, even in Brazil!

The basically never wear through, even with backpacker like hikes around South America!

      • If you want a fashion, you don't want it last.

  • This is what we used to call - wait for it - thongs. Bad for the feet but okay for occasional use

  • +3

Look like Kmart thongs… How are they worth the $7 difference?

    • +5

Better quality rubber, lasts longer than cheaper thongs. The KMart thongs are designed to look like havianas, not havianas copying KMart :-)

  • +3

I don't get the love for those things, just for a brand.
I got a pair of these at a petrol station like 8 years back.
    http://reviews.beckyandjames.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/…

The bubbles are soft but ever ever so slightly massaging, they were $10 back when Havianas were $50 or $40 or whatever idiot price the cool kids were paying for them.
    Best thongs I've ever owned.

    • I had a pair of those years ago, but the bubbles eventually flattened out and then the sole wore thin :'(

    • +1

Highest I've ever seen Havaianas was $25 at a local independent surf shop. They're usually around $20. You can find them cheaper if you look hard enough.

      • +3

Back when they first came here like the poster said, they were $40 or $50. That was in the late 1990s.

        • Oh. I wouldn't know I was rocking them Heely's back then ;P

          cringe

  • +6

Bought one pair from the sales of last year and is still going very strong. Bought a Billabong pair when i went on holidays and in one month it has been used up already. Havainas are the best in regards to thongs. The rubber used is of the best grade.

    • +4

why the neg? Seems like a reasonable comment…

      • +2

        Because internet.

  • -5

They are $8.99 too expensive. I'll be wearing my free Rip Curl thongs this summer that I got from here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127157

    • -4

You may neg my comment. But I'm a true OzBargainer. Free all the way!

    • +1

      +1 still got a heap!

      • Right on!

    • +1

      Moronic thinking.

If the Havianas were free you wouldn't say that. No way Chinese made Rip Curls are better than Brazilian made.

      • Free. Mostly you get what you pay for. Mostly.

      • I see your point. If Mercs were $20K we wouldn't be driving around in an old Mazda 323.

        • I'd love a new full optioned out 2014 Merc C Class for 80% off!

      • Until I saw this post, I had never heard of Havianas to be honest. I don't wear thongs that much anyway. Just to the beach. Who cares. They are just shoes…if you can call 'em that.

        • Knew of them back in 2012 or so.

Well now you know. Wear them around the house and short walking trips in summer.

    • Dunno why hamwhisperer's snarky posts keep getting voted up but your informative one got the hates.

  • +1

I never got the fad with Havaianas and wondered wtf is the point since they're just thongs.. But after buying the $9 big w ones.. I have to admit they're very very comfy.. The rubber is soft and thick and the straps don't leave marks.. wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

    • Confused. Are you saying the Havaianas or the BigW $9 ones are very, very comfy etc.

  • Thanks OP, I'll get a pair or two. Maybe some lucky people will get a pair for Xmas!

  • Double pluggers or nothing for me.

    http://www.kvshoes.com.au/Logos_Images/DblePlug/MultiPlug2sm…

been wearing these exact same style for about 30 years at least. Rarely do these break before I wear a hole in the heel. :)

PS, without the dragon embossing on the straps, they're an imposter.

    • You don't like the kmart dpuble dragons for $6? Where do you get the plain ones from?

  • +5

goddamit Aldi cannot get to adelaide fast enough imo :D

  • -3

    I-just-can't-wear-thongs.

I'd feel more comfortable just wearing a 'thong' on the beach.

Everything about them it just wrong.

    • +1

Cool story bro. What happened next?

      • +1

Bro is yank. Thinks thong is gstring in polyester fabric.

        • -2

          Nope. Playing on the name.
Thongs/flip flops are clip clop sweaty rubber plastic unsupportive cheap crap wandering all over the place, with the poor user on top. They look terrible, feel horrible, and are insanely overpriced.

Suited to the poor third world owners who can't go barefoot everywhere, and cant afford more that the $1 the thongs cost.

  • Im camping outside Aldi for these lol…………not

  • wonder if they'll have the Slim ones

    • Yes they do have the women's slim versions

  • +4

Every time people will always post about how these are no different to the ones at Kmart, Bigw, Target etc. I hate brands, but I love quality

These are quality thongs that are relatively comfy and very durable. I buy the $25. These are probably better for the feet than most other shoes like high heels and dunlop volleys.

    • The brand is an indicator of quality. Not sure why you would hate that …

      • +7

Whenever I am looking to buy something casual to slip on my feet, it's always a toss up between thongs, high heels & dunlop volleys.

        • +6

It's a bit of a worry that your name is Luke and you wear high heels….lol

        • @Rich2010: maybe he just likes the way they make his butt look? Lol

      • Brand and quality are not always synonymous.

  • I going to wear one of those cheap $2 ones bought from BIG W to ALDI next Saturday to compare the difference. If they made from more compress EVA rubber, I might buy a couple of them.

  • +3

People seriously questioning whether to spend $9 on these good quality rubber Brazilian made thongs which are normally RRP over $20, even $30 sometimes by saying that $1 or $2 ones from Chinese places are just as good? LOL

Gonna need your OzB card back for even thinking that.

    • +4

The BIG W ones are pretty comfortable IMO. The $2 shop ones are pretty crap, it even hurts my foot by trying it.

      • +1

Not sure how the BigW ones compare to KMart but know they're no good. Soft foam that wears thin after a few kilometres of walking. And lose grip on slightly wet surface much easier.

    • Where to get this oz b card you say? Cant find at all any link on this oz b website? Thanking you!

      • +5

It's the card you present at retailers, that tells them it will be a long checkout process that involves price matching, further haggling, then applying coupon codes, and finally paying for it with discounted gift cards. And of course followed by the 20th trip to Bali that year so to get the mandatory Tourist refund scheme GST back.

It also tells the retailer you never really needed whatever you're buying to begin with. But nonetheless you bought 4

        • +5

Don't forget the quizzical look the cashier gives you when you try to pay in eneloops.

        • @dasher86: One day the Japanese made ones are going to be worth their weight in silver.

And the glittery ones can be also used as fun entertainment toys for toddlers when we're back in the stone age.

  • +2
  • +1

Havaianas don't seem to compress anywhere near as much as some of the cheap thongs, and last a lot longer. I had a pair of FOX brand thongs given to me for christmas a year or two back and they were really bad, sharp bluemetal from the road would pierce through them like butter even after just a few days of wear, Havaianas dont have the same problem.

However, whenever I see these below $10 sales on Havainas they always seem to have very warped straps, not sure if they come good after usage? I suspect they are likely seconds that come in via grey market, I remember a year or so ago that Big W were selling them and local Havaianas distrib in Australia said they weren't authorised sellers, so that's perhaps a bit of a giveaway.

  • +2

The thongs from Rivers are just as good and are always ~$8
    Good range of colours too.
Just recently they had a sale and they were $4!!

    • +1

      Sacrilege!

    • +2

As an owner of both Rivers and Haviannas thongs, you are entirely wrong.

Also, have you never been to a Rivers Outlet? $4 everyday mate!

    • +2

Very very wrong. Rivers thong are way inferior to Havies.

  • They look good on chicks who have pedicures.

  • Available at ALDI Chatswood, 3colors.

  • Which 3 colours? Is it worth actually making a trip to an Aldi for these? I'm only after black.

    • Yep
Colours I saw at my local Aldi
      Black
      Gold/tan brown
      White with blue

  • black, brown, white/blue

  • ladies and kids have a few different colour

  • Ladies are white/pink, brown and black. Men's are black, brown and white/blue. Kids were pink, blue with design and green I think.

  • Cheers all

  • My first pair about 4 years ago never had an issue, they just wore out. 2nd pair got this year and they make your feet black, they give off an odour and they keep coming out the sockets. Audi ones don't come with 3 month warranty. Every other legitimate store you get them from offers the 3 month warranty. You also can't return them as they are in sealed packaging. I was alsoxonensjze bigger in the aldi version things for some reason. So we're a few men and women when I went down this morning.

    • Excuse the keyboard misspelling I can't edit the mistakes sorry. Need a new app for keyboard.

  • Plenty of stock at Aldi Brunswick (Vic). Thanks OP!

  • +1

What's the largest size you've seen at your local Aldi store? I'd need a 13-14.

    • +3

Only men's sizes I saw were US 7/8, 9 and 12. That's not to say there weren't any others, but I couldn't find any.
