  • Got approved and got my singature card with 42k limit. All went well.
Considering whether I should Cheque to self and lay it on my HL for 6months? Anyone with experience recommend this?
Are there any fees relating to the cheque process? Ta.

    • +1

no fees and as long as you dont plan on using the card, its the easiest way to save $ (in your case, the interest on 33.6K based on an 80% cheque to self)

I currently have two credit cards doing nothing but giving me some temporary free $, one with ANZ and one with Citi… as long as you remember to make the required payments and pay it off prior to the end of the interest free period, its easy $ savings for very little effort

      • With ANZ was it an offer for a new or for existing customer?

        • New.. They had an 18 mths promo with 12mths fee free on their platinum card.. You should be able to find it on here as that's where I saw it

        • @SBOB:
existing customer here, not sure i'll be eligible then…

  • Just thought I'd say I got my Signature card also. I forgot to supply income details etc after they rang me but they ended up sending me a card with 15k limit anyway. My Veda score was "very good". Not sure if that info is useful to anyone else though.
Thanks to the OP for posting this up.

  • Well, trying to apply for this card (already got one from citi) but system always throwing the error "Sorry we were unable to generate a VedaScore band". Got latest credit report in dec 2014. However the credit report did not have the score (points). Called citibank (helpdesk) but no solution still getting the same error.

My Q is do i require the detail score to apply for this card? Probably someone could help me.

    Cheers.

    • I had a similar issue when I had attempted to get a score, I realised that the first of my two middle names was only used, so I applied as that.

      Hope that helps.

      • -1

        Hmmm… I don't have middle name.

  • -1

    Hmmm

No matter how many times I try this link I'm still getting the same error message that I've posted here earlier. I don't have a middle name.

Should I be checking with veda or Citi? Please help.

  • I received my signature card with 30.5k balance. not even sure if they called my work to confirm income.. I cant seem to find details about getting a cheque sent out on a portion of the balance.. I assume this is not the same as a cash advance?

Can you just cheque the 80% out and deposit it back before the interest free period and not have any other activity on the account?

    • May I ask what was your credit score? I assume at least VERY GOOD?
Wanted to apply, but my score is only GOOD, don't really want to be given Platinum card (as some say) and have to go through the hassle of cancelling.

    • If you call up the offer should still be on your account and they can process it over the phone. Yes you can, but you'll still have to make the minimum payments on the outstanding balance each month to avoid interested being charged.

  • What's the next best thing for someone without 75k annual income?

    • -2

      a high interest savings account

    • From memory, January is full of great Credit Card offers from the big banks who are preying on those who spent to much at Chrissy. Just be patient and I'm sure something juicy will pop up this month.

  • tip if you have 200k invested with citibank ask your rm for a simplified application form. you dont need to provide full income details nor earn 75k and are pre approved without the stupid veda score. btw anyone with more than one cb signature card account been able to get another priority pass card in the same name?

  • +1

For anyone interested in the cheque to self, I was approved for 50k limit signature. I was only good credit rating. I noticed nothing when I signed up about this cheque/cash to self only the balance transfer offer but continued based on the initial comments here that it would be available.

After phoning them, they have no details of cheque to self associated with this offer just balance transfers, at least for me.

I was hoping to use the 80% for 9 months in an offset before either transferring it back or doing another balance transfer.

There's no other way of getting the money because even if they pay into a positive credit card, it's still cash advance to withdraw.

So if you're planning on doing this just for the cash offset, don't bother!

    • There's no other way of getting the money because even if they pay into a positive credit card, it's still cash advance to withdraw.

If you use internet banking, the cost of the Cash Advance on a CBA card is $2.50 and free for ANZ. (For cash advances on positive balances)

    • they just ask for payment details for where the payment has to be made..
Tell them the account details for your mortgage and tell them its a credit account… Shouldn't be any difference where the $ end up, and how would they know what the account type is?

Cheque-to-self is a balance transfer. At the point where you would normally enter the details of the other card that you want to transfer the balance from, you instead select the option 'cheque to self'. They then debit your card for the amount of the transfer (cheque) and mail you a cheque (note that my experience has been with Virgin Credit Cards - which is issued by Citibank - but not Citibank themselves). It took about 10 days from the date of the debit until I received my cheque, though, and then another few days obviously for the cheque to clear once deposited before you can move the money around.

If you do get a balance transfer, make sure you use the card for purchases (until you've paid the balance transfer amount back in full), make the monthly repayments in full and pay the full balance transfer amount back in full before the expiry of the 0% interest rate period.

After a lot of umming and arghhing post xmas shopping… I finally applied for this card yesterday mainly for a small balance transfer.
My credit report came back as 'Good', they offered me 6 months balance transfer at 0% (not 9 months) along with a $15k limit - mind you they didn't tell me the credit limit on application, I had to send docs and then call to find out today.
But this being said I do have a ReadyCredit loan with them that is 1 year into the 4 year agreement, so 1/4 paid off.
Still okay with this, given my mega deluxe ANZ credit card is going to bill me a $435 annual fee soon!

    • Mind you when I called to check the approved credit limit I asked about a cheque to self option and they said that I have requested to balance transfer $5k to x bank and that I could change that to a cheque to self option… So I assume just make up some bogus figure and fill it out in the balance transfer section of the application then call back and say you want to change that to a cheque to self option.
I think that's the trick as I didn't see a cheque to self option in the whole online application process.

I can't actually find anything saying what type of card this is, i.e. Amex, Visa, MC. There were a couple of slight comments about Amex, but nothing concrete. Can anyone advise?

Also has anyone used the Priority Pass stuff? Curious if I can use it when I'm with my wife and if the 2 visits per year can be used in 1 visit for my wife and I, or if it's 2 separate visits for me, and have to pay for wife.

  • I applied for this last night.

Had someone call this afternoon to confirm my income details and then they called my boss to back it up. They said it should be approved tomorrow morning.

  • For those having trouble with not having a veda score you might try with your previous address. Having recently moved, it seems whatever data they're relying on isn't anywhere near real time. I can generate a score with my old address, but not my new "current" address. No idea where that leaves me - just continuing on with application after using my old address seems a bit dodge - may call Veda I guess.

  • After 4 weeks in progress and providing all the documents, approved for Platinum. What a waste of time.

  • Woah woah woah. Didn't realised I was approved for platinum instead of the signature card which is what I applied for!!! And now one month later got slapped with an annual fee for $199!!! Wtf!!! Talk about bait and switch!

  • Can anyone give me some clarity on how the balance transfer/cheque to self component works?

Do I just pay only the monthly minimum repayment until the expiration date of the interest free period (and then pay the full amount back in one go?)?

    • +2

That's correct. Must make minimum monthly payments. Also, make sure you don't use the card for anything else (purchases, direct debit etc.) until after the cheque to self amount has been paid off in full.

      • why is that?

        • Why is what?

Why must you make the minimum monthly payments? Because you get a statement that asks you to make at least the minimum monthly payments and if you don't you cop a late fee…and if you continue to not make them the account might end up in collections, bad debt on credit rating etc. Trust me. I copped a late fee the first month because I thought "It's not interest free for x months if I have to make repayments". I guess it says interest free, not repayment free!

          or

Why make sure you don't use the card for anything else, other than the balance transfer?
          Because of this (source: http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/balance_transfer…):

How will my Balance Transfer affect my interest free days?

You will not receive the benefit or be eligible for interest free days on purchases unless
you pay the Closing Balance in full every month (including any Balance Transfers).

EDIT: Transactions that go through before the balance transfer should still get the normal interest free days, but per above, anything you use the card for after the balance transfer goes through will accrue interest (@18% or whatever the going rate is!!!) from day 1!!
          End edit

Also maybe this, depending on age of card (same source):

What is paid first, my Balance Transfer or other transactions I make on my account?

If your credit contract was formed on or after 1 July 2012, we will apply your payments to
parts of your credit card balance with the highest interest rate first. If your credit
contract was formed before 1 July 2012 and you haven't asked us to change the order in which
we apply payments on your account, we will apply your payments to the parts of your credit
card balance with the lowest interest rate first.

@Osprey06: thanks for your detailed reply. I was asking why you shouldn't make purchases after the balance transfer. The information page I got with the card says 55 days interests free on purchases.

  • So is the 2 free priority passes still coming with this card? Or was that only for the annual fee paying cards? I already have 2 free with another credit card, I wanted to get this one and get 2 more passes for free each year.

  • My question is addressed to those lucky people who eventually has got this card successfully. Did you buy any package from Veda?

I was unsuccessful applying online and went to the Citibank office to fill in the paper form. After a week they called me back and said that they cannot proceed further as VedaScore isn't available for them. Was quite surprised as I have got my free Veda report in December last year. Called Veda and realised that despite I have a free report I also must buy any Veda package to create my VedaScore. The starter package is $74.95 one off payment for year. Still cheap for that card but it is not actually a freebie stuff. That's the catch ;-)

    • +2

Nope. Didn't have to pay for VEDA score. Applied through the Citibank Veda promotion website. Once I got a "good" VEDA score, a link to the application page was shown on the page.

Got the signature card just before Christmas and attached document confirmed it's fee free.

      • Thanks for reply. I did speak to the Veda customer support again and now it seems that I have my driving license entered incorrectly in their system. Once I tried another number which matches the one in the database it worked and the Veda score is unlocked now. Such embarrassing :) However, it seems worth to get the second opinion as in my first support call another person just tried to sell me their online product instead of fixing the problem.

        • Well done paulu42, your post encouraged me to re-try but this time ensuring that my driver's licence number was exactly correct including upper and lower case characters. Voila! Success!!

  • Got approved for signature card within 3 working days.
cheque to self BT done with no issues as well :).

    • did they call your workplace and request payslips to verify declared income?

      • +1

        Yes they did.
Looks like Citibank are generous with CC limits but also strict with background checks.

  • I applied online on Monday, I faxed the documents on Tuesday, and I was approved on Wednesday! hopefully it is for the fee free Signature credit card, and not some lesser offering.

  • I tried to logon and check Veda score. It keeps on throwing an error message - "This page is currently unavailable.

    Please try again later. "

Just wondering if the original offer was still valid?

    • Seems available when I go to the link/site. Try using another computer/device.

Has anyone worked out how much to need to spend to earn points equal to $100 gift card?

Trying to compare it to my CBA Diamond MasterCard with linked AMEX.
    MasterCard - $14,800
    Amex - $6,200.

No brainer to use the Amex where possible but trying to compare CBA MasterCard with the Citibank Visa.

I still wish they offered the Citibank 5% off BP card.
