  • Veda score not coming up, unable to verify. anyone had this issue? I've made sure the details are correct..

    • My work IP is US IP and Veda score does not coming up.
When I try on mobile phone with Australia IP, no issue to get the score.

Check if you are on Australia IP.

  • Applied and got approved within 3 hours - pretty fast! Thx for posting this

    • -3

Congratulation. Now you have chance to learn how bad their service would be.

  • As a corporate card program PA, my experience with Citi is positive.

  • How do you request the cheque to self? At sign up it asks for balance transfer BPay details etc suggesting they will transfer funds direct to the other credit card account, not send out a cheque to me….?

    • +1

You can simply write "cheque to self" on the form

  • +2

huh, why is my veda rating below average, I never defaulted on anything

    • +1

Like me, probably been applying for lots of Credit Card deals detected thru ozbargain. hehe!

  • So whats the credit card limit ?

  • This might require a bit more than a short answer, but:

I'm assuming they offer you limits according to the limits of your other current credit cards (ie. possible debt)? How likely are they to reject the application based on your other limits? Or will they just give you a smaller limit?

Will applying for a new card soon before you apply for a mortgage affect the mortgage?

  • +2

Just be careful of Citibank. I applied (and got) a previous Citibank so called 'free' credit card, and after a few month, they changed it and forced everyone to pay a one off $100 fee. We tried to get a class action lawsuit happening, but it never got enough traction. There's some stupid clause that allows them to change the terms without notice.

But yeah, Citibank are well known for their 'free' credit cards that become not free after a few months.

    • Is it?
I never received anything like that. But how can they charge when the card was free for life.
But you are right as well, they can change it and then we will have no other option, but to quit.

  • Apparently I don't have a Veda score…how is that possible? I've had Credit Cards with Virgin, HSBC, ANZ, Commbank, AMEX, Citibank, not to mention all the bills associated with my life.

  • Applied but they need like 15 supporting documents.

CBF sending my world to them.

    • Exaggeration Much? All they need is your Drivers License and past 2 payslips…

      • Drivers, passport, two slips and a everification for my employer? What is this.

        • +1

I applied for this card a couple of months ago. They asked me multiple times for my verification documents and I did not get the chance to provide it to them. Two weeks later they sent the card in the mail.

        • +2

A credit card? What were you expecting? This isn't like applying for a library card or a membership from your local blockbusters video…

        • [@ironpaw]The 50K ANZ one all they asked for was drivers, they have set a new standard.(/comment/2445527/redir):

    • They called me up 2 days later and told me they verified without my documents and that I didn't need to send it in anymore.

Lol my score is Average. Too many sign-up offers this year…

      Hi All,

Just applied for CIti and got rejected (I have a platinum card with them already). Went to getcreditscore.com.au and got Average rating. I have always paid all my debt on time. Not sure why but I recently applied for 3 new credit cards and have got all of them approved and running at same time ? Could this be a reason (Hard to understand but I am still paying each credit card debt on time).

Anyways also applied for Veda credit check (Once a year one) which arrives in 10 days and then will look more in details.

Appreciate if anyone can explain how this works ? May be I should stop getting more credit cards (especially the ones offering bonus points on Ozbargain) :)

      Regards

      • +1

It would be too many applications in short period (usually 6 months). I am in same situation as you, though I didn't apply for this offer.

I would recommend keeping Platinum and not applying for any other cards for at least 6 months, hopefully you will get limit increase offer then you could ask them about upgrading you. Better to not keep applying because it will keep affecting your credit score

        • Thanks Kev98,

Shame I didnt know about this till now. I wont apply for any credit card for now. Just waiting to get bonus points for ANZ card in next 3 months and then I would close all credit cards and continue only with one. As for limit increase Citi kept calling me for increase as I had the platinum for almost 2 years now and they will increase the limit without any hastles. And for the signature I am not exactly sure on how useful are the two passes that you get (considering its only Melbourne). Though the 9 month money transfer deal may be of some more value.

          Regards

      • if thats the case then the veda score is pretty stupid

  • so I need to send them all the additional documents…. that's really putting a dampener on the situation…

  • +1

anyone else seeing 0% balance transfer for 9 months on the first page, but after the veda score it's 0% balance transfer for 6 months?

    maybe because im only 'good'?

    • same for me

    • +1

maybe, i got 9 months after a 'very good' rating.

  • Do I need to get the bank account at the end of the application?

    • no

  • LOL on this site i am at VERY GOOD

    https://www.getcreditscore.com.au/

but on Citibank i am at GOOD, two different sites two different scores

    • Same here

  • Cant get the credit score… :(
    Comes up with this text:
Sorry we were unable to generate a VedaScore band
There may be a couple of reasons we were unable to provide a VedaScore band.

    • Same here, for myself and wife.

    • Ditto! I got a score on getcreditscore.com though, so I dunno.. only difference is Citibank asks for a phone number I noticed, and the website didn't

  • so does this card fall under the category of Visa, MasterCard, or Amex ?

    • +1

      its visa

  • Thanks Op. Question related to balance transfer and sorry if it has been answered already;I tried reading all the comments but I might have missed it. Does anyone knows if we can continue to use the credit card and pay the balance in full each month for new purchases without any interest charges

    • +2

      No

      • Thanks mate. I suspected as much

        • +2

Also make sure your card has zero bal when you reqest the bal trf.

  • I don't have a veda score, can I still apply for this card?

  • Urgh, customer support amd manager said I cant upgrade.

Citibank established terms and conditions with veda to provide the offer therefore they arent/wont make any exceptions this time to upgrade.

    • from Platinum to Signature?

      • Yeah, plat to sig

    • Cool, got approved for signature.

  • Getting "This page is currently unavailable." when it tries to do the credit check…

  • My current card gives 6 months interest free for purchases over $250. I couldn't see anything similar on the terms.

For people using this card - does it offer anything similar ongoing, and what are the rewards like? 500,000 points for a fry pan etc?

    Cheers.

    • +1

Best I've found is a $50 JB Hifi/coles voucher for 9,300 points. Since you get 1.5 points per $1, that's about $6200 spend for $50. Or just under 1% reward. It's meh, but still the best in australia

      http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/cards_rewards.htm

      • Why do you say its best in Aus?

        • +2

I've done a whole lot of research. Compared with all others I could find, it's the best deal.

Australians get screwed in CC rewards compared to the US

  • How does one increase their Veda rating/score by 2 points then? Drop a credit card?

    • Not applying for anything in each month I believe. Your score updates once per month

      • backing up what kev98 says, Veda's web site says: "Do your homework before you apply for credit, and only apply for credit when you need it. Making a number of applications for credit within a short space of time can reduce your VedaScore and make you seem less attractive to credit providers."

        • +1

Thanks. Will be checking again in Jan to see if I'm next level.

  • +2

This is one of the best credit cards in AUstralia. I've got the signature. They put stupidly high credit limits on the cards though.

One thing to note, rewards and points in Australia are utterly shithouse. This card has some of the best while avoiding any fees, but even still, you're not looking at very big savings.

Australian's get screwed compared to the US when it comes to rewards.

Oh, and screw Veda. I can't believe that blood sucking company has clawed it's way into the australia system. I have never had a problem with my credit, I just hate veda on principal

  • +2

anyone know how to get the 60K points on signup? I am considering signing up but this will be the deal breaker.

    • It seems that you cannot get 60k together with free fee for life. Either one of them, but not both.

60k pts will cost you $295 annual fee…. please read the previous notes here.

  • Hmmm i can't get veda score with citibank but i can with getcreditscore.com.au. Not sure how can i apply then. I called them of this promotion but seems the CS didn't have a clue.

    • I have got the same issue here…..can get the score from getcreditscore.com.au but not from citibank page….
Does anyone could make this thing work by the way?

  • I used to have a Citibank card also which I ended up cancelling because of the disastrous customer service. However, I am still an ozbargainer and free is free… I am thinking about getting this card and getting rid of the everyday rewards mastercard which I pay an annual fee for.
I am also thinking about giving up on collecting QFF points with my credit cards and moving to velocity as qantas tickets are hard to access and charge exorbitant fuel surcharges compared to velocity. Is my understanding correct that with velocity transfers, I will get 1 ff point for each $1.5 dollar but since they are giving me 1.5 per dollar spent it ends up being 1:1?

  • 15K in points gives you 15K VFF!

  • Just got off the phone with Citibank. I got an email from them saying my application was approved, but when I called to ask for a cheque to self BT, I got told it was a Platinum card. Apparently after I was assessed they decided to give me that instead of a Signature card without telling me, so I lose out on all the benefits. Spent an hour on the phone with them being transferred from one department to another and after I told them I was going to cancel my application since I didn't apply for the Platinum, finally got offered a 12 month BT and a chance to upgrade after 6 months. Can't say I'm too pleased with the Citibank experience. Seriously its like bait and switch, even though I met all their requirements.

    • were you able to use cheque to self with that balance transfer?

      • Not yet, I was told to wait for my card to arrive and then call back and after activation they will issue me with a cheque to self BT with a 12 month 0% rate.

    • Here's my experience with Citibank from the previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/153092?page=2#comment-2251…, something quite similar to yours.

Unless you push, Citibank "out sourced" reps are just robots that work off scripts.

Funnily enough, I haven't even touched this Signature card since I got it, but it's a keeper for when/if my other banks don't want to waive my annual fees in future years =)

      • Yeah, I had to go through a customer relations officer as well, though my limit was 10K and I couldn't get them to upgrade me. But will see after a year to see whether I want to try and get them to upgrade me or cancel it. But now I'm worried that they will start charging me interest for the BT after 6 months, wouldn't be surprised considering your experience with the annual fee charges.

  • can you apply if you dont have a credit history?

  • I applied yesterday to wipe my other card clean which charges a high interest rate. I got rang a few hours after emailing my docs and then got an email a bit later saying I'm approved and my card is on the way. I don't know what my credit limit is but will find out I guess. I thought it all happened pretty quickly.

  • so why is this card so great? you get some points which are redeemable and that's it?

  • +2

Its free, looks good and has priority pass x2 per year entry linked to it
    Rewards program is good.
Online is good and has a good app on phone.
Credit increases and dining…free bottle of wine program

    • Looks good… and feels good.

    • +2

I don't bother trying to claim that highly-promoted "free bottle" of wine dining offer any more.
In two different restaurants I have asked for it and, for my trouble, had the restaurant owner deliver me a lecture as to why they have quit the Citi "free wine" programme.

It seems that the programme is run by a contracted agency (maybe Pinpoint ?) and the deal is that the restaurant supplies an approved bottle of wine to the Citi customer and then invoices the agency for the wine cost. The restauranteurs told me straight that the agency is not paying its bills on behalf of Citibank for the programme - outstanding invoices unpaid for months, and that they could not absorb this.
This is highly demotivating for both the restaurant and the customers.

This happened at restaurants at what would probably be the mid- or budget price range. I suspect that at "fine dining" establishments they make enough profit to just swallow it and not offend the customer even if Citi's agent is not paying its bills to cover the wine.

This kind of thing is pretty typical of Citibank's ability to execute, to deliver what it promises. It's a particularly American style of marketing at the edge of what normal people would consider ethical and good business conduct. Some people might just call it being untruthful in order to sell something.

  • veda called me and asked if i wana get on their $80 plan lol

  • I don't have a veda rating. How do I get one? I otherwise qualify in terms of salary?

  • Approved in 24hrs after the application. That's efficient.

  • Asked for docs, I didn't provide them all. Didn't specify a limit, but I was thinking maybe 15K-ish.. Next minute, approved for 50 K.

    • that's an incredibly high approval limit for initial card… last time this was posted it seemed that the 25-30k mark was about the ceiling (and then based on my experience, plenty of opportunity to increase it after 6mths or so)

      • not sure if it had any bearing on it, but I have another account with them. It certainly doesn't have anywhere near 50K in it though haha.

  • +12

    Everyone, WATCH OUT!

Applied, approved, they rang up and confirmed, today I received the the welcome package.

Right before I activate the card, all I suddenly realise they send me the Platinum card instead attach with $199 annual fee charge at Activation!

Rang to customer service straight away, and after checking with them, they explained that even get approved in the application, they can decide what product they want to provide, which is now a complete different product provided to me without notification.

Obviously they refuse to match the offers that I applied originally.

It just feels like a trap to me, especially I am their customer since 2007.

Watch out when you receive your card, check it throughly!!!

P.S. I cancelled the card at the end on phone after 30 minutes of pointless discussion.

    • Horrible story, cheers for letting everyone know!

    • +3

Yep same thing happened to me. See above.
Although I called up before getting my card (haven't received it yet). They confirmed that I would not get charged an annual fee for the Platinum card though. I still wasn't happy since I was losing all the benefits of the Signature card, after I told them to cancel my card and application they transferred me to a customer relations officer and got them to at least give me a 12 month BT. Apparently the problem was that the min limit for a Signature card is 15K and I was only approved for 10K so rather than just reject the application they decided to just give me a Platinum card.

    • I applied for the card on Wednesday, set the limit to $15K and made sure it matched my Veda information I put in.
Already being a Citibank customer, after approval (within 24hrs and documentation check), I checked what card and limit I was given (through the card activation page) and noticed Signature Visa. I also noticed the $15K limit too on the front page when I signed in.
I'm pretty sure it was $0 annual too, but I'll now have to check this out again because I'm paranoid. Thanks for te heads up on the fee issue.
Not sure how long I'll have the card for, but certainly handy to have on top of my Platinum Edge and Green Amex.

    • Yep, just got my Welcome package and guess what? I have to pay the $199 annual fee. I called them up and they told me that the rep I talked to had revoked the free annual fee to give me the 12 month BT, despite me confirming at least twice that I would not be charged an annual fee. Apparently I can only get one or the other. Told them to cancel my card and thanked them for wasting my time and effort. This is clearly a bait and switch tactic. Be very careful to check what you are getting before activating. Seriously how do they get away with this? How can anyone deal with a bank that is dishonest to its customers? Have all those people who plus voted this deal actually got the Signature card?

    • Add me to the list; I received an annual fee attracting Platinum card in the mail too. There was no acknowledgement throughout the signup process that I'd been downgraded. What a terrible system.

Thankfully it was fairly painless to cancel the card.

  • whats the most comparable card to this for those that cant get it for one reason or another?

  • I'm not sure why I'm receiving this error http://postimg.org/image/fgq9eloub/. I'm suspecting I don't have a veda score because I have no credit card, no loans and living in staff accommodation where they are deducting rent directly through my salary.

Assuming thats the case, whats the fastest way to generate a veda score for myself in time for this promotion?

  • Just got a phone call from VEDA asking to me susbscribe for their credit check alert service ($50 per year). I just applied for once a year (Free) credit report and they started selling this on phone. Not sure how beneficial is this service ?

    • Save your money.
All they are doing is emailing you when there is an update to your credit file.

  • +1

Just like others, received the 'platinum' card with fees etc. When I spoke to customer service I was first told that they don't do the offer anymore of fee free, then after that told my credit limit wasn't high enough for a signature card. Decided to cancel rather than deal with them, screw Citibank for their bait and switch crap. I wonder if we can report them to choice?

    • Happened to me during the promotion in November last year. Applied for signature but was offered the platinum. The platinum was fee free though. But back then the platinum was fee free too. Credit was Aud13500 so not enough for signature.

Got a small raise this year and applied again. Got approved on Friday and just received the card today. Not sure to cancel the platinum or not.

Prob need to talk to someone more experienced who understand that the offer was for a fee free signature card and it doesn't made sense to accept a lesser card with fee.

  • +1

Received the platinum card instead of signature card in the mail, not impressed.
Not right from Citi to send me a card I did not apply for.

Must say I am not impressed with them. The other offers the Citi consultant over the phone offered were
    -1 year fee waiver, or
-12 months 0% balance transfer but still have to pay the annual charge, or
-switch to the free citibank Simplicity card but have no rewards program.

Decided to cancel the card, did not even activate, after 35 mins on the phone with multiple customer service consultants.
It is not right to send me a card which I did not apply for. If I did not qualify for the original signature card, free for life, then my application should have been rejected outright.

  • +1

Just received my signature card today, $0 annual fee and $0 additional cardholder fee are both listed on the letter that came with the card. I'm not sure why mine went through and others didn't - for what it's worth, my VEDA score was "very good" and my credit limit is >$15,000.

  • I have previously asked for an upgrade from my free annual fee for life platinum card since 2007, they said i need up up my credit limit to 15k for them to be able to access. I did that with no problems, but they rejected the free for life request. I then decreased my limit and stayed with the platinum. I'm trying my luck again with this offer, they've called my manager to confirm employment and asked for my payslips already. I'll await and see what card they send me and check the terms and fees properly! thanks for the heads up!

  • Hi all,

Well just wanted to report "CHECK your statements"
I Balanced transferred and statement 2 into 6months had an Interest charge on it after all payments being made within time and starting from $0 on card before balance transfer!
I called, shouted and demanded a refund….this is happening….so just "CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS"

  • I also applied for this. Didn't put a credit limit in the application and they came back with 14k limit and sent me a Platinum card. I now have to send documents for them to do a re-assessment. So i've done that and now waiting to hear back. Won't be surprised if they decline me. Anyone know Julian Potters email address?
