    anyone know what a "steelbook" is ?

      It's a special edition DVD/Blu-Ray case made of metal, usually featuring unique artwork. Lots of people are into collecting them.

    Tonari no Totoro my favourite of all time. Watched that movie as a kid so many times (edit: in cantonese unfortunately)

      My Neighbour Totoro?

      • Yeah, "Tonari no" is basically Japanese for "next to".

          I love that movie. I'm in Japan right now and Totoro toys everywhere! Must resist….

          @clarky:
          Have you gone to the Ghibli museum yet??

        • @clarky: any chance of a small to medium sized totoro if you are coming back to Australia one day?

          My kids love the movies.

        • If you are in Japan, you gotta buy the Inemuri Totoro animatronic toy - it makes breathing and snoring animations!

        • @clarky: Don't resist. I brought back a large one from the Ghibli Museum and have no regrets. Love it!

          @diddy50: the ones I've seen in comic shops in Nagasaki and okinawa are about $20 for a key ring size and about $35-45 for something about size of a large coffee mug, I'll see if there are any cheaper ones in Tokyo. PM your whereabouts :)

        • @greenlantern: I'm spewing. The day I arrive in Tokyo it's closed for Christmas new year break and the day I fly out it opens! I had it on my list :( I'll have to come back another time.

        • @clarky:
          Now that's bad luck, now to wait for a jetstar special to tokyo :)

  • This is good for Ghibli blu-rays

    (but why are they never really cheap? I only buy blu-rays for around $15 or less these days…)

    • Because they are good I suppose. Pixar films never went on sale earlier on. Also I used code WELCOME for first time and it knocked a few dollars off, 10% I think.

      • Well at least you can buy the pixar collection in a huge box that works out to be about ~$5 each when they're on sale. Wish they had a similar compilation set for studio ghibli films.

        • @Elijha: must resist this…

          Maybe when I get a little more money this will be bought.

        • +1

          @Elijha:
          £180.00 ouch

          Might as well buy all 12 steelbooks separately at the price haha, especially since one of the amazon reviews said the disc trays are pretty flimsy.

        • @johnjones8:
          cheaper here: https://www.mightyape.com.au/product/The-Collected-Works-of-…
          too expensive still for what it yes - but as noted above these films rarely seem to drop in price by much.

        • I agree. I have been eyeing off the complete Hayao works but Grave of the Fireflies isn't in it which is my favourite. It's not his, but I like it. I just bought Totoro for now and will look for Spirited Away as well at a good price. And princess monoke.
