  • wow, that 65" is dirrrrt cheap :)

    • +2

Yeah good if you don't want the 70+" :)

  • +1

Just saw this bonus promo for the 55" and 65" models.

Purchase this qualifying Sony 4K TV before December 31st 2014 to receive a Bonus HDD with preloaded 4K Movies valued at $399 via redemption.

    • +3

"preloaded 4K Movies valued at $399"?

5 movies are valued at $80 each? That expire in under 2 years…!

Did they pluck a number out of the air?

      • +1

Yeah probably but Who cares it's a bonus :)

      • You get to keep the Ultra High Speed Hard Drive though. You can download 4K materials off internet, transfer it on the hard drive and watch it on the TV. Mind you you can't just put a 4k piece of video on a normal hard drive and connect it to your 4K TV, it won't work.

        • +2

Why not? Wouldn't a fast USB3 stick have the necessary transfer rate. Even USB2 has up to 60MBps.

  • Isn't 3D useless? I only used once after purchase

    • +4

It's useless if you don't use it, it's useful if you do…

If you're asking if there is any 3D content, there are many 3D Blu-rays and many TVs include some sort of online movie rental application (albeit at a much lesser quality than Blu-rays).

  • +2

got the 55" version and very happy with it; price here is also very good, so go for it if you in the market for something nice.

  • Sony stores have the 55inch uhd for $1493 as part of boxing day sales. Also say they will beat any price.

    • $1949 you mean? and it's out of stock :)
      http://www.sony.com.au/product/kd-55x8500b

      • +1

No, I mean $1493. Sony central emailed me their boxing day specials up to 2nd Jan. Maybe it is only qld stores (Brisbane and Robina) it is in stock at Robina cos I saw it.
        $1.9k is their normal price.

        • In link it shows $2299 is their normal price and the special price is only available @ sony stores, maybe it is only your local like you say

        • @TRENT86:
Strange cos the email says normal price is the 1900 odd and sale is the 1493. No where on the Sony site does it mention the boxing day sale so I assume it is in store only.
Can't link to the email as I am on my phone and it's too hard.

        • @PVA:
I ended up doing a post for the sony centre deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176896

  • I've read previous Sony 4k passive 3D tv's can't display full 1080p passive 3d.
Can anyone confirm that the KD65X8500B is able to?

    • I think a couple previous one's did (not the 55" from what I read) but no idea now.

You'd think this would be something (both Sony and LG) would list in their specs. Pretty poor really.

  • Purchased a Samsung 60H7000 today for $1900 today…one of the best 1080P LCD you can buy… but still feeling just a tiny bit of regret…lol

    That KD65X8500B price is unreal.

    • -2

At my local store harvey norman had a display model today for $1499.00 for this samsung.

      • +7

        How does that help anyone?

        • maybe someone who wants to buy one and is happy to get a Display model and doesnt want to pay $1900?

        • +1

          @furythree:

They would need to know which store?

  • I'm tossing up between the 50" Sony or Samsung 48" UA48H6400AW - anyone want to offer advice?

    • how much is the Samsung 48" and what model num?

      • $898 and UA48H6400AW (Thanks!)

        • +2

Go with the Sony 800B Which is a great quality Series _ it's cheaper & Bigger (That's the only reason), both the 6400 and 800B Are very similar and are pretty much level in series :)Starting to like Sony again after years of average products

        • @TRENT86: Is the Sony 60" KDL60W600B inferior to the 800b's or is 3d the only difference? Seems like the value pick if that's right.

        • @zappa: Some have said they notice a difference in picture quality too but most features are the same yes bar the 3D As you mentioned

        • @TRENT86: thanks for the help, I'll go with the Sony!

        • @TRENT86: We need mythbusters onto this one; I feels like 3D has always been sold to the general public with the promise that it will bring a better panel picture even in non 3D.
I still don't know but I do have a feeling it's all a bit nudge nudge, wink wink, the same as 4K.

        • @zappa: 3D Has never taken off and that's why you now see New TV'S Without it :) It's time to push UHD onto us lol

    • +1

I found this helpful http://www.rtings.com when deciding between Sony & Samsung… Some good Sony tvs but for the most part Samsungs are better.. Hence why they cost more.

  • Go with the Samsung. It is slightly better in terms of deep blacks, contrast and motion rate. I have Samsung H6400AW and Sony x8500. They are very close to each other.

    • +1

yeah I have the Samsung 5000 & 6400 but don't like the smart on the 6400. The 800B & 6400 Have same motion rate 100Hz

    • +1

Deep blacks, contrast ratio and motion? Plasma, please return!

All we have now is LED stop gap crap pre-OLED. 4k is pointless if the pixles can't switch off and give a 'real' black. Hence the forever lasting LED / LCD failure.

      • -1

        I found plasma fans fascinating!
To make the dream come true you got know why plasmas are gone.

        • LED / LCD is some sought of dream is it? Ignorant.

      • I agree. I was disappointed when I compared the contrast of Sony x8500B with Samsung H6400AW; Sony falls short. The Frame interpolation works better for the Sony TV as compared to the Samsung. However, the lag time of the Sony is slightly better. Indeed 4k is only marginally better as most of the content is 2k. I do not use any of the SMART features; only PS4 games and Movies (from my PC via HDMI) are of my interest. I compared playing PS4 games on both these TVs and rarely saw a noticeable difference in terms of resolution when sitting 6 feet away. There are only a handful of 4k movies out there and does not justify the price for the additional money. I think Samsung H6400AW or Sony W850B has the best price values these days.

        • i assume movies via PC you mean downloaded movies. Have you had any problems with the Sony not playing them? Any Cinavia warnings like the Playstations and BluRays have on randon Sony movies?

        • @PVA: Sony can play MKV and MP4 movies when put in usb flash drive or hdd. I have not tried others. I usually play a movie on my PC and output it to the TV via HDMI.

        • @xiaxk:
They have never stopped after 20 minutes because of Cinavia protection? (only some movies have it, doesn't matter what the format is cos it can't be removed)

        • @PVA: I have never experienced 'Cinvavia Protection error'. Probably because I never watched a full movie on the TV using a flash drive or by streaming wirelessly from my PC.

        • @xiaxk:
sorry, my mistake. You said "Movies (from my PC via HDMI)" so I assumed you watch the movies on the Sony.
I occasionally will get it watching a movie thats connected via PS3 to TV or via a movie on my laptop (which goes through the ps3 as well).
Hoping that it is only built in BluRay players and consoles (ps3,ps4,xbox1)- mandatory to manufacturers since 2012, and not built into TVs yet.

        • @PVA: I do watch the movies on my SONY TV which is connected to my PC via HDMI.

  • Where do I enter the code? After filling out paypal? TYh3Pm26

    • enter code @ checkout (Not cart) top right

Can the 4k sets display Netflix 4K and the Amazon 4K services?

  • The Sony 60" KDL60W850B comes down to $1,307.20 inc delivery, which is very good price. From most of the reviews I have read the KDL60W850B is better than the Sony 60" KDL60W600B and about equal to the Samsung 60H7000 in terms of picture quality except for slow smart features and slow HDD access. Since the KDL60W850B is almost $600 cheaper than the 60H7000 it is a better option even with these slight nagging issues. Also I was able to get JB to price match the $1,376 price inc delivery yesterday, so will try the new price tomorrow to see if they can match that.

  • +1

If Videopro are truly expecting stock at the end of Jan, I got mine price matched at Appliance online. They have some left in Vic and delivering tomorrow for me. All up, $998 delivered for the 60"

    • you might as well of got it from jbhifi

      • +1

JB out of stock Victoria wide.

        • God really, wouldn't think that would happen

        • @TRENT86:

So they say, only saw a display at Hoppers Crossing yesterday too.

        • @2jzzzz: oh well you still got a great price

        • JB removed the TV from their website listing.

  • Fortitude valley had 4 60" KDL60W600B in boxes at the front door yesterday as well as a display model. However they won't tell you through webchat as to any stock levels.

You may find that you've been led astray with there being no stock until end of Jan

  • +2

To buy, or not to buy.

That is the question!!!! Argh, damn you OzBargain.

  • Wow, that's $500 cheaper than what I bought it for 2 months ago. AHHHH !

    • How do you like the TV?

  • -1

4K seems too cheap now. I think I'll wait for 8 or 16K

  • anyone who has a 4k tv

can you me how does HTDV, bluray, 1080p movies/TV shows
    look on a 4k TV?

    • Its pretty good. But only slightly better than a 2K TV. A 1080p content viewed on 4K TV is marginally better provided that you sit considerably close to the TV. The improvement factor of 4K TV over a 2K TV is an exaggeration. Of course 4K content is crystal clear on 4K TV only, however it is scarce for now. I sit 6.5 feet away from my 50" 4K TV and do not notice a substantial difference over a 2K TV of same size.

      • Interesting, and here's why:

        • SD content on an SD TV looks fine
        • SD content on a 1080p TV looks like poo

        • 1080p content on a 1080p TV looks good.

        • I honestly would have thought 1080p content on a 4k TV would look like poo

But I guess the interpolation of 1080p -> 4k screens is done a lot better than from SD -> 1080p?

  • wondering I will be able to get HN price match this? or would it be issue that the stores are in QLD? any clues?

    • +1

Probably not as it's using a code, Retailers usually won't price match once codes are used but it's still worth a try :)

    • +3

Just went to my local HN this afternoon and tried to pricematch. When I asked, the sales man was very rude and said to me "you're living in fantasy land". And that's not over, he went away and talked with another guy, mocking me about that.

You can try your luck, but hopefully you won't meet the same kind of sale people as mine.

      • well you could always ask for his name and call his Supervisor; he won't mock you anymore…..

      • +1

I had a similar response a couple of years back (HN watergardens), when I tried to get them to price match a then Xbox360 deal from K-Mart. Guy even claimed that "that OzBargain website is a phishing site", and he said with all the cockiness you can imagine…he KNEW it was a scamming site. I said s'thing like, no it's not!, can you or can't you do it?, he obviously couldn't.
I ended up getting JB at Prahran to match the deal.

@andytruong, knowing the HN set up, little to no chance of getting his supervisor to do or say anything, probably he or his supervisor are the section's franchisee.
Beteer off just lodging a complaint to the HN head office about his experience, telling them how this person mocked a potential customer, just trying to get a pricematch, they do in their advertising claim to price match/beat. Just don't expect to get a price match, just a we are sorry to hear…

      • Harvey Norman is a joke. At least Dick Smith's does actual deals from time to time.

  • Peers, code has expired!… :-(

  • Coupon has expired.

    • Yep was removed an hr ago

  • Has anyone in Brisbane had any luck getting JB Hifi to match $1588 for the KD55X8500B ?

I've been to two different JBs (Garden City and Carindale) but both of them told me it's below their cost price and I should just get it from Videopro. I would accept I have $800 of JB vouchers to use..

  • Is It true that 4k TVS should be atleast 65 inch for notable picture quality in 4K

    Thankyou

    • no.
