Sony HT-CT770 Soundbar + BDP-S3200 Blu-Ray Pack $378 @ HN

60

I've been on the lookout for a soundbar for a while and just got this at Harvey Norman as part of their sales. There was a previous deal from TGG for the same price but this deal includes the HT-CT770 soundbar rather than the cheaper CT370.

Next cheapest for the CT770 soundbar alone was $479 @ Bing Lee and the blu-ray retails for over $100 at most shops.

Note: they come bundled in one very large box that will need a larger car to transport but is easy to fit when broken down as inside is the individual soundbar box, blu-ray box and a large empty space filling box.

Yes everyone has different needs, but for the same price (well, actually less) you get 5.1 instead of 2.1. But depends on room size I guess

    • The samsung ones are pretty crappy. I've got them and not really happy with them.

    • My Samsung home HTE5550W died just after the warranty expired, maybe I was just unlucky.

      • Could be, I dunno. I just know from personal experience really. Got a similar setup few years back, free with our 40", and it's done us very well. We've just got the small rear speakers, which are a PITA with stands etc, the tower speakers would be nicer!

      • Their product perishes precisely, just like Toyota, nothing to do with your luck.

Definitely agree that soundbars are not for everyone. I downsized from a 5.1 system for space saving and an attempt to make the entertainment unit less appealing to my young kids who loved moving the old speakers and pulling cables!

      • So what was your verdict? Do sound bars suck badly compared to a cheap 5.1???

        • +1

I can tell you that it doesn't suck unless you plan on putting this in a much larger (higher ceiling) living room.

This exact unit is used in my apartment and its perfect, I was actually tossing up between this and the LG NB4540 but the blu-ray player trumped it :P.

The Sony won't give a fuller aural 5.1 experience that dedicated speakers can but you'll enjoy the sound boost it gives that native speakers on the TV can't give and there are enough options on here to play around to your liking - Only negative I have with this model is that the on screen visuals on the tv are limited to volume but depending where you put the soundbar you may be able to see the illuminated LCD for the other options, alternatively I've just paired it with my blackberry and use the app.

When compared to cheap 5.1 systems, well that's subjective but I think sound bars have got to a point where advantages of space saving outweigh the cables of cheaper systems, especially in smaller rooms. (I use to own a HTIB 5.1 setup)
The Philips Fidelio Soundbar is probably the best way to get that surround sound some people are after in a smaller package and some of the yamaha models have been getting good reviews but I can't comment on usage as they were nearing the 1k mark and I wasn't willing to spend that amount on a sound bar.

        • From having the system a couple of days I can say for our living room it looks and sounds great. I'm not an audiophile but I think it sounds as good or better than the old system. I agree with punk that for some rooms the space saving outweighs the possible benefits of a 5.1. I also looked at the Phillips Fidelio & Yamaha soundbars which are great but they were outside my budget. This was the best I could find which had plenty of inputs- most cheap soundbars have minimal number of inputs (may not matter to some people but was important for my setup). Overall very satisfied with the purchase!

  • If anyone buys this in the bondi area and wants to offload the blu ray player at a reasonable price i'm interested
