  • Is that Kmart in the title?

OP, can you please comment on the quality of the video it records..both at day time and night time in a few days time. After you've had time to test! Considering buying this if the camera's are of a decent quality.

OP leave your address posted here for a real world test but be warned the first thing that will be stolen will be the DVR

    • Probably VGA res.

      • Aren't the cameras analogue feed back to the recorder?

        Is the HDD USB 2.0?

Does it offer remote access via an app over the internet?

Wonder what the security of the internet firewall etc is like?

        • The hard drive I'm guessing would be a 5200rpm or 7200rpm internal SATA one. Wonder if this DVR has a usb port that allows files to be backed-up to a USB media source.

        • @PLA74: The DVR has a 7200 RPM HDD with a usb port at the front to transfer files

        • @hungho95underscore: Wow, this is great value!!!

just let me know if the video of your babysitter and her boyfriend is truly HD or not.

Actually - just send me the video and I'll study it and let you know. Eventually.

    • The cameras aren't amazing. They work, but greens come out pink, the PQ is a bit grainy and depth of field is poor. For $50 it's acceptable, but don't expect too much, really only suitable for monitoring doorways/entries, not rooms. The DVR is the best part of the deal, even though the video input is analogue. The firmware in it does all kinds of tricks and it can be accessed remotely via both Android and IOS apps.

  • These are VGA res but if you want a higher frame rate you will likely have to drop the resolution to QVGA. So if you want all 4 cameras running at VGA you'll get a low fps rate.

The infrared cameras are only useful over short distances as the IR beams are focused on a small area so for longer distances all you get is a brightly lit "hot spot" surrounded by darkness.

But for $99 its awesome value. Pretty much what I recall swann selling a year ago for $800.

Actually one of the biggest issues with IR LEDs built into the camera is bugs being attracted to the light and flying around in front of the camera triggering motion detection.

The best option is to use an external IR source(s) mounted at least 1m away from the camera. Using multiple IR lights allows you to light up different areas.

At the resolution of these cameras if someone is more than a few meters from the camera they wouldn't be recognisable anyway.

  • Thats a lot of analog cameras for a "digital" video recorder.
You could do better with an old laptop (battery backup), a few USB webcams, and some open-source software.

But for $99 and minimal effort, this will get you going fast.

I wonder about the usefulness of such low-res cameras though. Good to see if that package really was delivered.
Or if the house was burgled by someone you know (maybe). But its not going to ID a stranger.

  • Outdoor cameras?

  • none at Sanctuary Lakes Kmart 3030…

OP - Would u buy and post one of these to me? I'll pay… :)

So I brought this on Monday and on Tuesday it dropped to $50. Being an onbargainer I emailed head office and they agreed to refund my $49. Which makes these cameras a real bargain

  • Found some in Tweed Heads Kmart.
