Also worth looking at. Bulbs are brighter (>800 Lumens vs 600 Lumens). Check google, few comparisons around :)

Via Amazon.com - Comes to about $112 delivered, using Amazons currency converter :) (Comes to $152 delivered for 3 bulbs, to compare to the Philips products in the OP)

    • the philips ones are a little 'smarter' - can change colours.
but at least the JB ones are normal bayonet fitting and no adaptor needed.

    • Different product depending on what you're after. The Philips ones actually allow you to change colours hence the "hue" in it's name. The Belkin ones are just remote controlled bulbs.

      • Belkin ones can "talk" to the Hue ones through IFTTT

    • You can't use USA hue bulbs in Australia as they have an incompatible wattage

      • +4

        incompatible wattage

        i assume you mean voltage

  • +4

    Watt?

  • You need a hub to control every 4 bulbs right?

    • +1

a single bridge can control up to 50 bulbs

  • if you want it bundled with LivingColors Iris($169).. it's better to get it here for $309 delivered, they just increased the price by $9

im building up my Hue bulbs for my new house

  • +8

I'm giving this tech another year to sort itself out and drop in price. It's gonna be a big thing though

  • Love my hue lights. :)

Philips even does a Hue compatible TV with the LEDs behind the screen… Not sure about that though lol

I have six at home at the moment. I've set them up to do some cool stuff like, flash green every 2 weeks on Thursday night to remind me to take out the recycling. They also flash red every time Liverpool score a goal. They also throw a rainbow dance party every time I arrive home. So many other possibilities with IFTTT.

    • what happens when liverpool looses a game? ;)

The lights explode, and I have to buy new bulbs. It's been an expensive season.

        • AT least his dog is not doing somersaults

    • Ynwa!

  • If you're looking to do some DIY stuff I recommend buying the cheaper RF rgbw LED bulbs (< $20 per bulb), which work by adding a receiver to your home network that translates UDP packets to RF instructions for the bulbs. I thought about getting the hue, but the API is slow and you can't manually set the colours at a high frame rate.

    • I'm interested - Got a link for something like this as an example?

      • +5

Yep! I bought mine from here: http://www.limitlessled.com

I used them for a personal dynamic lighting project: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xJPsIOI2TfQ

        • that's awesome work. So the phillips ones are too slow to react to commands to be used for dynamic lighting?

        • +1

          @neohito:

Aye, as per the official documentation (http://www.developers.meethue.com/documentation/core-concept…):

"We can’t send commands to the lights too fast. If you stick to around 10 commands per second to the /lights resource as maximum you should be fine. For /groups commands you should keep to a maximum of 1 per second."

The hue /lights resource only does 1 bulb at a time, so it can be difficult to keep them all synchronised. Whereas with the RF bulbs I could get 20-30 commands per second on 3 bulbs with no issues (and that was limited by the performance of my own code).

        • Amazing! You've just sold me!

        • @XeSSiV: w00t!

its cheaper to buy this than 3 bulbs (bulbs 69 each everywhere). so if you wanted three new bulbs for your existing kit, buy this and then throw the bridge away.

or if you wanted to get a starter kit and 3 globes, just buy 2 starters. haha

    • I read comments that you couldn't do this. The globes in the starter kit only work with the bridge they come with.

  • Absolutely love my Philips Hues, I have them running off the Ambify app to create a disco in my kitchen. :)

  • Thx for the deal OP.
Does anybody know if these Zigbee Milights would work on the Phillips Hue Bridge ?
    http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/new-zigbee-rgbw-milight-led-…
    or just the generic milight
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Milight-AC85-265V-5W-E14-RGBW…

Just ordered 3x milights still waiting for the wifi controller to arrive. For now playing with the rgbw remote
I refuse to pay phillips hue prices since I dont use IFTT that much esp since its a subscription service

    • +2

      IFTTT isn't a subscription service.

      • +1

ooh thx for clearing that up for me.I actually thought I had to pay for IFTTT cause I received an email saying my monthly subscription had ended and it showed all payment plans.Checked my email and turns out that it was just a spam letter from IFTT action from Marvel Universe. My bad.Restored hope on IFTT
IFTT is awesome since its free :D

    • These are the RF bulbs I posted about, and no they won't work! Phillips bulbs connect to the bridge via WiFi, but these just read RF signals.

      • ahh ic. Its a shame though they dont work :(
