Kmart Northcote (VIC) - Samsung Camera WB35F Clearance at $59 but Rings up at $39 (RRP $149)

390

Samsung Smart Camera 16.2 Megapixels (Black), with 12X Optical and Wi-Fi. I don't expect it is that great a camera but relatively cheap. It is on clearance in Kmart for $59 but when purchased it rings up as $39. Other cameras are also available on clearance such as Canon Ixus 145 at $39 - not sure what it rings up as. Not sure if camera is available at all stores.

Edit: 7/1/15 (8:45 am) - Samsung now marked for clearance at $39 (5 left in stock in Northcote). Canon Ixus was marked at $25 but sold out (in Northcote) late yesterday.

Aye, nice one… I guess sometimes the "savvy foot-soldier on the ground" trumps the "online shopper bandit", via the old "cryptic scanneroony reduction" at the check-out…

    YAY for you, Toys-R-Us.

I think he had a cup of Avalanche, going against his morning-only ritual.

  • Anyone know? ,where kmart usually stock up these items near Mobile section or?

    • Obviously… in the Camera section! XD

    • "where kmart usually stock up these items…"

Yep, the Northcote k-mart has their cameras next to the big audio-visual/mobile phone section. In roughly the middle of the back wall.

  • "Ring up"?

    • +2

Is when item is input into cash register. Old cash registers used to make a short of ringing sound when the total was calculated. Aka cha-ching.

  • Anyone checked other stores yet?

  • thanks Op, just bought one at kmart Belconnen,ACT there are still 6 left at around 10.30am. I want a canon one but there are none. The Fuji xp70 there are plenty of stock.

  • mostly soldout. Called up most of the stores in the west melbourne.

friend bought a Fuji FinePix 8600 for $59 at kmart Queanbeyan. I think this is a good price as well

    • Thanks for the heads up on this… got 2 @ $59ea. Still about a dozen still available at K Mart Jesmond NSW 2299 midday 7/1.

      • Could you post a invoice please?

        • Just go to K Mart and buy one.

Anyone got a Canon IXUS 145 for $25? Need a receipt, thanks.

    • confirmed its now $25.. Damn spent $39 on this camera… Can't find any stock though…

      • If i hadn't claimed cashback already i'd return mine :( That being said, stock is probably scarce in brisbane (i bought mine in gladstone when i visited my parents)

        • Because its crap?

        • +1

Nah I'd return it at the front desk and buy another at the new price and save another 15 bucks. Features look to be good and picture quality is fine for a compact (I know someone else with one who took some shots with it). I was happy with the price too - $19 after cash back, but a bit sore on the fact its now $5 after cash back.

        • Found stock at first Brisbane store I rang this afternoon - Cannon Hill. I don't know if there is any left.
Was reported in Canon deal on 28/12 there was no stock there.

          @brucefromaustralia:
Bought a few effectively at $3.75 each. Used ING PayWave - which somehow is still giving me 5% rebate long after offer ended ;-)

      • is there any more left out.
canon or fuji xp70 should also be fine

        • +1

Not at the Blacktown store … I grabbed the last Samsung and 3 Canons. Plenty of Fuji's though

      • Thanks a lot!

      • +2

Hope you've already lodged the Cashback using that receipt!!

      • Luckily my card offers price protection. I will apply to claim the difference.

        Thanks for the receipt.

  • Could anyone upload a receipt for price match please

  • dupe .. ignore

  • I wonder which is the better basic camera: Samsung or Canon?

    • +2

On paper samsung is better - both have a 16mp sensor with wide lens, samsung has 12x optical zoom and higher iso so better in low light i think whereas canon has lower 8x optical zoom. Samsung has wifi connectivity and panorama mode. So more features but for a higher price - some people say 39, some are getting it for 59. Canon is 19 or 5 after cashback so much less. I prefer canon as a brand over samsung, but it probably doesnt matter. Comes down to will you use the features vs price vs what stock is available near you I reckon.

      • Still, after Cashback (& ING etc rebate making Canon $3.75 for me), the $39 Samsung is 10 times the price of the basic Canon. And I couldn't find stock in Brisbane.

        • Do you know if Kmart do a price protection? I bought mine a week ago today at 39 and now its 25. Wonder if a price adjust is possible.

        • @Wilburre:
Sorry, no idea. But you could try.

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Kmart said they can't do anything because they have no stock - even with thatguy's receipt. Does amyone have any ideas? Or should I give up and be happy I got it for 19? :/

        • @Wilburre:
You would have to find a store with stock, buy it, return new camera on old receipt. I've done that when prices have fallen.

There must be stock around. I'll PM you with a Brisbane location to try, or PM me as you have not enabled messages (otherwise the few left this afternoon may be snapped up).

The Samsung WB35F is an awesome little camera. I bought mine this morning from Kmart Maroochydore and they had several left (about 9). It had a clearance tag of $59 but scanned at $39. I have tested out the panoramic function and works extremely well. I have linked my phone and downloaded from camera to phone and back again - works a treat. And the video mode is great to allowing you to record in 20 minute blocks. The 12x zoom lens is a nice addition and is more than suitable for capturing close ups from about 40-50 metres away. It is nice and compact and it also has various recording features and some manual adjustments that let you have a play around. I have taken some shots inside and on the waterfront of Mooloolaba and the pictures are bright clear and crisp. I cannot believe this camera is only $39. I just love the features in such a compact camera. So are there any negatives??? Well if I have to be piccy the time between shots with auto on and taking pictures requiring flash, it takes about 5 seconds to take the next shot……and the plastic casing on the front looks a little cheap, however it feels rigid in the hand (no pun intended). I am using a 64gb samsung card in it and it is working flawlessy. I would highly recommend this camera at this price…nice and compact with heaps of features. If you can find it,,,,buy it.

    Thanks bought 5

    • why?

        for eBay specials, maybe.

So that's why I couldn't find stock in Brissie yeaterday.

  • The Samsung is sold out at Sylvania NSW.

Hurstville has a few Fujifilm S8600 for $59 ticket price, not sure what it will scan.

Urgh… I want the XP70 as an outdoor camera, but Parra is too far.

    • You can have my sealed XP70 for a S8600

      • Bummer. The comment is 1 hour too late. Kmart Hurstville closed at 10pm and likely to have nothing left by tomorrow when I finish work.

        • If you get your hands on one the deal is still one. I bought it as a gift but realized that it would be the wrong one.

        • @dosada:

Got off work not long ago… no chance mate…
2285 got about 10 in stock as per below comment from xywolap

          Goodluck in getting one.

  • dup.

  • Sweet - bought 3 - late xmas presents for the family

  • Bought the Samsung last night, looks like a pretty good camera from the small play around with it I've had so far.

    • Where did you buy yours? Most Brisbane stores had no stock. Any left?

      • Got it from the Logan Hyperdome. They had about 10-12, but people that I showed the camera to from my work bought all the remaining ones this morning haha.

        • Thanks. They weren't dumb ;-)
I only checked as far as Garden City.

        • @brucefromaustralia: Thankfully they were all actual "Oh I need a digital camera!" purchases and not planning on re-selling them.

        • @MrFunSocks:
Got similar reaction when I showed off the $3.75 Canon. But would have liked the WiFi & 12X zoom.

    • Samsung is also good for travel with USB charger. Canon has separate charger & mains cable - adding to weight & size.
Interesting being able to operate phone from smartphone.

      Found 1 today ;-)

      • Remote control can be handy..

  • Compared the Canon with my older 12MP model. Certainly less features, but at $125 (on sale) cheaper…

Took same photo with this & Canon Ixus 220, both at maximum zoom. This camera at 8X (against 5X) made a world of difference. But no optical stabilisation on this model, just software. Great for $3.75 :-)

  • Not what is the best price. what is the better camera: the Samsung WB35F or the FujiFilm S8600?

  • Got the Fujifilm S8600 in North Richmond VIC. 2 left now. Seems a great price, was gonna buy one for my gf for Christmas for $189, ended up getting her a Nikon instead. Would have gone mental if I had bought her this!

  • About 10 of the Fuji S8600 $59 and the Canon Ixus 145 $25 @ Glendale K Mart NSW 2285 today thurs 8/1. No Samsungs.

  • Those thinking about buying the S8600… I own an earlier Fuji camera with the same body style. The S8600 doesn't have a viewfinder. And when you're outdoors, you really do need one. The image on the LCD screens becomes nearly invisible outside in the sunlight.

  • Cannot find any stock in brisbane. Anyone?

  • +1

JB Hifi at the Logan Hyperdome price matched the $39 Samsung for anyone who can't find any stock at a kmart.

  • Only found Fujiflim ones for $59 at my local Kmart. Anyone has luck getting a Canon in WA?

  • Picked up a Samsung from Kmart Tuggeranong (ACT) for $39. They still have some more Samsungs and atleast one Fuji 8600 available. Ask at the counter, the stock is out the back.
    Thanks OP!
