Kogan digital thermometer $5 (was $19, save $14)

……and $2 on ebay (shipped.) $19 my foot. I haven't used them before and with ridiculous marketing like that, I'd think twice about using them in future.

It comes up with Kogan (Hong Kong) in the paypal

        • Clever - Conveniently avoiding paying GST…

      • +5

Months? I'd say the average is about two weeks

        • Guess you didn't buy an iPhone from them ;)

        • +1

@asa79: DrStinge is referring to eBay sellers from hongkong taking 2 weeks. of course kogan takes months which was in your case (I gather) from Bogan.

      • +6

Kogans shipping is relatively fast and ebay sellers from Hong Kong takes months to post to Australia

kogan is shipping is shocking slow. just taking one example: with regards to the usb cable, the kogan web site says "Leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks". then you have to wait for shipping. the chinese ebay sellers are much faster than that

kogan just sells overpriced junk that can be obtained quicker and more cheaply from ebay.

      • Don't exaggerate, they usually only take 2-3 weeks.

  • +2

Not that cheap, the mechanical keyboard is still at $99 when previously it was on sale for $65

    • +1

Was a bargain at $65 though shame they didn't bring it back at that price.
i am using one right now :)

check your emails for a $10 voucher code (entered after checkout).

subject would have been: "Complimentary $10 Gift Card Inside‏"

Kogan is OEM Chinese junk with extortionate prices. Anything labeled with the 'Kogan' brand you can find direct from Hong Kong for a fraction of the price. $9 for a micro USB cable? Rought. They might pay 30-40 cents each for them in bulk from AliBaba.
Unless they have branded products on sale I don't see the fascination with this company.

    • +1

Cheaper than 40c. You can get 1500 for $0.20 and free shipping from some places. Then again they may purchase higher quality cords but still $9 is ridiculous..

    • +1

You're right as kogan buys in bulk and distributes them for $9.Alibaba sells the cables for $0.25 if in bulk. But $1 is okay

    • +7

Name a business that doesn't buy wholesale and sell for profit

      • No one was protesting that they're reselling for profit, we were protesting the outrageous RRP of a Micro USB cable.

Kogan is OEM Chinese junk with extortionate prices.

The vast majority of Australian stores stock Chinese made goods with a significant markup from what they pay. KMart, BigW, Target, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman etc etc etc.

I don't see the fascination with this company.

A simple shop front, predictable shipping times, local return policy, bundled shipping, a (albeit small bit) of customer service that speaks English.

They offer some added convenience at a price. If the price is too high, don't buy. I don't see the issue with a company buying in bulk and selling at a profit…that's a pretty standard business model.

Dick Smith have their no-name micro USB cable at $9.98. Sure you can get it cheaper on eBay (or similar) direct shipped from HK or China, but a lot of consumers will pay for the convenience (faster/more reliable shipping or B&M store).

If you want to cut out the middle man more power to you. I've bought some things from Kogan before because they've been cheaper than other Aussie retailers (eg some of their massagers or a phone car kit) and it's a lot easier than ordering from AliBaba and hoping the goods arrive within 8 weeks, or arrive at all. I wouldn't have bought a $9 micro usb cable, but at $1 with free shipping…not bad. I don't care what they paid in bulk.

      • Are you sure about local return policy?

        • From their website:

In the event that You have a warranty claim in respect of a Product delivered within Australia, you will be asked to return the relevant Product to an Australian support centre.

          https://www.kogan.com/au/warranty-terms-and-conditions/

I've returned things to Kogan before and it's always been an Aus return.

"Stocksale" sale. Items still severely expensive.. can't trust Kogan any more.

  • This chair was $89 free shipping during the Christmas madness, now $110 free shipping.

Stocktake.. really? Isn't all their stuff sitting in China somewhere?

  • Kogan 1800W Portable Induction Cookersave $20 saved, sell price $49. Not sure of price and after Chrismas over but c.c. not in ,….. will wait till hotplate on sale again.

Has any one used these and will you burn ones hands if unit is picked up.

    • +1

Pick up almost anything from Kogan and you get burnt ;)

  • +3

Won't give me confirmation emails for the "free" stuff so why should I trust this company???

  • For anyone interested in the steam mop it was actually $39 for quite a while last year so will probably come down again

    • Has anyone used the steam mop? worth getting?

      • steam mops are only as good as their pads. I got a Black and Decker, threw out their pads and put on microfiber cloths. I change cloths every 10mins use with fresh ones. this leaves no streaks on the floor.

    • $39 + free shipping ?

      • Yes it was, I used my $10 voucher and got it for $29 delivered

Kogan Micro USB is a joke, only last few times plug

    • Threw mine out this morning - faulty micro-USB plug fails to make contact most of time. Come back to find battery empty instead of charged.

  • I bought a micro USB cable from their eBay site for $0.99. This is the normal price…

  • How is this not the biggest bargain here:
Nestle Kit Kat Cocoa Plain 45g $0.01

"and you'll only pay $9.99 for shipping!"

    • +1

How would it be worthy of that title when site only allowed purchase of 1? (Bringing purchase to $10 with delivery)

      • Only useful for those people buying a Kogan Pantry…get a (virtually) free KitKat.

When you see the green trolley icon next to the product title, it means this is a Kogan Pantry product. Add as many Kogan Pantry products to your cart as you like and you'll only pay $9.99 for shipping!

The prices are reasonable, but the RRP is a joke. If they don't want to be known as the Persian Rug Gallery (or Kathmandu) of electronics, they should look at their marketing.
