Automatic Buckle Belt AUD$7.90 Free Shipping Newfrog

720

Headed back to work, I noticed that my belt was a bit worse for wear so naturally I thought to hit up Ozbargain to see what deals were around. Noticed a couple of expired ones from Newfrog and thought I would check out their prices anyways. Noticed two of their automatic buckle belts on sale for cheaper than the expired deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/166340) so jumped on it. Thought I would share with you all.

Never bought belts from Newfrog before although my old belt was an automatic buckle belt bought in China, I like them because they are easy to adjust discreetly, especially after a big lunch ;) They also look good because they show off the buckle without the belt in the way.

You can also see the other styles at http://www.newfrog.com/catalogsearch/result/index/q/Automati…

Note: Change currency to AUD to get cheaper AUD$7.90 price. Originally USD$6.99 ~ AUD$8.64. Credit to triplezzb for point this out.

Note 2: Change currency to CAD$7.62 ~ AUD$7.86 and save yourself another 4c! (if using fee free card e.g. 28 Degrees)

Forget the belt, how about a bit more commentary on your waistline, how does it grow, which foods grow it?

Which foods wear the belt out the most? Whats in the big lunches you have?

Is your waist line linked to your name? (trunk - as in a big storage device) :)

My vice is Chinese food, especially the all-you-can eat buffet kind, but I like to stay classy at such an establishment, so I wear dress pants instead of the smarter option of sweatpants, and hence the belt.

After a lunch date with my favorite restaurant, I end up getting pregnant with a food baby and hence need to readjust the belt so as to not strangle it.

      • lol, totally love your reply <3!

Sadly only goes up to 120cm and I think I can do better than that if I try harder

    • -8

115cm would be enough for 99.8% of people. If your waist is over 105 cm you're most likely diabetic.

      • +12

        and diabetics don't wear belts?

      • Still, the 130cm is the same price as all other sizes. I'd get the biggest you can get regardless of what size you take as you should be able to remove the buckle, cut the belt to the correct size and put the buckle back on. Less chance of getting a belt that is too small that way.

Material: Compound cowhide + alloy (buckle)

that compound reference probably means it's PU leather or similar

    • Most likely considering the price, I prefer to buy a couple for the different buckle styles to change up rather than have one genuine leather one to wear every single day.

      • +1

in theory if they are same size you could move the buckles to the genuine leather one to get best of both worlds

    • +1

they are forsure not 100% leather.. could be bonded. Most probably PVC

Is it cheaper to pay in AUD rather than USD? Google conversion of $6.99 USD is ~$8.55 AUD. If you select the currency as AUD it comes to $7.90 for one.

    • +1

Good point! I normally check that when I buy on sites that offer a conversion, although 99% of the time their conversion rate is crap. It's actually considerably cheaper for this one. Also checked for the trick where some sites give you the AUD conversion but charge in USD at Paypal but it seems Newfrog doesn't do this. Now how to cancel my order and re-order in AUD?
Edit: Appears even cheaper in Canadian Dollars$7.62~ AUD$7.86. Note to pay with 28 Degrees or similar.

  • What does 'Automatic" belt buckle mean? Is this just a the brand name?

    • +7

A normal belt has a number of holes, and some form of pin arrangement that fits into the holes to hold it.

An automatic belt has no holes or pins - instead, it has a hidden "track" on the back side, and the buckle has a ratchet-style clip that engages on the track. To tighten, you push the belt through the buckle and the ratchet prevents the free end from coming back out of the buckle. There's usually a little spring-loaded button to release the belt.

The effect is that instead of having 4 or 5 holes about 25mm apart for diameter adjustment, an automatic belt has 40-50 different diameters only 4-5mm apart- this means you get a more adjustable, comfortable fit around your waist.

      • Automatic buckle is slightly bigger and complex than a plain pin one and I find them to fail soon. Mine broke in a few months (mostly due to pressure against it when you sit/bend forward). I think the buckle where the tail goes inside (than outside) is the best one. You still need the holes and pin, but the end/tail sits inside the belt securely, than getting in the way or coming out of the pants holders.

  • Bought gold last time, still going strong.

Buying the silver this time :)

  • if im a 34/32 what size should i get in cm?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure even 115cm will be long enough, I measured my old one (I'm a 32) and it is considerably less that 115cm. I do vaguely remember when I bought my old one in China the guy just took the buckle off and cut the belt to length and re-clamped/re-attached the buckle, not sure if you can do it with these ones.

      • +1

If you know what you are doing, you can do that with these. I bought 4 and cut them shorter.
The way they packaged them for delivery was bad. The belts came bent due to the way they rolled them up for delivery.
One of the belts: "Mens Classy Automatic Buckle Leather Formal POP Waist Strap Belts 115cm 72085.01" arrived with a QC problem from the factory. This bolt was not smoothed out properly: http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad83/helms123chessphoto/b… causing it to scratch: http://s924.photobucket.com/user/helms123chessphoto/media/sc….
I sent a email to the company outlining the problem and they replied in reasonable time offering a half refund. Being a cheap ass I escalated a paypal dispute requesting a full refund for 1 of the belts. Not sure what happened but paypal refunded the whole thing after review, so I essentially got all the belts for free. What can you say about paypal buyer protection, it works, sometimes too well.
On the whole despite the woeful reviews on the company (see link from other ozbargain member below), i wouldn't say they were too bad. They took a while to deliver, but I expect that from all these type of companies based in china. They replied to my emails reasonably quickly, even offered a half refund as a resolution. In saying this I wouldn't say their customer service was good as they could have offered a full refund on the belt with problems, negating my need to file a paypal dispute. Their loss since paypal refunded everything.
