  • Might want to add the time in your title, i.e. 30 days.

  • Where do they ship from? Australia or USA?

    • Looks like Melbourne

      • Melbourne. I ordered the $37 sim and it came in a hand written envelope. Just a sim card, nothing else. Hope ASIO isn't tracking my mail.

Isn't there something quite nice and nostalgic about handwriitten addresses?

So we can use USA Sim Card here without international roaming? Or is this for people who are planning to go to USA??

Says to be used in USA

Does anyone know if you can Hotspot with a T Mobile sim? would be nice to be able to share the data around..

    • On that website, says you can tether, but limited to 5GB of data through tethering.

    • +1

Tethering is really slow when I tried with this SIM plan, not sure if they actively throttle tethered data. Using the phone, the speed was always quicker.

      • you'd be lucky getting tethering, i was on a t mobile pre paid sim plan and didn't have tethering which sucked :(

    Looks like could be useful.
Heading there for 2 weeks soon thanks to OzB :)

Which 4G band does it use?
Can Telstra brand Samsung S5 use 4G there?
Also is the sim restricted to use on one phone(bind by IMEI)? Some of the Tmobile sim needs IMEI when registered.

    • Google? 1700 and 2100. As for the IMEI read the FAQ on the travel sim direct website.

    • no need for IMEI number, they activate it for you based on your arrival date.

  • My girlfriend has the Note II (N7105 version, the import) and she is heading to the U.S.A. in a few weeks and wants mobile coverage there. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out the bands for all the mobile carriers - does anyone know if this would work with her phone while she visits the U.S.A.?

    Cheers.

    • The N7105 supports Bands: 3,7,8,20

      T-Mobile's LTE bands are: 2,4,12

It's unlikely that the N7105 will get any decent 3G coverage either as the only band that it would support is 2100Mhz (Band 4)

AT&T is much better for us as most Telstra/VF phones support their 3G frequencies. Net10 is a decent prepaid provider from what I read before I went over there.

  • Regarding 4G on T-mobile, they use the 1700/2100mhz AWS band 4 LTE, most if not all of 4G phones sold in Australia don't support this band.

If you get this SIM and uses an Australia 4G phone, you should expect to have 3G/2G only. Some older 4G phones may only have 2G coverage (or Edge), my friend's Australian Xperia Z only gets 2G coverage. Hence, he only use the SIM for calls and texts…

That said, I had the same T-mobile SIM and plan when I was in US just a couple of weeks ago on my Xperia Z3 compact, the 3G speed was more than enough for a typical tourist, typically around 10 mbps max. I had no problem with coverage or reception. I would use it again.

    • This. The ones they sell you in the airport in Melbourne and Sydney are all T-Mobile as well.

We walked into an AT&T store the first day we were in Santa Barbara, paid $60 (taxes included) for a sim that gave us 2GB 4G data, 1GB 3G data and then shaped, although the guy said people rarely get shaped and indeed after we'd used 3GB, the data didn't get any slower, at least for the remaining 7 days we were there.

  • I used one in my recent trip to USA. Only useful in big cities. No reception in rural regions. Was inactivated after 29 days (not 30 days), not a big deal but annoying.

  • T Mobile has poorer coverage than AT&T. I travel quite a lot to the US and near my parents place in SC only AT&T works. If your only in the cities its probably fine but if your planning on travelling out on the roads outside cities keep that in mind.

    • I've used T-Mobile in the Breckenridge ski resort last three years with no problem, while its a busy place its hardly a city. Denver is >100 ks away. Will use again this year, I've already bought the SIM from these people… :-) .. !! Initially I tried AT&T but it was like dealing with Telstra circa 2000 .. :-( .. !!

      • They probably have a tower close by

(AT&T is like dealing with Telstra, i guess they can afford to act like that with the best coverage).

      • omg!!!!! i was at the snows in 2013 and had tmobile and the coverage was bloody awesome! i could search the web while i was in the gondola and thats pretty good!

plus i've used it in rurul areas and you might get 3G which is not bad. not like your always going to be surfing the net, we used it alot on google maps..

  • i know tethering is limited to 5GB. anyway i can bypass that?

  • When does it have to be activated by? Can I get this for a holiday in 6 months?

    • I've sent an email request to Travel Sims Direct through their contact us page, will post when I receive a response.

      • It will like the last deal:

When Does The SIM Card Have To Be Activated By?

We require your SIM card for this deal to be activated by the 31st of December 2015 i.e. You Should Be Entering The USA By Around This Time! For People Travelling After This Date Please Check Our Store Close To Your Travel Dates for More Great Deals.

        and also here

        • Got a response:
Thanks for contacting us. Absolutely, he definitely can take advantage of the promotion now and put the SIM away in his drawer for his travels later on in the year. It will still be valid. He can provide us with an estimated arrival date for now and email
us the specific arrival date once his itinary is finalised.

        • oh shucks i wanted to use this for 2016 hahahaha but i guess i should wait until end of the year and hopefully they will have another sale on :)

just need to put a reminder on my phone now lol

  • Hi, I have a similar question as above ^. I am travelling in October this year. Will this work ?

  • +1

I'm going to grab a T-mobile Nokia Lumia 635 from Walmart for $100 once I get there. This will give me full 4G LTE speeds with hotspot. I'll be back mid March. Maybe a fellow OzBargainer would like to buy it off me for their USA trip?

  • oh dammit i just bought this from them for 52$
    =/

  • Unlimited 4G LTE Data

Geez bloody great deal, this would be my landline AND Internet source if I lived in the US!

    • The 4G coverage isn't as good though compared to.. say Perth a small city with reasonable 4G coverage. so if you live in a particular area you might only get 3G

      • I do understand but its still great deal!

  • Just be aware, as already mentioned T-mobile frequencies may not be compatible with Australian mobiles.

As far a I can tell T-mobile uses-

    2G 850 and 1900 MHz
    3G 1700/2100 MHz and 1900 MHz

    The 3G 1700/2100 MHz is a upload/download i.e. you need both to get 3G.
Not many aussie phones support 3G 1900 MHz. You may end up on edge speeds.

Coverage maps do not show frequency data and you may not have coverage depending on where you are staying.

May be better off using AT&T. It's more compatible with Australian phones.
