  • What's the required viewing distance to be able to see the difference between UHD and FHD on a 40 inch screen?

    • ~ 1.6m

    • -2

I'd rather mature tech… instead of guinea-pigging a ton more pixels jammed-in, for UHD content that doesn't exist.

      • +2

I'd rather UHD for all the content coming out of my GoPro Hero4, and since its a Smart TV, all the 4k (and 2.7K) content on YouTube. Gamers might be interested in something like this since Gaming content has been produced in 2560x1600 for some years now. And you can even watch non-4K content (like regular TV) until some more comes along.
Wow I've just about talked myself into this deal - the power of OzBargain!

    time machine

Bargain of the century/ last century / future century.

  • I am guessing this doesn't run webos

    • +3

No webos unfortunately. But more of a PITA for me is this: "Another caveat is that you don’t actually get the regular ol’ candybar remote control any more, only the Magic Motion Voice remote."
I've got the old Magic Remote and that was banished to the draw years ago!
Gizmodo give it a good review here http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/12/lg-40ub800t-ultra-hd-tv-au…

      • Lucky I got a logictech harmony.
        Thanks for the link.

      • You can use your Android phone as the remote with the LG app.

Don't bother with remotes these days, can never find them.

      • It was already tempting at the price when reviewed by Giz!

Bought a tv with one before xmas. Blew my mind, in a head-meets-wall way. And it's for a holiday-rental house. Soooo stupid, that it's the only one supplied. I'd get a better experience using a mousetrap. Now I need to buy something standard! Factor-in that cost when buying.

  • How do you apply the GET5OFF code? The advertised price is $698, but I can't find where to use the code.

    • +2

Add to cart, click checkout and under where it says store pick up or delivery is promotional code, click it and a bar will open :)

  • Can you get the price in store or it must be purchased online?

    • think it's online only

    • Yes, they did that for me this afternoon. As they prepare the invoice they actually type into their computer that they are price matching the online price.

  • if this is a 100Hz TV - does that mean it is 3D capable?

    • no this model. there is a 3d button on the remote but when you press it is says function not on this model. thats all I ahve tried on mien though

  • +1

    Take that, Kogan!

  • Tempted to pick up the 40inch for a cheap Computer Monitor. My 55inch LG UHD Tv was $3k about 8 months ago. Spewing I didn't wait. Could have had a 70inch and a 40inch for about the same price.

    • Errr …. hate to say it but, got the LG 55LA9700 UHD and the TCL 40inch UHD, both 3D, mentioned above all up for $2061. Thanks OzBargain - I really didn't need the debt, but sitting here watching 4K YouTube is just stunning!!!!
BTW, the TCL's image quality was better both for freeview and 4K that the LG 40inch. Even the Good Guys staff said that the TCL was a better TV.

      • I wouldn't have settled for 55inch with the prices today. 40inch would simply be a PC Monitor, but my main TV would be 65+ with the prices in the past month. Only saving grace is my TV has HDMI 2.0, passive 3D, WebOS etc. and i havent missed out on any features buying it. simply had to watch prices plummet since I did.

Il be in for an upgrade at Christmas time I think. Prices continue to drop, and I can probably justify a new TV after 18 months.

        • 40 inch for the bedroom. 55 in the lounge. Catch with 65 and over is that freeview looks rubbish on the bigger tv as the signal is still very low res, often only SD quality. I have to have a tv that can do both reasonably well.
If anybody is thinking future upgrade, I'd be hanging off until LG lowers the price on their new curved screen. Even the picture quality of the freeview was very stunning. Its a whole new class above what we've been watching.

  • A 40" UHD desktop monitor would be incredible. Which video card would you recommend to run UHD at 60Hz?

    • GTX 970/980 will do the trick, however the trick with this TV is it doesn't have full chroma.

Apparently this makes the TV unable to display the full colour depth of the signal.

Your better off looking at the slightly more expensive models. Just make sure you check their input lag first!
