  • RACV members: Discount not applicable to 10% off sale items.

    • This is only for when they have the 10% store sale. Apply your RACV discount code at checkout.

      • Is there actually a code to use? I check briefly and got the impression displaying RACV card in store was the only way to receive the discount. I could be wrong and in fact would like to be.

        • Yes, you can either show your RACV membership card in-store or enter the discount code at checkout. Please ring RACV for the code.

        • @grababargain:
I have contacted RACV but they were NOT able to give me a code - they suggested contacting Ted's but I have not had much luck there either (Sunday I guess).
Any suggestions other than wait until tomorrow?

        • @jhills:
Please use RACV10. Thanks to 100001 post below. Sale price expires today.

        • Item is still available at sale price.

  • Good find, great tripod. I'd get if I didn't already have a decent one.

Partner mentioned only half an hour ago we need a new tripod. Check OB, problem solved.

    Thanks for he post!

  • Any reviews ?

  • Anyone know if I can use Sony a6000 on it? I'm newbie.

Tripods are pretty generic. Haven't looked at this one specifically but most have a plate that screws into your camera and a quick release clamp on the tripod head. This allows you to easily attach/detach your camera to the tripod.
If you have a threaded hole on the bottom of your camera it should fit the tripod.

      • Cheers

    • For sure it will work

  • My guess is all the cameras can be used on any tripod. They all come with one type of screw thing.

Any recommendations on a tripod that would fold even smaller so can be used when travelling (i.e. fitting into a backpack)?

    • +1

I got one of these last month. Wouldn't trust it with the claimed 15kg capacity but it's solid and does the job. 35cm folded.

Have a look at the MeFOTO DayTrip or BackPacker.

    • Thanks for the suggestions, will look into them.

A friend has lent me their tamrac zipshot for a few weeks but I have a feeling its just a little too flimsy for my liking and my Sony A6000

  • Saw this when their catalogue was launched but couldn't make sense as to why someone would want to buy this?? It's kinda heavy for a carbon fibre.. Rather get the manfrotto befree aluminum version for the same price and same weight as it packs much compact and holds an extra kilo and I would rather trust the manfrotto brand than velbon.

    • I was wondering the same. Not sure how many they sold for 400$+ price.

Some reasons other than Japanese (founded 1955) vs Italian (founded 1972). $199.95 vs $224.95. Both weighed 1.6kg. Carbon fiber vs aluminium. Max height 168cm vs 144cm. Minimum height 24cm vs 34cm. Hook for hanging weight or camera bag vs none. 8kg load vs 4kg load.

    • +3

You are comparing a travel vs a full size tripod. Try getting a full size aluminium tripod that is lighter than this.

      • The MeFOTO RoadTrip comes pretty close: 156.6cm max. height, 1.6kg weight, 8kg load capacity yet only 39cm folded length.

  • Any good deal on travel tripod?

  • How to get the Racv code?

  • +4

Tried my luck and entered RACV10 which it accepted. Price comes in at $179.95

    • Well done. Was trying a few combinations also but not the obvious ones! Thank you!

    • Awesome! I wonder if they'll raise eyebrows seeing a QLD pickup order using an RACV code.

  • Great deal. Was looking for a CF tripod for sometime. Bought one.

  • brought one also thanks. Also used "FREESHIP" to get free shipping for order over $150. feel free to add that in.

    • The coupons won't stack, so you will lose your 10% discount when using free ship. Not recommended.

  • I picked up mine from Elizabeth St. Melb store today. It didn't have a end hook with it. The guy attending me went to check other tripods but came back saying none had a hook attached to it. He gave me a separate hook instead (with which I am not happy at all). Will be taking this back tomorrow to get a refund.

    • Someone stole all the hooks?

    • Apart from the hook missing is it any good?
Why was the add on hook a deal breaker? Thanks in advance for letting me know.

      • It wasn't an add-on. It is part of the product that I am paying for. I didn't buy a second hand tripod from ebay. If I am paying for a brand new product, I deserve to receive the complete goods in a brand new condition.

It's just a matter of personal preference.

        • If you ignore the hook for a minute, is it a good tripod? Solid? Wobbly? $180 for carbon fiber with head seems a very good price.

        • @drb: The tripod is good otherwise. I didn't try it with a camera on but by itself, it seems quite sturdy. The head is also pretty good (for the price).
Btw at 1.6 KG it might prove to be a bit heavy if you intend to carry it around a lot.

  • Where's it made?

  • I ordered mine as pickup and paid $179.95. I was thinking of going in to pick it up this morning after I went to the post office to pick up a mystery parcel that was carded.

Turns out it was the tripod! Somehow they ended up mailing it to me. I didn't pay for postage. Bonus!

The tripod looks good. The head is entirely metal, including the tripod plate. Mine came with the hook and stone bag.

    Thanks OP!

    • Mine came with the hook as seen in the photo, stone bag, carry bag, operating manual, practical use of tripods booklet and allen key. I liked the warmers and graduated scale on the legs. Tripod is as sturdy as the demo one I played with at Teds.

    • Just grabbed one from Teds Northland tonight and it seems to be great. Thanks OP!
