  • good deal, but then you need to pay for it after that or try remove it…
I prefer avast, good free fast home protection.

LOL i got the trend micro anti virus add on this page, which says its better than this one…

    • I agree, Avast is pretty good. I personally prefer Nod32 but cannot find any free license.

Its true you need to uninstall after a year but if you use windows, don't you need to re-format every 6 months anyway?

      • i used to format about once a year, which seemed about the optimum time to keep them running well, but if your good and don't install crap on your machine (or removed non required applications), my machines are still fine after a few years and don't need a reformat. Specially PCs used for media PCs and the likes.

  • Great deal.. KIS has always been the industry best standard when it comes to anti virus and security.

I have been personally using KIS for couple years now. It actually helped me alot with Fraud attempt (phissing) as well as viruses. very fast too.

  • But we can't have the license key now - need to wait couple more hours, till Windows 7 get officially released (US time)
    Can't wait… :-(

  • DOH! I just bought a couple of one year keys off ebay a few weeks ago.

I wonder I can get a key and save it until mine runs out?

Kaspersky is better than NOD32 IMO…I used NOD32 for years before moving to Kaspersky. I found NOD32 was poor at removing malware/spyware.

  • anyone knows if the Parental Control in this can schedule blocks for ALL internet traffic?

also, does this follow Seattle time? since MS is based there

  • +1

No anti-virus is as good as making sure viruses don't reach your computer in the first place. It also doesn't use any CPU power either…

  • I dont use antivirus, havnt in last 3 years, never get viruses.

    waste imo

    • How do you know you don't have a virus/spyware? They are much more sophisticated than they used to be.

I use MS Security Essential. I have it install at work along side Norton and it has caught everything Norton pickup. My only worry is Windows Firewall lack the fine control of the other firewall softwares.

      • Easy. Don't run as administrator.
Almost all viruses assume you have administrator privileges on your machine. Spyware can't install itself into the OS, and viruses are effectively neutered.

I haven't installed a virus scanner for 10 years now. I've got one on a live CD for the occasional checkup (ala visiting your GP). Not one virus in 10 years.

    • you would never know if you had a virus/spyware/malware because you have never scanned

  • If you look at the source code it asks for your host email. I think we need a host email address.

"This offer is valid for attendees and hosts of Windows 7 house parties only."

Australian Eset online reseller site gouges compared to the global site IME.

  • M$ has an antivirus software out and it is free - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

    • Yes they do, and it's great! I think others will be facing some stiff competition. I've recommended it to a lot of people so far and everyone is really happy with it. 'Set and forget' type of AV.

  • Here's another Windows 7 launch virus scanner.

    Panda Internet Security 2010

*Please note this offer is only valid to U.S. residents only

I signed up. I don't know if they'll send me a registration code. Perhaps I'm a US resident on holiday in Australia.

  • it's 22nd pacific time.

why it's not available yet ?

  • we do need host email address (Please enter your party host's email address to receive your license.). Anyone have it ?

  • +2

Great deal. If you miss out you may want to consider the new MSE http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

I've been trying that and it's not bad either. I'm keen to see how MS's addition to the security game will fair against the more established brands.

  • We need to be a member of http://www.houseparty.com/ We then need to be invited to a Windows 7 Launch Party.

I doubt having a host email address will be be enough. We need to be accepted as a party guest.

Is anyone hosting one of these parties?

    • Weird that MS would allow Kaspersky access to the Launch Party DB given they have there own internet security product now.

      • I like the way you think. If Kaspersky can't validate host email addresses we should be able to use any email address as the host.

  • +3

Lol, im a host of this. :) Guess I'll be dispersing this on the day. :DDDDD

  • what' the host email ???

  • The site is up now for the free software but you need a valid host email address. Anyone?

  • Fail. Tried it with a personal email address:

"We're sorry, we don't seem to have your host's email address in our system. Please go back and try again." They must have done a deal with the MS devil.

Look liks it's a limited offer: "Exclusive offer for Windows 7 Launch Party Attendees & Hosts".

Saves me the download. I'll stick with my free alternatives.

  • is it possible someone can post a host email address so a few of us can benefit from this launch…thanks

  • Offer Rules, Restrictions & Information

Offer is valid only for attendees and hosts of Windows 7 launch parties.
Only 15 license codes are available for each launch party.
    Only 1 code per attendee.

  • Well that sucks, not a bargain at all.

  • not a bargain nor freebie to people here.

That's lame. I got out of bed because I remembered I forgot to get this download (and couldn't sleep). Booo Hissss :) They should've made that known on the first page that appeared. Instead they went for the free (BAD) publicity. I hate you Kaspersky :(

  • -1

    Kaspersky is being dirty.

  • +1

    misleading kas

  • +1

not applicable to 99.99% of people here :(

  • thats one way to get publicity

  • To be fair if you had clicked the link earlier you would have read this bellow:

"Kaspersky Internet Security Offer for Windows 7 Launch Parties

Thank you for visiting our special offer page for Windows 7 Launch Party attendees and hosts. Our offer will go live when Windows 7 is publically released on October 22nd. Please check back then to receive your license code for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010"

I think the original poster jumped the gun.

    • +1

      I agree.
I just went there and came back to spend more time reading all the posts before realising that mother superior jumped the gun…
