  • Rep, is this fumigated with chemicals by customs on importing?

    • It's not customs, it's the importers who ship their container with formaldehyde and other rediculous chemicals to kill bugs.

    • Hi, we have no idea about this as this is technical information that you would probably best ask the importing company directly at Power Super Foods

    Expiry?

    • At least 12 months or more for sure. Usually quite a bit longer but to be confirmed with the warehouse. Usually its like 2+ years.

  • Seems OK price… More info please rep :)

    • Hi, updated with links to more info from the manufacturer

I wonder if plain ol' cocoa is also organic and this is just a big price gouge?

    • Dis Cacao not Cocoa m8

      • Right so it's spelt differently, but is it actually a different product? It appears not. Sure there are adulterated cocoas used for baking and drinking chocolate, but cocoa is cocoa (or cacao). Apart from being 'officially' organic it's just to pronounce the second you first need a thin moustache painted on and Spanish accent.

The Cadburys Bournville Cocoa I have in the cupboard has cocoa and flavours listed as ingredients. Not sure what the flavours would be. A Google hinted at spices. Also found this interesting site about natural versus Dutch processed cocoa:

        http://joythebaker.com/2013/10/baking-101-natural-vs-dutch-p…

Mind you, at $6.16 for 250 grams normal cocoa isn't that cheap anyway.

        • +2

Cacao is a raw natural product, Cocoa is a processed form of Cacao

They have a different taste and nutritional profile

        • +1

It's also more complicated, because different countries use the 2 words differently.

  • what do you do with it?

    • You use it for making chocolate tasty things!

If I remember correctly, cocoa (i.e. chocolate powder) is cacao + sugar.

  • +1

Cocoa oil content, bean origin and confirmation that it really is 100% cocoa would be the sort of info I'd want before I buy.

Or is this just drive-by spam from a seller we will never see again?

    • Hi origin is Peru

Coles Cocoa is $11.10 per Kg. this "Raw Organic" would want to be good stuff for an extra $15.89 per Kg!!

    • +5

They are two completely different products. People prefer raw cacao powder for its health benefits. Cocoa powder on the other hand is a heavily processed, mass produced product.

Coles also stocks Super Raw Cacao which comes to around $86.70 per kilo:

      • Sure thing. As I said it would want to be good stuff.

      • What health benefits? It's very well known that Organic is a marketing term used to trick people into thinking something is healthier
        http://stirringchange.com/raw-cacao-hype-vs-science/

        • Whether you consider the benefits of 'Organic' or not that is a personal choice decision.

Our suggested logic here on this is that Cacao has a super high antioxidant content when it is consumed raw which is very different from having cocoa which is roasted. Now when you are consuming something raw, is it better not to know it doesn't have nasty pesticides still stuck to it?

Weetbix is way cheaper. Sure, it's a different product too, but the only real difference is they spell the name a bit differently!

  • A good price, but nothing exceptional

Std price is $28.95 here, free shipping on orders over $35 for sydney metro

  • I am under the impression this stuff is actually fairly good for you, WITHOUT all the damn sugar normally rammed into chocolate.
EDIT: while I'm at it, anyone put it in a vegie based smoothie or anything like that? What's the result? I'm a hardcore green smoothie / hard vegie, few fruits type - but if this is good in any way, I'll certainly try it.

No a fair comparison. You have to spend 25% more to get the free shipping to Sydney than what this offer is about. Plus you pay $2 more per product.

Aldi is selling 250g organic cacao powder for $4.99 this week.

  • Could you also do a deal on 1kg whole beans?

  • Op, do you have any other cheap deals on superfoods?
Goji berries, spirulina, maca powder, chia and hemp seeds, and the likes
    Cacao nibs too?

    • Hi,

      Thank you for your interest.

We are working on some deals for other products as well and will update as soon as we have something solid.

      Cheers.
