  • seems to fail on validating order for me. will try again later this arvo.

    • It failed for me when scanning the QR code. In the end we had to go into the store and they manually applied the $5 credit after getting us to try again in store.

      • +1

failed to check in store, staff refused to honor deal.
Then told me the $6.40 big mac offer with L fries was actually $9.85 and refused to offer the online price.

my waistline thanks you, but POOR effort.

        • That really is poor form. The store I went to honoured all of ours that wasn't working at the time. Though the staff looked to the store manager to give the nod before doing so.

  • +5

Saw a maccas sign while driving and remembered this deal so have it a try and use the app

Credit showed up under the offers area but when trying to do an order it just sat there with a spinning octagon.. Ended up driving straight past and not ordering anything..

App uninstalled…if you're going to run a promo to try and get more people to try the app, maybe make sure it's reliable first ;)

  • +5

anyone else having trouble just signing in to the app?

  • +1

Could someone please link a screenshot of the $5. Mine won't load since arriving to a store but the manager said they'll honour it if I can provide screenshot of the deal.

Edit: It was working until I walked into the store, go figure.

      • +2

Good on ya puffy. Will try and report back.

UPDATE: Management changed their mind. Their new position is they will only honour through the working app. Walked out.

      • Thanks puffy, was able to redeem through the screenshot

        • +1

          Great news :)

        • +1

          @puffy:

FWIW, I was driving past another store later that day. Went in and spoke to a lovely young manager who was happy to do it on the spot (put the $5 discount in manually) no hassles whatsoever. Didn't even want to see my phone.

However I was later sick during the night. Lesson learnt, don't eat Maccas, cheap, free or otherwise :)

  • +5

Stupid maccas app isn't working. Overloaded servers I reckon.

    • Since the manager of my store is satisfied with a screenshot, I'm sure others will be too. Screenshot guys… ;)

  • +2

Error messages that say cannot connect to server

  • +4

Mine also locked up 'validating order', told "we can not help, all day this has been happening ", Very poor !!!
A billion $$$ company and cannot get an app to work.

  • Servers went down when I went to check in. Store manager confirmed it was down and put the items through manually with a promo discount.

  • Damn I just gave in and paid for my meal in the end. I'm going to try again later tonight instead

  • Wow. This is one sh1t app. Worked this morning then go to maccas and app refused to work. Def not phone because internet and other apps all worked fine. If you guys are going down try to get screenshot because you cant rely on app

  • No go. What a crapp, eats data like no tomorrow. Servers went down too. Poor show, Maccas. We should complain on their FB page and downrate the crapp on Play Store, etc. Maybe they might extend the redemption period.

  • went to Maccas but can't sign in I think their server crap out of something, not sure store will hornor the deal so left. Worst app ever should have check the rating before install only 2 stars.

  • +1

Cannot sign in either - i'm hungry too…. grrr

  • +3

Like others have stated, app didn't work ($5 voucher glitched out) and the servers were not working in store.

Instead, management offered anything up to $5 for free as compensation. I picked the small Big Mac, which was actually $5.05 and also got the drink and chips too. She didn't care about it being over 0.05 over - so that was how I got a free meal.

TL:DR - Servers crashed and got a free Big Mac meal instead.

    • -1

you have to purchase $5.05 or over to use the $5 credit anyway. She wasn't doing you a favor only good thing was she hornored the deal.

      • She actually said up to (and including) $5, which was why she said 'it's only 5 cents over'.

  • They chose Straya Day to roll out McFail Day…I have a hunch Maccas may have to send out an apology email and extend the offer…Apart from my breakfast ordeal this morning, I wanted to drop by for a dirty snack and tried to order via the app - McFailed again…I guess someone at Head Office will need to do a "Please Explain" tmrw morning at work…this is a PR nightmare…

    • I doubt they'll care. The app is working as well as it always has (ie. not). The only difference from any other day is more people are learning the app doesn't work and promo codes can't be used while they are valid. I have never been able to place an order successfully, and the drive through queue got held up at peak time while staff tried to get it working. Someone had even stolen the QR code from the drive through so there was no way to even check in if the app had been working. Huge fail especially for today's deal, but the app has always been this way so not sure why they are promoting it. Incidentally, the log in issue isn't just the app - I can't log in via their web site either https://mcdonalds.com.au/mymaccas/login

  • Worked fine for me. Got a small big mac meal for 20 cents :)

  • -1

youse are putting so much time into a free big mac they dont even tast so great

  • Fail on mcDs part… Both fail on ipad and iphone. Giving up on both accounts.

Local mcDs refused to do anything about it. Refused to buy anything out of principle. I'm sure as hell not paying full price when I'm eligible for the promo.

  • Didn't work at my local, but girl who served me said don't worry and gave me a free Big Mac meal and didn't charge the extra 10c.

  • +9

Neg for the messy and clunky app and the pathetic server, overally wasting so much time and data (= money) of Ozbargainers. So much for a multibillion company.

PS: It has nothing to do with the OP.

  • This macca app is crap! Couldnt even log in for the past few hours. Went to vic market and mel central. They said they could not do anything.

    • -1

Wow …all that for a big mac? You must really like maccas. Or really need a free feed.

  • No way to sign in today.

  • Crap app and server

  • Able to sign in and place order at home on wifi. Go to store and scan qr code and order won't validate.
Checkout guy just saw coupon in app and gave me it but a pain in the ass

  • App failed and the manager at Melbourne Elizabeth st doesn't even know what's going on with the app (didnt even seem to know how to use it himself) and staff tried to charge me $9 for the Big Mac meal!! We simply walked out. No words to describe how disgusted I am with all the lost time, effort, data…

  • 6mb data use to fail to validate order three times. Not too bad but probably saved a bit by placing order at home.

Normally never go to Maccas but such a miserable day in Sydney had to get out somewhere.

  • +2

Mcthetic. Been trying for hours. If I manage to sign in, I can't validate the order. If I manage to validate the order I certainly can't get anything on the payment screen.

I've sent my feedback along with several screenshots to them asking for them to send the voucher to me for the inconvenience.

We'll see how that goes. A company as big as McDs needs to ensure that they can handle the load and if not why hasn't someone scrambled to resolve it immediately, public in holiday or not.

  • What crap. Crashes at various points/can't connect to server/
    etc.

    EPIC McFail.

  • +1

Mine hasn't loaded all day. I haven't actually had a problem with it before today, but it logged me out earlier today saying something about the servers. Hmph.

Edit: 'Sorry. The server connection is temporarily unavailable. Please check your internet connection and try again shortly'.

  • What a total POS that app is.

  • Managed to score a free big mac meal after showing them the app wasn't working. Didn't even worry about taking $5 off. Sounds like they know all about it.

    • +1

You are lucky. My local just told me that whilst they know about it. There is nothing they can do about it.

      • Same with mine. Refused to honour it. =/

  • +3

    https://mcdonalds.com.au/contact-us

    Let them feel your pain

    • Chance of apology coupons! I'm in. Slight chance anyway…

  • Offer appeared in the app this morning, but now can't login in. "The server connection is currently unavailable".

  • +1

What a piece of crap! Uninstalled!

It took nearly 110mb of storage, 34mb for the app and 70mb for crap load of data that don't do sh*t.

First ever deal on OZB actually cost me and nothing to show in return.

  • +6

Here is $5 but you can't sign in to use it

  • +12

Time for hungry jacks to fight back. Present your deletion of mymacca's when ordering and get $5 off.

  • Went back tonight to try and use it. Still no luck and an unhelpful store manager. Left without buying anything.

Don't forget to leave a 1 star review on Google Play or iTunes if it's failed for you.

  • i must say this app is really bad.
i presented to george st maccas sydney they had no idea how to use it or redeem it
    manager was called too

ended up not redeeming technically on app and just gave me free 6 pack nuggets $5.70 less the $5

    • Yeah, one of the managers (without naming) from that store is pretty cool, he gave me free food a few times for the slightest complaint. :)

  • Shit servers.

  • +5

My wife and I were finally able to log into the my macca's app around 10pm. We each placed our orders and went to Queanbeyan McDonalds and the Manger refused to honour the vouchers saying they didn't have the QR code, even though the Queanbeyan store showed up as a participating store in the app. Took a video of the store manager. Will be following up with McDonalds about false advertising.

  • +1

Tried at lunch time with no luck, couldn't sign in to even place my order.

Finally got it to work at about 10:00pm tonight, I paid via the app and just scanned the QR code at the door on arrival then it processed my credit card payment and gave me an order number to look out for. Pretty painless actually once you reached the payment step, and the staff were great, but what an absolute nightmare to get there!

App is clunky, slow and completely unreliable, which I must say is disappointing for a company like McDonald's. It is in serious need of a major update because although I see the value in it and like the idea of the discounts, at the moment all I want to do is delete the thing, it is just a pain.

Suffice to say, once the order went through and it asked for feedback, I left some pretty scathing feedback about the app. :)

Anyway, enjoyed my two sundaes for 90c. And consider leaving some feedback if you can!

  • Downloaded app and signed up yesterday which was an effort in itself. App kept crashing, downloading, downloading, crashing, searching for stores… sorry but there are no stores near you aside from the 3 that we don't know about.

Only 1 of the stores showed up when searched for manually then it said "Soz no 5 bux 4 u fatty".

  • No deal as app failed.
    Thanks anyway op

  • +1

Clearly didn't see the OzBargainers coming. Used my TapKing voucher at Domino's instead.

    • +2

Clearly didn't see the OzBargainersInternet coming

  • Order validated successfully at my local Maccas with the $5 discount, though a little slow…

  • +3

So the app started working just earlier (I assume because the load has died down) so I placed my order at home and had the QR code on the screen all ready to go in the drive in. The person tells me "the app isn't working, just tell me your order". "I can't I need the $5 off credit"… "I'll talk to my manager"…. Eventually she comes back and tells me to drive through to the next window. The manager takes my phone and tries to tap "I'm here" the app crashes. He then asks me what my order is and says "that'll be $5.25"…. "but I want my $5 off". "Is it REALLY $5 off?" "Yes" and then he does it begrudgingly.

  • Installed and signed up yesterday. Filled out details, accidentally hit option to read T&C switched to Chrome, switch back to Maccas app, switched back to Chrome automatically, close Chrome, Maccas reloads and have to fill in details again. App wouldn't sign me in when I tried earlier today near a maccas, then force close. Weather was turning bad so headed home. Didn't try again until just now. I guess I am one of the (almost) lucky ones. The $5 offer showed up but under the heading 'Expired Surprises' even though it is only 11pm here in QLD. Oh well. Better to just have pasta or something anyway.

  • +2

Sounds like a poorly coordinated marketing campaign. Head office pushed out a piece of crap, franchisees didn't know what's going on, customers got shafted, brand image damaged, someone please explain.

  • +3

I find it very hard to believe that a company the size of McDonalds would have server issues for the entire day (or at least from when this voucher became valid)… Because it was working perfectly well very early this morning before the $5 off voucher appeared in 'My Surprises'!
Edit: And it's downright f'n amazing that it should now be working fine… And of course it's marked as expired!!!

    • +3

Untested software, underestimating the demand. The app was partially functioning at best, clearly did not go through any sort of stress and volume testing. Typical outcome of engaging a one man marketing firm who out source the app development to the lowest bidder. Probably 2 persons tested the app before public release, the developer himself, and the director of the said marketing firm.

      • +2

Still find it 'fishy' that it was working fine last night when lots of people were downloading it, signing up for it and checking it out!

        • Well, downloads were from the app stores, signups happen at: https://mcdonalds.com.au/mymaccas, both activities do not stress the app.

Pushing "surprises" to the app (and subsequently retrieving) is probably where the problem is. I wouldn't be surprised the app communicates with a single host without any load balancing or fail over in place, probably not even on corporate IT infrastructure.

For all you know it's a quick win campaign with a budget of less than 100k, which means less than 20k went to the app development and testing.

Whatever the case, the exercise is clearly doing more harm than good. Check out the reviews in play store.

        • +1

I don't think they would deliberately disrupt the deal. The poor customer experience is most likely unintentional due to poorly written software and planning.

      • Director of Marketing: Gary, our app seems to be working but somehow the take up is a bit slow. What say we run an Oz day special to boost app installs and make the traffic go crazy?

Head of Development: (Gulp) Sure Bruce, I'll get my boy to crank up the rack server. It'll be a killing, for sure.

(HoD buys a ticket to South America and skips country before Oz day.)

  • +3

I'd had the app installed previously, and the buy 1 get 1 free large fries, $2.50 off and $5.00 off my orders worked fine, but all day on the 26th I was trying to log into the app and it just hung on the sign in. I tried several times throughout the day, and even tried around 11pm thinking it'd be nice to get $5 off a late night snack after watching the fireworks, but noooo… the app wouldn't load on ANY wi-fi or 3G/4G network.

I try it now and of course it works and has the coupon marked as expired.

I guess their app couldn't cope with the amount of people trying to access it yesterday. Not impressed.

    • +1

Me too. Couldn't sign in on Australia Day. It let me sign in today and I found the expired voucher. Great. And that is only after it downloaded a couple more updates and asked if I want to update even more. No thanks. Uninstall.

  • +4

Lol . What a fiasco. Glad i didnt bother with this…This is right up there with some of those dodgy ezibuy deals

    • Well yeah. This one didn't work, but previous offers worked fine. Perhaps that's due to them not being posted on OzBargain???

Maybe companies should test their apps and servers to withstand OzBargainers!

      • I don't think it has anything to do with the offer. I'd actually downloaded the app a week earlier, and it wasn't working then too (Android and IOS). I'd contacted their support regarding it.

So it was unworking crap before this offer appeared. In fact, prior to the weekend, I'd never even managed to get the local app to log in. So from my experience, the performance of it was better than when there was no offers on - but still rubbish…

        • Worked fine for me on all previous offers, and even now, sign in no probs.

It takes a few seconds to download resources, locations, and menu updates, but hey, i'm still using an old iPhone 4 on the Virgin 3G network and it still works.

I think there was definitely something screwy happening on Oz Day. I'm guessing the app or their servers couldn't cope with the demand of users accessing it.

    • I'm still waiting on my shirts from ezibuy since sept/Oct last year

  • +1

I've just received a $5 credit in the mail after putting in a complaint about the app not working.
