Costco Ringwood VIC (Membership Required) - Rekorderlig: Apple & Blackcurrant 15 X 500ml $29.97, Mixed Berry $39.97 Short BB

430

Yes it's Costco, hence membership is required.

Seen at Costco Ringwood at 1500 today. Around 50 cases of Rekorderlig Apple & Blackcurrant 15 x 500ml $29.97 BB 17 Feb 2015. There's a large pallet on the end of the alcohol section as well as a few in and amongst the longer dated ciders. Also Mixed Berry $39.97 BB 20 March 2015 with approximately 20 cases.

argh, why oh why doesn't Costco SA have liquor :(

Costco SA lost a court case. Local business were (surprise) against Costco receiving a liquor license.

It's very annoying. Apparently Dan Murphy's is free to sell wine in bulk (6 and 12 packs available, discounts for 6 or more bottles), but Costco cannot do the same.

The argument is, as far as I'm aware, that allowing Costco Adelaide to have a liquor license would be quote unquote bad for the community. It definitely has nothing to do with other businesses' bottom line, and isn't at all ironic that they are okay with making larger profits per sale on the 'catalyst' of the community's 'depravity'.

I did hear they were trying to appeal the case though. Anyone know if it has already gone through and failed, or is it still awaiting resolution?

Two local pubs and related liquor stores opposed the application, but that wasn't the main thrust of the matter. It centered around Costco being a membership club, and therefore creating a tenuous link between serving bulk amounts of booze to members only, somehow encouraging consumers to drink more.

Aldi is coming to Adelaide sometime in 2016 and I don't hold out much hope of them getting a liquor license either.

If the state government really was interested in limiting community harm they would abolish pokie machine licenses for pubs and clubs. A guaranteed anti social way to lose money. It's just hamsters hunched over a shiny bright screen pressing buttons waiting for a 90c reward for every $1 put in. Fascinating.

        • only used a slots machine once (and no other gambling game) and put $10 in and came out with $60

    • It's because of this

      37—Retail liquor merchant's licence
      (2) It is a condition of a retail liquor merchant's licence that the licensed premises
must be devoted entirely to the business conducted under the licence and
must be physically separate from premises used for other commercial
      purposes.
      Exceptions—
1 Goods may be sold in the same premises if they are of the kind normally
associated with, and incidental to, the sale of liquor (eg glasses, decanters,
      cheeses and pates).
2 The licensing authority may grant an exemption from the above condition if
satisfied that the demand for liquor in the relevant locality is insufficient to
justify the establishment of separate premises or there is some other
proper reason for granting the exemption.

      • I hope Aldi get around this when they open by opening separate Aldi liquor stores (so I can get an ongoing supply of their $30 cartons of their Stella and Hoegaarden imitation beers!)

  • Nice deal.
Dunno if it's worth driving to ringwood though…
I hope they build Costco at moorabbin DFO

I would've bought all 50 cases… but no alcohol in Costco for Queensland.

  • Does anyone know if they have this special in the Canberra store?

I bought two cases of the Wild Berry with a best before date of Jul 15. These had a better date than the ones I recently bought from Woolworths / BWS with a BB date of Mar 15.

When looking for the BB date I also noticed the Costco cartons are marked not for sale in Aus or NZ? The Alcohol content was also slightly higher at 4.9% compared to 4.5% for the BWS stock (1.8 std drinks per bottle, compared to 1.5).

Bonus! - but only if you are not driving.

  • Only till Feb 2015, how can you drink them so quick ?

Just bought a few boxes today, the deal is still running, with most of the bottles being apple+blackcurrant. (Luckily I found Mixed berries at the back of the pallet :D) Also, the bottles that expire this month, go for $29; whereas the bottles that expire mid-March are marked $39
