[MyNetFone] Free Inbound Calls from New Zealand ($19.95 Upfront + $5/Year)

51

This deal is probably mostly applicable to kiwis living in Australia, and it's a great way to encourage your friends and family to call you as they will be charged nothing.

After this deal, you will receive a New Zealand Direct Dial number, which your relatives can use to make a direct dial call to your Australian mobile or landline. Direct Dial numbers are available in these calling areas: Akaroa, Ashburton, Auckland, Christchurch, Darfield, Dunedin, Helensville, Hibiscus coast, Paraparaumu, Rangiora, and Wellington

This is a creative use of an existing deal.

There are multiple steps to unlock this deal:
* Sign up to the Whirlpool Saver plan (which is $19.95 upfront + $0/month) with a BYOD (you won't actually need a device).
* Once signed up, add a new DID number to your account ($5/year). Choose a DID number from one of the above locations.
* Configure Call Forwarding from your MyNetFone account to your Mobile Phone / Landline.
* Enjoy!

  • Wont the person ringing still incur the cost of a local call? Presuming of course they are in the local area of the DID

Nope, as they are making a local call (which are free in NZ).

  • Useless to me but pretty sick deal OP

Why should I pay for someone else to call me? That is ridiculous…

    • +1

I'd pay you to call me <3

    • Actually, I have a DID number in a country town for my parents to call me direct.

Save them buckets of money and easy to use.

      On a side note:

Even better, with MNF, you can register other (non MNF) phone numbers (eg parents again) that are able to use your VOIP account to get the cheap call 'whirlpool' rates. They just call a special local access number, they are prompted what number they want to call and off they go. They pay for the local call, I get charged for the rest.

Again, its saved them heaps. Could just use this method instead of the DID but I like making it easy as possible for the oldies to call me!

Maybe I am just being too ridiculously nice jv!

  • You will have to pay for the call forwarding from your MNF to your mobile. If you have a proper voip handset then yes I guess some people won't have realised what they can do.

Neg vote for the call forwarding charges. Probably about 10c per minute.

    • You can use a softphone app on your mobile to answer the incoming calls.

      • Yes I know, but the OP talks about forwarding to landline or mobile.

        • You are correct, OP should list the call-forwarding costs.

          On Whirlpool Saver plan:

Call forward to landline: 10c per call
Call forward to mobile: 15c/minute, with per-second billing
Send call to SIP client: 0c

I'd use the last option. If you have WiFi and have an old smartphone lying around, install a SIP client on that. If you don't have an old smartphone lying around, new ones start at about $40 (hint: you can use a network-locked phone, as you won't be using the "network" part. You don't even have to install a SIM, as you are only using WiFi).

  • Yeah no bro

I am using this service since 2009, so what's the deal?
