  • Any comments for this model?

    • There are plenty in this previous deal.

In short, you won't find a better bluetooth headphone for even twice the price.

    • +2

It's good for the price but I personally don't like the way it sounds. It's a bit "middy" and hollow-sounding. I don't find it comfortable either, and the build quality feels cheap. I quickly put mine back in the box ready to give to a less-picky friend as a present.

But it is cheap, so you can't expect amazingness. :)

      • is "middy" a bit like "muddy" though you only get your toes dirty?

        • +1

no, it's like the screams of anger you hear when you're swarmed by midges.

        • +1

@eug: well that's not an acceptable sound.

      • It sounds like yours might be fake? I've had a very different experience, even though I own a number of headphones costing many times the price.

What is a better sounding, better built, more comfortable and similarly featured wireless headphone you would recommend for the price? Hint: there isn't one.

By the way, what sort of a break in period did you have? I have found that the mids gradually became very smooth after a while. I actually think the mids are amazingly detailed and you'd need to pay a lot more to get better mids.

And I have to disagree about the build quality - I've had it fall from my head on a tiled floor with not even a scratch.

The comfort is more subjective but I also found the comfort top notch for me. On-ear headphones in general are not for everyone, but as far as on-ear headphones go, I found these super comfy.

I have a friend who's and audio engineer and wears these to the gym all the time (not that I would recommend them for the gym).

Got mine from COTD. It has the sony hologram sticker on the front too.

What is a better sounding, better built, more comfortable and similarly featured wireless headphone you would recommend for the price? Hint: there isn't one.

As I said, it's good for the price.

By the way, what sort of a break in period did you have?

None, as I thought the sound was so far from good that breaking in couldn't possibly fix that. The highs weren't crisp and the lows weren't punchy. Overall it sounded "held back".

But now I'll give it a second chance since you find yours so good.

And I have to disagree about the build quality - I've had it fall from my head on a tiled floor with not even a scratch.

It might not break, but it just feels cheap. For example, the rattling sound it makes when you wiggle it or move the earcups around. But as I said, it's a cheap pair of headphones so you can't expect fantastic build quality.

The comfort is more subjective but I also found the comfort top notch for me. On-ear headphones in general are not for everyone, but as far as on-ear headphones go, I found these super comfy.

I agree, on-ear headphones are not for everyone. Others may find it perfectly comfy, which is why I said I don't find them comfy.

I normally use IEMs but almost always use a pair of Bose QC15s for long flights. The lower clamping force, earpad softness, and over-ear design of those headphones make them much more comfortable for me. But as I said before, at this price point it's good.

I have a friend who's and audio engineer and wears these to the gym all the time (not that I would recommend them for the gym).

I work with audio myself so am reasonably picky with my audio devices. For sweaty use, I find the Jaybird Bluebuds X really good. Pricey of course, but if you're a bit picky over how it sounds, IMHO it's worth looking at.

        • @eug:

I'm a bit picky myself, that's why I have Sony MDR-1RBTMK2 for portability and Sennheiser RS 180 & RS 170 for movies / TV, among a few other pairs. Either of these cost many times the price of the DR-BTN200.

Therefore, saying that these Sonys don't sound as good as those high-end pairs would be pointless, as I only compare them with other bluetooth headphones you can get for under $100. In my opinion, in their price range these are excellent.

And this is not even taking the features into account. For example, I am not aware of another pair at this price point that has NFC.

        • @elektron:

Therefore, saying that these Sonys don't sound as good as those high-end pairs would be pointless,

But no one was comparing them to high-end headphones.
I just said they're good for the price, but I don't like how they sound.

They were being talked up quite a bit in previous deals, which is why I decided to try them. I was disappointed, so I figured I'd better describe them more objectively in case other people expect more from them too.

          e.g. from the previous deals:

          • I own these headphones and they are fantastic (paid $80 a half a year ago). In fact, they could be the most underrated bluetooth cans out there, especially with 40 hours on a single charge. At $49 they are an absolute steal.

          • I've actually just upgraded to Sony's top of the range MDR-1RBTMK2, arguably the best Bluetooth headphones on the market at the moment, but I am still convinced that there is nothing better than the DR-BTN200 under $150 in terms of the combination of sound, comfort and features.

          • For $50, this is a steal. Sound quality is seriously very decent. Its very solid.

          • Love these…smashing sound and a lot better than most lower end senshsrs.

          • Someone in the previous deal said that they feel like they are made of cheap plastic. I can't say the same about mine - it actually feels very solid.

The sound quality and build is about what I would pay $50 for. As I said they're good for their price, but aren't as amazing as they're touted to be. I would be quite disappointed if I paid $150 or $100 for it.

as I only compare them with other bluetooth headphones you can get for under $100.

So are you saying they don't actually sound that good, but given the price, they're fine?

And this is not even taking the features into account. For example, I am not aware of another pair at this price point that has NFC.

I love NFC pairing on everything, but realistically, it only saves you the hassle one time - when you first pair it with your phone. After that you'll never use NFC again unless you reset your phone or want to connect to a new phone.

        • @eug:

So are you saying they don't actually sound that good, but given the price, they're fine?

I think we are getting into a philosophical discussion now rather than talking about the specific pros and cons of these headphones.

In my view, what one can reasonably expect to "sound good" for $50 will not be the same as what will "sound good" for $350.

If you are picky and are used to the Bose QF15, and it is your idea of what sounds good, did you reasonably expect the DR-BTN200 to also "sound good" at one sevenths of the price?

If you did, then it's no wonder you were disappointed. If you didn't, then I wonder why you were.

It's a lot like buying a Porsche Boxter and then criticising it for not being as fast as a 911.

My comments about it being better than anything within the $150 range were made a while ago (I've had them for over a year). Bluetooth headphones have come down in price since then with more models to choose from, but I still maintain than these are hard to beat for up to $100.

        • @elektron:

My point is that based on how talked-up these headphones were in previous comments, I was expecting these to sound pretty decent, like something $150+.

My Bluebuds X were about $150 (~1.3 years ago) and I am quite satisfied with them for what they are, so I was expecting them to be somewhere in the region, sound-wise. Making tiny Bluetooth buds that sound good is more difficult than larger headphones with lots of room too.

But when I got them, they sounded like ~$50 headphones.

That is why I said they're good for the price. They don't sound good, but they sound good for $50 headphones. Hence my original statement - "It's good for the price but I personally don't like the way it sounds."

          And that's it.

I never said I expected them to sound like $350 headphones. But they were being talked up like they were comparable to $150 headphones. IMHO they're what you should expect from $50 (or maybe ~$80) headphones.

If you are picky and are used to the Bose QF15,

FWIW, I don't like the sound of the QC15. But the noise-cancelling is great. The QC25 is much improved though.

    • +1

Bought these last time they were advertised here from CameraSky. Took 2 weeks to come through. The headphones built does feel very cheap and the sound quality isnt very good as well. They weren't very loud either, I had to edit all my songs in itunes to make them play at 200% volume in order for them to perform the same as other normal headphones. They are on-ear so they dont cancel noise very well but that was was to be expected. Other than that all other features perform perfectly well in regards to connecting to devices. As far as being only $50 its a good pick up but the fact that they sell them for $200 in store is absolutely ridiculous. $60 is the maximum i would pay for these. Dont get too hyped for them.

  • Got one. Thanks!

  • Tempting, but I always worry over a smaller seller with no paypal :(

    • +1

Seller is solid, I got mine 2 weeks after payment.

Been using it daily at Gym. Bought from the same seller with no hass

  • does anyone know if there exists a bluetooth dongle or something similar to enable you to connect it to a home theatre system via Aux/toslink cable?

    • First link I found:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bluetooth-3-5mm-A2DP-Stereo-Audio…

I'm sure there are better options out there, but what you're after does exist.

I have in the past (maybe 10 years ago) used the reverse; my computer would transmit bluetooth audio to a receiver, which I then split the 3.5 into RCA. That had lag and so I returned the item.

      • Cheers for the reply!

Yeah I'd be worried about the lag also.

Oh well, I'll keep it in mind next time they have these headphones in stock :)

    • Avantree Saturn
      No Lag,Lossless

You cant find better than this

  • Out of stock :(

  • all gone, i guess you snooze you lose.

    • Thanks Unity1!!

    • Thanks unity1, just ordered 2 with delivery for $112.

  • Battery size is 145mAh and it gets 30 hours playback?

I just don't see how that's possible to deliver decent sound, not saying it can't, but it would be against all norms for power consumption regardless of bluetooth version.

Has anyone here got both these and the Meelectronics AF-62s and can provide a comparison?

  • So being almost a month since this deal, has anyone actually received their product yet?
Took them almost two weeks to ship mine out from Singapore and is still in transit apparently according to the tracking number I have.

  • I got mine very quickly, in less than a week from memory.( maybe a couple of days?)

Edit: Sorry but I just realised that I ordered mine from the place that Unity1 posted ( www.jw.com.au )
