Technically imported modem won't have the approval stickers.

Technically imported modem won't have the approval stickers.

Nor will it have the correct Power Supply for Australia - USA is 110v.

      • DO you know from experience? The item is also shipped from UK not USA.

link provided by op goes to third party amazon seller…

link to unit shipped from amazon itself: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-C7-Wireless-Gigabit/dp/…

  • Does giga bit internet mean NBN?
What about power adapter? guess i need a travel adopter for that?

    • +4

That just means the local LAN side of it is Gigabit.

It can be used in WAN mode though which means can use on NBN (but you won't be using the modem part of it in that case)

As for power, they generally have universal 100-240V adaptors these days, so would probably only need a pin adaptor but can't say for sure. Looks like it's a 12VDC 2.5A power supply, so could just replace with an Aussie one also.

  • Got this one from centrecom on last boxing day. Redeemed USB wifi and got it last week. It's great modem, can act as dlna server as well. Dual channels to split the bandwidth and support guests network. Signal range is good. I live in a small 3br unit, and can cover whole rooms and garage.

In the MSY sale right now for $149

Any chance it might be a pricing error or hijacked amazon seller account? Unless I'm mistaken it's about $100 cheaper than other amazon sellers. This seller usually charges $285 for it according to camelx3

    • the normal AUD price is $169 so I cant see the normal price in US $285. you sure its the D7 and not say D9?

      • +1

Did you check camelcamelcamel like I said?
        http://camelcamelcamel.com/TP-Link-AC1750-Wireless-Gigabit-A…

        • I'm putting my money on pricing error considering this seller is usually super expensive and they're undercutting every US seller by $100. I can't explain why this router is so much more expensive in the US compared to here but that is the case (check other Amazon sellers, Newegg, etc). This seller is supposedly located in the UK but even the cheapest on Amazon UK is £89 (approx $AUD170).

        • I ordered one yesterday and sent the vendor an e-mail. I got a very quick response in relation to my order so all seem legit.

        • I dont think thats correct as it also says Amazon doesnt sell them (not true). I am guessing that a search for that very specific text only brings that up (that one store and when they dont have stock they massively increase the price so they dont have to delete the listing - you also see Myre etc doing it, eg a kettle for $40000).
if i camel search for tp-link d7 (instead of the long TP-Link AC1750 Wireless Router Dual band Gigabit ADSL2+ modem, ARCHER_D7 (Dual band Gigabit ADSL2+ modem) (B00MXT5HGI) ) to get all results and i get the amazon results that average around $170 - yes , more expensive than Australia amazing enough.

  • I have confirmed that their power adapters are rated at 110V - 250V. So it will work here.

    • hard wired cable though so you need to use a crappy travel adaptor.

Not sure if legit.. there is another link for this product on Amazon

    http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-D7-Wireless-1300Mbps/dp…

    Seller has <50 reviews/ratings

    • How many Amazon retailers arent legit?

  • What's the risk factor of buying from this seller? I've only bought stuff shipped by amazon directly in the past.

  • Damnn, if this is legit then it's a very good deal!

  • So convenient! My D7 literally just got fried in Perth's electrical storm and I need to replace it. thanks op

It seems every week someone in Oz has it for around $140 (MSY etc) would rather get local with the correct power connector.

    • more like 150$.. if you want to save 35% on normal retail in Aus why not have a dabble. Otherwise just go local.

      • +1

Not when it is illegal (not electrical safety, Austel & wireless frequency approved). Also hard or shipping cost to claim warranty.

        • meh

      • Got mine for $135 from Wireless1 back in November, with free delivery. And, they are a supported rep for the bonus adapter. So, the deals do come around. And with the wireless adapter, it drops the price further, plus local warranty, I think is a BIG consideration.

  • Are we Asia shipping rate or Outside Asia?

    • Seems to be Asia

      • thanks.

Would this be good enough to use just as a router for gaming whilst someone else is facebooking on their iPad? It would probably save my relationship if it is… can't stand getting lag and then looking back and seeing my gf on her iPad on the couch. FML.

PS: I have Telstra cable and speedtest results are 19Mb/s wired and 11Mb/s wifi (old modem/router) so technically it shouldn't be this bad.

    • Are you cable or adsl? you would be better getting a standalone router if you are using cable (routers have a WAN port to bridge with the current modem, - although should mention this would work as this modem includes a WAN port too) because the modem connection in this is only for adsl (rj12 telephone line looking socket) traditional cable looks like the coaxial round end.

With cable, generally telstra will put you on elite or ultimate plans (25mbs or 100mbs down speed respectively), sounds like you may be on the elite plan.. be sure to check, as they will do the dirty and tell you have ultimate speeds, although a quick speed test will prove otherwise. They tried to do this with my household lol

If it's a Cable connection ask to have a technician to come check your line/pit outside. If you check 'connection' in your router specs (default address 192.168.0.1) you may be able to have a quick diagnose yourself.

      Downstream (Rx) Receive Power Level:
This is the amount of signal received by the modem from the transmitter in the cable company head-end.

      For all modems:
-15 dBmV to +15 dBmV maximum.
-12 dBmV to +12 dBmV recommended.

0 dBmV is the "optimal" level.

Upstream (Tx) Transmit Power (a.k.a. Return Signal) level:
This is the amount of signal transmitted by the modem to reach the receiver in the cable company head-end.

+8 dBmV to +58 dBmV maximum for QPSK. (DOCSIS 1.x)
+8 dBmV to +55 dBmV maximum for 8 QAM and 16 QAM. (DOCSIS 1.x)
+8 dBmV to +54 dBmV maximum for 32 QAM and 64 QAM. (A-TDMA DOCSIS 2.0)
+8 dBmV to +53 dBmV maximum for S-CDMA DOCSIS 2.0 modulation rates.

Recommended upstream signal levels are +35 dBmV to +52 dBmV.

dual band router will help you.
I set 5Ghz band youtube streaming and 2.8Ghz for Chromecast streaming. I can still browsing without lag on my PC as well

    • this is a router and adsl modem, silly to buy if you have Cable (you have to have a cable modem.) They have new Max cable modems now (AC wireless etc) or have the wireless turned off in the vable modem and buy a dedicated wireless router (C7, c8, C9)

    Just ordered one. Fingers crossed!

I ordered one too, lets see what happens.

Just chatted with the Amazon Rep to confirm it's legit, here is the response :

"I've checked it and I can confirm you that this seller has good positive responses and also we have no negative info related to this seller in amazon records. You can buy the item, do not worry we do have A-Z guarantee claim against the seller for customer security"

    • Thank mate.. good to know.

  • Deal over, back to USD$289

    • Bugger, although $US289 + $US35 for postage is a rediculous price, probably to subsidies the above special price!

  • +1

Update on this, they tried to send me some wireless adaptors (I'm assuming this was the actual item at the price) but they have refunded my order now.

  • Holy shit. I really can't believe they are selling, or more to the point, people are buying this device for $289! Plus shipping even!! I…don't know what else to say, so i'm going to throw a few more !!! around so you know just how wowed I am!
