Found a great deal on a usb card reader as my old one from JB HiFi packed it in. Card reader was $2.79 delivered but with 65% off its $0.99 cents delivered if you set the site to $AU. If you prefer however you can switch the currency on site & pay in USD via 28 degrees or similar it converts to US $0.69 to AU $0.87.

At checkout on my mobile it gave option for PayPal and extra options to pay for shipping and insurance. I elected for free shipping and no insurance.

Price is AUD. I feel it's a good bargain and it has 5 star rating after 1408 reviews (although not too sure how "true" they all are)

Wow that's ugly. And those reviews are obviously padded.

Still, if it actually works it's a good deal.

Plus for the effort put into in the description.

    • Xbone conters can't be used wirelessly with a PC yet though…

      "… ordered 2 for $1.69"

You got ripped natZ; Tasman got that deal for $1.68

      • Yep! I don't know how? I lost 0.01c:(

Why are so many readers being made these days still limited to USB2? So damn slow!

    • +1

deleted. made comment about data on SIMs, this is not a SIM reader :)

      • Um yep you do. It's for mini and micro SDHC. 32GB is common.

    • Because the chipsets etc are almost free and scabby cheap arses like to pay the lowest cost irrespective of performance.

    • Well for a start my pc doesn't have usb3. Also, some usb3 devices don't play well with usb2 ports, so most manufacturers would like the low cost, fewer support issues and ubiquity of usb2.

      • Mate I've had trouble with both USB 2 and 3. But 3 doesn't require me to wait days to copy a several TB drive or an hour for a 32 GB SD Card.

Default shipping insurance is more than the cost of the order!

    • A bit tricky how they automatically include the insurance after the paypal screen

        untick

  • Thanks OP, ordered 2 for $1.69

  • Thanks OP

  • Weird, the price comes up for me as $0.59 USD each? Cheaper than expected then?

EDIT: Comes out at $1.49 AUD for 2 via 28 Degrees

You can buy a cheap and nasty 99c card reader and hope that when you stick your memory cards in wont screw up the card or the data on them or you can buy a nice usb3 card for less than $10 like this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Transcend-Card-Reader-F5-Black-Mu…

    • These transcends are good.

I never use my USB 2.0 readers any longer, they are slow and shitty.

Personally I prefer an internal card reader in my computer, but they are more expensive than an external.

    • +1

I very much doubt that a cheap card will screw up the data….

      • I agree, I have a cheap and nasty one, been using it for 4 years, never had an issue. It's just slow.

      • +1

Assuming you mean a cheap card reader Sevs, I agree. I suppose a really crap card might be prone to failure (i.e. data loss), but while a cheap-ass card reader may itself fail/stop working, it is highly unlikely to actually corrupt the data on whatever it was reading.

    • I would prefer this too.

    • So guys, dumb question, but does read/write speed depend on the actual reader?

For example, if I put a class 4 microsd card in a USB3 adapter, it'd read/write data from the memory card faster than if I had used a USB2 adapter?

I thought the class rating on the memory card is the actual bottleneck…

      • you need a high speed microsd card in high speed usb3.0 card reader, forget about class they are all slow. and soon you'd be looking for usb4.
you can search their speed in wikipedia or google, slowest is the bottleneck also your pc configuration. care about mb/s and mB/s

  • Did they really find these on the moon or was it a hoax?

  • Can't argue that at $0.99… even if it is but ugly. Thanks OP.

  • thanks op, found some other adaptors too I needed.

  • bought 2
    thank you OP.

  • Paid $1.58 AUD for 2. Thanks OP.

  • You only need one or 2 very tiny (USB3.0, soon USB4.0) MicroSD reader, if you need anything else you are in the wrong direction of your life, come back!

They have sent it already - "We are pleased to inform you that one or more of your items has shipped."

  • Ordered 2 - $1.69. Thanks OP

You just wanted a 69 in the price didn't you, you sly devil you lol

  • I am also on the look for a card reader but with usb 3. But for this price, I guess can't beat the deal.

  • Thanks OP. Couldn't resist and ordered 1, since I needed an SD card reader for my PC.

  • sold out

Very fishy practice: Out of stock but instead of refunding they put it in credit and ask you to "request" for refund!
    Blacklisted.

  • Just got an email from them saying they just shipped mine.

  • Ozbargained

  • Mine arrived today :)

    • Still waiting on mine.

      • Wow! That's a long time :(. I'd suggest emailing them and finding out whats going on.

        • Yeah I just contacted them.

        • @Yuun Yii: good luck

        • +1

          @HADOUKEN:

I contacted them and they offered a credit refund if I kept the order and to wait 10 more days. They also offered to resend it.

But never mind, I ended up receiving it in the mail today!
