  • Is this a good deal?

Someone said the graphic is horrible, and the laptop is very slow.

    Any real experience?

    • +1

It's not great. Not well balanced either.

The CPU indicates it's for CAD work but the RAM, screen and drive don't. Those three are bare-minimum level for a modern notebook.

Onboard graphics aren't terrible for gaming but they are minimal. You wouldn't buy this as a gaming notebook.

So you're paying extra for a CPU you probably won't use fully and the promise of better reliability because it's a business build Thinkpad. Which, personally, I don't think is worth much if it doesn't come with a longer than normal warranty. How much more reliable is it going to be if the manufacturer isn't going to stand behind it more than they would their other lines?

Oh, and Pro OS. So you can log into a domain if you want to.

      • Really appreciate your opinion, so which brand and model is more valuable?

we looking into small and light size, under 800.

        regards

        • Two very similar deals recently
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180713 (14" = lighter)
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180105 (entry-level graphics card + 8GB RAM)

Both of them run i5 4210U processors, which are only a tad slower than the i7 in this deal… honestly not by much. Anything that says Intel® HD Graphics or Integrated graphics means it has NO dedicated graphics card. You wouldn't be able to run a modern game except at the lowest setting and at the lowest resolution (and then it will still lag).

You should consider getting a 13.3" if you will be travelling with it a lot. 15 inch laptops are too heavy and bulky to commute with.

I've not been in the market for a small laptop so I'm not well read on the latest,

        • If you're after raw speed for office usage then something like this would be worth stretching the budget to $949 for: http://www.itstation.com.au/home/1355-toshiba-satellite-e55-…

It also has an impressive screen resolution, which is nice.

But for standard office work the Lenovo B5070 for $525-$540 or the Toshiba C50 (Officeworks version, not Officeworks version for $549 would be no different than the PC in the OP for the average user. The CPU is weaker but it matches the rest of the system so there'd be no bottleneck for normal usage.

If you're willing to go with the AS NEW options at the Dell Outlet store then the Inspiron 15 3000 for $499 is good.

  • Just reading about this.. if you chuck an SSD in it, it will be pretty powerful machine for the price. Perfect for the office.. not so much for gaming
