Hi all, I've been looking for a gaming laptop recently and I'm pretty sure this is the best bang for buck brand new gaming laptop you're going to get for around this price. The total price includes fully insured shipping as well. I'm trying to find out if we have to pay import taxes or not, so if anyone can help me with that, it would be greatly appreciated.

Eurocom are running an Australia Loves Everyone promotion, so us Aussies get a 10% discount from this company, which is great :) just put the coupon code into the custom configuration information box.

This model is customisable but the base cost does contain the GTX 970M, which is powerful enough to run most modern games on high setting. It's cheaper than what you can obtain over here from local stores.

Over $1000 AUD. need to pay customs duty.

    • Is it 10% of the total price?

      • Including the shipping.

      • You have to add duty fees on top of the price you pays the GST on the total of that, so it's more like 15-16% more in top of the price you already pay - http://www.customs.gov.au/faq/DutyGST.asp

Edit - actually from reading on another site, laptops and other electronics don't have duty fees applied apparently?

        • what other site? Source please- I'm about to order

      • 10% off before shipping.

  • wrong price after adding gtx 980

    • Yep, add another $295.00 for the GTX980 over the 970.

You gotta also add a few more $ preferably for some more Ram (only comes with 8GB) as well as a SSD hard drive (default is a 500gb Hitachi)

All in all - might be better with the Horize deal from Logical Blue from a few days back especially when you gotta pay customs duty on top.

  • For such a high spec laptop don't you want a 17" screen?

    • Weight: M5 Pro (15.6") 2.6kg / 5.72lbs
      M7 Pro (17.3") 3.2kg / 7.04lbs w/ battery

ehhh i'll take the 15" because i'd want to take it places

  • No metal bottom cover on the GTX 980M model. Only on the 970M model. Only adds 3mm of thickness or so.

  • I am considering ordering.

I ordered a laptop from the USA last year (for $1200) from HIDEvolution. I didn't have to pay duty- so I presume he just wrote on the customs form that it was worth less than $1000?

    Has anyone ordered?

  • Anyone end up buying this? Wondering if you got your laptops yet and if everything was good.

    • Mine is being built as we speak. Incredibly powerful laptop for the price if you're willing to forfeit local warranty.

      I took the gamble.

      • I ended up with Alienware 15 inch with 970m and i7 for $1800. Had a 16% coupon and with the base model if you change the graphics card to 970m first then change the processor to i7 it ends up being cheaper than if you pick the higher model with the same stats. Found the trick in whirlpool; super stoked.

PS: Dell took my Amex card which gives me extended warranty and a few reward points. The same stats with metabox was going around $19xx for me.
