  • Would this give a much better picture compared to iPhone 5? Sorry for ignorance, I really have no idea when it comes to cameras

    • No (to your question). These camera are idea for kids and for fun situation. The quality of the picture depends on the sensor of the camera. Looks for camera reviews for more info. Also megapixel is about how much you can zoom in and not the clarity of the image.

I think megapixels have a fair bit to do with clarity….

14/16mp on these vs 8mp on the iphone… Chances are the image is going to be of greater clarity, though low quality pickups can affect this. So the answer is a definite maybe. Optical zoom is where they really win.

          @bazzaa:
Hmmm. In my experience megapixel is only loosely correlated to image quality in super cheap cameras.
The lenses tend to be garbage, making the image less sharp, and the image processing hardware/software tends to be garbage, leading to grainy images with poor colour accuracy.

I would greatly, greatly prefer my 6mp DSLR over any 14mp compact for these reasons.
I think you will find the iphone optics/processing is pretty good too.
I'd love to be proved wrong, because it is a great price.

        • @mskeggs: Image quality is (mostly) affected by three things…
          - lens quality
          - number of megapixels
          - pickup pixel density (and pickup quality)

The first and last are why most DSLRs will win out over cheaper cameras (and phones) with higher megapixel counts. You make a reasonable point, however we're not discussing DSLRs. When comparing apples to apples, megapixels have a very strong correlation to picture quality.

As the cheaper of these achieves 16mp through interpolation I wouldn't expect it to be better than an iphone, I also wouldn't expect it to be worse, as iphone cameras are vastly overrated. How they handle low light conditions would be the telling factor (pickup density). On the other hand, the 14mp one with an optical zoom will very likely take a better photo than an iphone. Both are somewhat cheaper than an iphone as well… :-D

Oh and they have the $10 one at Nerang, but neither of the other two. I grabbed one for kayaking, if it goes to the bottom, meh.

all of these have stock for my post code 2145

  • the $10 16MP Compact Digital —-

Takes photos at a resolution of 16 MP by interpolation and has an 8 MP CMOS sensor.

  • I think the $3.75 Canon deal (16MP, 5X) last month at Kmart was much better;-)

    • Yes but limited stocks?

      • And these won't be limited stock in many stores?

There were up to 9 Canon per store at several stores I visited last month - 2 weeks after that deal posted (price fell again), along with the great $39 WiFi 12X Samsungs, & $59 underwater or 32X Fuji Film etc - all 16MP, all better than these.

One person bragged they bought 13 Canon at one store near end of deal & stock was reported over 1 month after deal was posted - it was that limited stock ;-)

There's probably a few Canon left out there, but eligibility for Cashback purchase is over. ($25 camera - $20 Cashback - 5% PayWave discount = $3.75)

I've put my Canons with my $9 Dell printer collection, in my shrine to OzBargains ;-)

Hi brucefromaustralia, I am Bruce from Australia too :D
Have you received the Cashback from canon? I am still waiting for $20 to appear in my account (they sent me the claim approval email a couple of weeks ago)

        • @brucebruce:
          G'day Bruce.
Been too busy. I haven't got around to lodging claim yet - doing it today.

  • Might as well add the $39 action cam to the list:
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/1080p-full-hd…

We got a similar one for the 9yro for xmas.
Picture and sound are pretty average (much worse than an iphone, for example) but he loves being able to film his bike stunts etc.

  • did anyone receive these? I ordered click and collect and never heard anything
